Fans of the games get frustrated being ignored (2K). It doesnt take much to engage with them. Letting people know what is good or new about the game is big to me. Like with Front Office Manager I dont know how they can expect me to pay blindly for it.

Most important thing is to be fair to the people who follow your games. Showing screenshots or videos doesn't cost money and can make people feel better about what they are thinking about purchasing. Prevent people from knowing about the game or seeing it for themselves and they will be skeptical.

I'm not sure what the best way to show off a game in the pre-release cycle would be. However, I think that people would want to see videos, screenshots, and detailed release information about important features that will be offered in the game.
