Throughout the recent MLB 09 The Show Community Preview Event we were given the opportunity to take screenshots using the PS3’s slick built-in feature which made it really convenient. From that I grabbed 23 screens that SCEA has been generous enough to forward back to me. Most of them were based on requests that people had made via Twitter. Today I’ll put up the first eight of those which you can check out by continuing on or in larger form in the screenshot gallery.

    pnc park looks amazing

why does everyone in the show look like big poppa pump?
  • Sorry I don't know the answer to that. But yeah they came out great quality.
  • Steve Crawford
Hey Pasta, I know you've been asked this before, but I don't remember a reply, considering the high definition of the images you took, they look better than 720p quality... does that mean it might be 1080p?
  • Well I didn't really analyze fatigue but it felt pretty good in terms of how deep my pitchers were going and when I needed to bring in relievers. I think it would probably take more time to figure out if pitch count and fatigue matched up properly. Confidence level at the time is also a factor to consider.
  • Mark Roo
This could be the best baseball game ever, and they are scary close to having for all intents and purposes, a perfect baseball game. If they ever fix those players builds..
  • Schneider
Pasta, how was the pitch count in relationship to fatigue? Last year I noticed that a starting pitcher would have almost no fatigue after 70 pitches or so, and would completely lose control after 80 pitches...thanks for all the great work pasta, we all appreciate it.
  • Ryan
During night games were all the players wearing long sleeves like last year or did they keep the same gear that they would have for a day game. Cause all long sleeves for all players during all night games drove me nuts!

Can't wait man!!!!!!!!!! best baseball game ever??
  • Ben
Just one question Pasta Padre...are the Mets all white home unis in the game?
  • I'm not sure. Pared at OS is the guy to ask since hes a Mets fan I'm sure he knows. SCEA can only go with whats in the style guide provide by MLB though and I think some of the things aren't correct in that.
  • the chipper pic is just amazing. thats probably the best screenshot iv ever seen from any video game. at the same time, a-rod looks too fat. a lot of the players thighs are too big. overall, they look good.
  • Frank C
No, nobody looks "Fat". They all just look like body builders.
  • the chipper pic is just amazing. thats probably the best screenshot iv ever seen from any video game.

360 is where the hardcore sports gamers meet...even tho I prefer the PS3, you can't deny what the XBL does for gaming.
  • t daley
Regy, your not answering my question. I would like to know specifically what the difference is between the game. Your answer tells me nothing. If i want to play madden online, i don't need an xbox live interface to do it. I go into the game lobby and all the peeps are there. Same for any sports game. If i want to play with my friends, no problem there either. PS3 handles friends just fine so you need to come back at me with something relavant. Your statement is rediculous.

JOSH: MLB 2k is a broken product where as MLB is a poslished product. Both MLB and 2k attempt to represent the game of baseball in the same exact fashion where as both live and 2k basketball are polished products but they represent the game of b-ball in slightly different ways. I have played both and I prefer the faster paced live over the slower sim based 2k. Like i said josh................personal perspective. Now the record is straight :P
  • Josh
Yea I guess you're right..I mean if you like limited animations, robotic movements, zombie looking player models, & arcady gameplay then I can see why you prefer Live over 2K.
  • Regy
    oh snap!
  • tyler
hey pasta did the mets have there all white jerseys and did johan santanas pitching windup look like
  • Jan B
Gotta love MLB the show player models, even the umpire is jacked
  • Seemed to me like a reasonable amount. I definitely didn't get the sense that there were too many. Guess it would depend on how many you think there should be.
  • T. Daley
Pasta: that has always been one of those things that people comment about that kind of peeves me. People claim that there are too many foul balls but in a game that rest upon precision timing, who is to say what is too much. If you consistantly swing too early or too late on a pitch then you can expect to hit foul balls. It has nothing to do with the mechanics of the game. I am sure the game is programmed in such a way that foul balls are generated in relation to your execution of swinging the bat. Now if you completely nut the ball on a fast ball down the pipe and it goes foul, then you have an argument, which by the way never has happened in this game. So bottom line: Swing with better timing and the foul balls will take care of itself.
  • Nolan
First of all I am talking about the amount of balls that batters foul off when I am pitching which seemed to be a bit high last year. Second of all if we are talking about timing, then id rather have my batter miss the ball entirely than foul it off when I make a bad swing.
  • t daley
OK nolan, but you didn't make that clear. But look on the bright side. I'd rather they be fouling them off then hitting em out of the park like in 2k8,2k7.
  • Nolan
are there still a ridiculous amount of foul balls in the game?
  • t. daley
Well pasta, i would have to dismiss the larger base of players as a valid argument for the online experince. Whether it be 1000 or 100000 there are more than enough players to play any game on either console online. As far as the cross chat between games. As nice as that may be, i really don't see the value in that. I don't want to be yacking away at a friend while i am in the middle of playing a game. If i want to talk to them i will do it outsid the game when i can pay attention to what they are saying. PS3 recently added via firmware update the ability to chat with people without having to leave the game which was a much needed feature, but I think that is all that is needed. You opening comment about a more "consistent" experience leaves me with questions. What do you mean by that? I know you have both consoles pasta so please feel free to elaborate. I am just not seeing anything relavant here when it comes to online experience differences
  • Overall I'd say its a more consistent experience, especially when you factor in things like cross-game chatting via parties. But also that there is a larger base of players on the 360. Those are things to consider anyway. If The Show plays well online this year all that would be largely forgotten regardless.

  • Regy
yeah I thought that one really stood out too...
  • t. daley
Carl, seriously, what is so frigging fantastic about 360's online experience vs PS3. I really want to know. Now with HOME up and running, what is it that PS3 doesn't have that is so necessary. I think 360 owners make something out of nothing when it comes to this. I don't know about you, but i bought a console to play games and to play games online. As far as i see it, i can do everything on my ps3 that you can do on your 360. I think its time to put that argument to bed. Both consoles offer complete and fulfilling online experiences.
  • bob
Did you get a pic of CC? and is his hat tilted to the side?
  • Sean
The game looks great! I had an Xbox 360 up until Christmas, when I decided i need to switch over... which I did , for the most part, because of all the great reviews on MLB 08 The Show. I was not disappointed.
I'm strictly a sports game shopper and Madden has always been my most played game. Now, I find myself playing The Show more than anything else. 2k has nothing on this!
  • carl
coolwh!p 2k gets the preview pictures to look fantastic, but when the game comes out the graphics suck. i do not know what u r talking about. i have a 360 so i noe 2ks graphics suck. These are pictures from the real game. I guarantee u that 2Ks graphics suck and it disappoints me. I will not waste so much money buying a ps3 just for the show cus ps3s online is nowhere near 360s i do not care bout paying money either
  • Matt
Citi Field. Looks like that might be outdated pretty soon if the name changes.
  • wow chipper jones
  • Jamin
I'm jealous! I have to admit that i have a 360 and bought mlb 2k8 just to have a baseball game but seeing these pics i am wordless if only 2k did this good of a job on all their games instead of a half baked job i would be thrilled but i don't get the choice of choosing which game i want
  • adam
    the bats look cool
  • Off topic, but Pasta...those 1/4 pounders on your site aren't sim at all. they look nothing like the real thing.
