Just as they did last year SCEA is planning a series of articles on the Playstation Blog that will detail different aspects of MLB 09 The Show. The first posting has just gone up and it focuses on the improvements and additions made to franchise mode. You can read it in full along with some screenshots here.

When we set out this year’s plan, one of our goals was to blow out the personnel aspects of the Franchise experience. Starting with the beginning of spring training, the rosters you will carry into spring will be those of their real-life counterpart, the long awaited 40-man rosters. Now you will have to manage your Spring Training roster a little more carefully to ensure your young players get the looks they need.

WOW!!! Sounds great, sound like thy makin the changes needed to elevate the franchise….oh yeah 1st

Why can't this game be for 360? Its killing me that it isn't!

Sony makes it exlusivley for the PS3, and 2k owns third party rights. That is why EA no longer mkaes MVP (which was the best). Everyone complains about madden, look at what 2k would do to football if they were the only ones making it.

This is what I am talking about. SCEA gets it. They are shoving information in our face while 2K does little.

Loving all the added franchise features! As a roster and player editor this is a dream come true in 2009. One potential problem I see is that with all the waiver, draft, Type A & B free agents, etc. this could cause a real problem for those who like to play with accurate rosters all season long. I'm still super excited and sure there will be work arounds.

    Dear Pasta

Excuse me is it true that I need $399.99 + $59.99 to play this.
I just bought a Xbox 360 and Madden
    How can they do this
They should release to Xbox 360 like they said above
I know there is MLB 2k9 but the Show has higher consistent ratings

    • Tim

They do it because it is a first party game made by Sony as an exclusive for Play station. Even if they wanted to, which they don't, by virtue of the rights that 2k has with MLB they could not release a game across platforms.

Somebody please explain to me why Sony can't make an NFL game but yet they can make a MLB game?

    • Tim

The NFL license is an "EXCLUSIVE" License. There can be no first or third party NFL games other than EA. 2K bought a "3rd party" Exclusive license, which means that they are the only ones that can make a baseball game across platforms. Individual Consoles can make a game though as a first party publisher. So Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft can all produce games for their consoles.

        Thanks for explaining!

I like how they are proud of themselves for adding things that were in the All-Star Baseball game from 6 years ago.

in MLB the show's franchises can you change the length of the season? cuz in 2K baseball you can. if you could for the show that would make it the #1 game of all-time

hmm will there actually be real minor league players or more jon dowds????

    • Tim

They will be fictitious unless they have had an at bat or inning played at the MLB level. Until that point they are not in the MLBPA and SCEA does not have the legal right to use there name or likeness.

      • patrick oak

        damn that sucks!!!

I'm a baseball fanatic but i can't figure out what the 40 man roster is?

    • Scrooge Jones

The 40 man roster designates who is signed to a major leauge contract and who is signed to a minor league one. Each team is allowed 25 players (untill Sept. roster expansion), but allowed to sign up to 40. There are leagal restrictions and certain stipulations on how these 40 palyers can be sent to the minors/called up and placed on assignment. It is confusing.
