As posted last week roster update #18 for Madden 09 is the final one of the year. That means injured players come off the IR. But EA has also put a lot of effort into providing an extensive update that better represents the performances of the players this season. Hopefully this is a sign of how the updates will be produced next year as the vast majority of the community (88% according to the poll) wanted to see more of a slant towards current performance than was being offered.

Unfortunately there is no detailed list of the changes that were made this time around. Feel free to post anything you notice in the comments along with your thoughts on how good of an update it turned out to be. A few of the names checked on so far are Joe Flacco going up to an 84, Chad Johnson dropping to 92, Kurt Warner raised to 95, LaDainian Tomlinson down to a 95, and Michael Turner up to 95. Its also nice to see John Carlson get some credit after having such a great year and never receiving a boost as he goes from 79 to now being an 89.

What did Brandon Jacobs do to get his speed decreased?
They tried to make up for it by giving him 97 stiff arm, but this guy deserves at least 92-3 overall.

    Great updates.

Mathis LE for the Colts 97, wow. Knew bob was gonna get downgraded.

Pretty good updates for the most part. Chris Johnson and Keith River updates were mindboggling.

Well Cowyboys took some hits and not undeserved. I'm a little upset about the panthers. Delohme went down to an 84. Yes he had a horrible game vs Arizona but he played consistently well during the rest of the year. He just had a bad game/choked. Good look on upding DeAngelo Williams and Steve Smith. Oh well overall both my teams had there little ups and downs but I am satisfied. Good Job EA. Thanks for listening the us.

      Choice is a 81.
Romo is now a 92. Nothing changed on his THA or THP.
      Crayton is now a 77.
Williams (WR) is now a 84.
Flozell is a 91. Drps in Pass protection.
      D-Ware is now a 99!!!
Scandrick dropped 1 point and I don't know why!
Bradie James dropped 1 point and he had a pro bowl year.
      Zach thomas dropped two points.

Kevin Curtis loses 5? That’s a joke. Way did he do to deserve that? In the playoffs he was great. Made every catch thrown his way. The only one I can remember him droppin was. The one vs cards where p I wasn’t given. Everything else on the eagles was fine. I would have liked to see sheldon brown go up. he’s an elite corner in the league. Gave upthe least receptions in the league and only 1 td!! Which came in the championship game

As a Titans fan, I am pretty pleased with this update.

Kerry Collins finally gets a long deserved update and gets boosted to 86 with a cannon arm weapon, though I think he really deserved some more awareness.
Center Kevin Mawaii went from 91 to 95.
Albert Haynesworth is now up to 99 from 98.
Cornerback Cortland Finnegan is now a 94, and both our Super Safety, Chris Hope, and our Free safety, Michael Griffen, also got raised to 94.
Reciever Justin Gage is now 83.
Fullback Ahmad Hall went up to 86.
Jake Scott gained 1 point to become 94.
And running back Chris Johnson is now rated 89 and Lendall White 85.

I think Chris Johnson, Justin Gage Kerry Collins each should have gotten an extra point or two more after the amazing years they had, but overall I'm pretty happy with what EA did to the Titans, although I think our Tightends should have gotten some attention.

EA just sucks monster cock. we need to hope and pray that 2012, 2k can get back the license, and put out some REAL football games. EA is fucking biased and retarded.
they should have a 'team watcher', one guy designated to watch EACH team in the NFL for EVERY game, and that person give updates every 4 weeks. they're fucking too retarded to do this, they'd rather watch ESPN and go by sportscenter highlights.

EA shafted the eagles offense!!!!!!!!!!!!! how th fuck can i beat the cowboys now with a weaponless LT(who now cant block d-ware when he used to be able to) no reciever that can get open since they fucked kevin curtis witch i find extremely weird. mcnabb got no luv at all. and i appreciate the boost to bunkley and all but i used to terrorize LG and C now that hes bullrushing his power move is less effective WTF ea. this is a serious problem tho. ive experimented with: shawn rogers, tommie harris, dockett, kris jenkins ect. teams that have 1 power move d-linemen and those guys dont shed thier blocks at all!!!! that seems to be a glitch in the game. but teams with more than 1 power move d-linemen those guys actually shed blocks i.e. vikings and titans

    • Mr. EA Sports

You make a couple of good points. They shouldn't penalize a player for being hurt or not playing. If they want to downgrade him form being hurt just knock down his injury rating (that's what it's there for). Curtis played well when he was on the field, although his hands are suspect with the game on the line, he should not have taken a 5 point drop. One thing they did get right and I think everyone will agree is the RB's. I think they nailed that one position very well

Everyone that is complaining is an idiot and a complete moron homer. Take off your bias glasses dudes.

This ratings were pretty good on the large part.

Maybe you guys should watch a game other than your home teams and realize that not everybody sees the same thing as you do.

Different people have different opinions. Just because your team didn't get +5 for every starter doesn't mean EA is stupid.

ALL I WANTED WAS DREW BRESS TO BE A SMART QB. EVERTHING ELSE IS GOOD

  • Mr. EA Sports

It's pretty obvious as to how EA rerated everyone. They looked at two things: the regular season stats and who dominated in the playoffs. That is why Warner and Fitz got massive upgrades and Big Ben and Nagata didn't. I think they did a good job in some areas but they gave many who didn't deserve it a downgrade. Curtis should not have dropped 5 points, Nagata should not have dropped at all, Tra Thomas probably had his best year and gave up few sacks this year he should not have taken a drop. R. Williams may not have had the best year but to take a 10 point drop is rdiculous. It is nice to see they did get 1 thing right with D. Ware being a 99 I do hope they tweek it again and give him a 100 and make Romo a 97-99 then the game would be almost as accurate as seen on the tape.

  • Seahawk a.k.a. Halal

I just sort of find it unfair to shaft 3-4 OVR points because the players were injured a huge chunk of the year (Hasselbeck, Tatupu, Kerney).
