MLB 09 The Show Demo Video

While the screenshot feature being included in the demo is fantastic I know a lot of people were hoping to see some actual demo footage. I started recording a play-through with plans to post up the whole thing. However the first inning had some dramatic moments and lasted 13 minutes so that should be more than enough to watch in one sitting.

I prefer to play with the ball cursor and strike zone off and pitch from the pitcher cam. It comes across pretty well in the video how natural the game looks with those settings. Continue on to watch the full first inning video.

Wow, three HR's in the first inning? I'd like to see a little more small ball.

I like the overall animation, but a couple of gripes: Home plate umpires always stay "inside" meaning in the slot between the catcher and the hitter. Second, the ump threw a ball out to the pitcher after a BB. Just because it was a wild pitch, the ball is still in play and that event should not take place.

Oh well, I guess it still isn't real enough for me…

Thanks for posting the video, Pasta. The game looks great. Even with the lower feed quality, you can see the nice lighting effects. I'm not crazy about the player models in this game. That and the commentary seems out of place, especially with the color guy. Too many homeruns to me, but that could be difficulty.

I don't see what people are saying about the framerate. It looks smooth to me.

I have played several games, winning only once. I have given up three HR's while hitting zero during my time. No gripes with that. I haven't seen the HR-fiesta reported. However, I have struck out an average of five per game, some looking which is great to see.

I also like the fact that with the change of camera views during an AI stolen base attempt, you actually have a chance to throw someone out this year. Can't wait until its release….

I saw a second 2K9 trailer on 2K's web site. It features the Red Sox. This video looks no where near as good as the first trailer featuring Lincecum. Josh Beckett is pitching and his face looks no where near as detailed as Lincecums.

My level of excitement for 2K9 dropped about 35%….

There's a lot there that 2K doesn't have. In particular the lighting. That's something you'll notice while playing. The thing about Beckett though, why are you so concerned about how detailed his face is? Especially when 90% of the game isn't zoomed in like the trailer is.

Also, at some point, people need to celebrate the good from both. 2K has done some nice atmosphere things with fans reaching for homeruns, different "natural" camera angles and a really nice pitching scheme.

I think more worse than exclusives being bought by these large companies is the inability for the gamers to appreciate the efforts from different developers. It's as if many take things so personal they want to see the other side fail just to reinforce their choice.

Believe it or not, I totally agree with you. I have read too many forums and blogs where people complain about little things, such as a team's socks being the wrong color, etc.

My point was that the initial trailer looked really good with the second looking like 2K8. Not that it is a terrible thing but 2K has done very little with the MLB license. I am hoping that 2K bounces back in a big way however with the minimal information, videos and screenshots, I am not optimistic.

Sony has shoved information in gamers' faces trying to sell an already fantastic franchise whereas 2K should be doing things to win back the confidence of the consumer which, in my opinion, 2K isn't.

I was more concerned with the drop off of the level of detail between the two videos….Cover boy gets the overall detail treatment while the rest of the game doesn't.

So has any1 figured out how to pinch hit or use the bullpen in the demo? The cpu does. I know it is a demo but I can't even shift my defense around when needed…I can't wait for March to come now! What a tease!!!! Enjoying this more than the Killzone demo right now.

However, the gameplay in The Show is far more advanced, not to mention the framerate and extra features. Not dogging 2K but the race isn't close….

WHAT???!!!?!?!?!?!? Have you seen the pics of actual gameplay for 2k??? Check the dev diary of 2k; pasta has a link to it. The pics from gameplay look like they are from the PS2!!! LOL!!!! If you prefer one type of pitching over another, I won't bash that, but you know just as well as anyone that 2k graphics don't touch the show.

I switch the running controls to classic. When a player is running you will see a symbol matching the buttons in the small window in the right hand corner.

If you want to advance a guy from first to second, say he hit a sure double, press up on the D-pad and hit the button that matches the icon as he is running to first base.

    Basically, the layout is this:

Runner running to first is the O button
Runner moving to second but past first base becomes the triange and so on…

OR, you can advance all runners by hitting L1 and retreat by hitting R1…

I am a fan of 2K but I have no idea what you are basing your opinion on. 2K has released zero gameplay videos (other than the two trailers). I also defend the pitching mechanic in The Show over 2K's mess of a system. Yes, it is simplistic but so is throwing a baseball.

Sony's pitching mechanic is designed for all gamers with this year's made more challenging for the experienced players….I would rather have a system I can control versus one in which if I am slightly off I end up throwing a meatball…..

I used to be a fan of the MLB 2K series but had to go out and buy a PS3 last year when MLB The Show 08 came out. After playing both games, MLB The Show blows the MLB 2K series out of the water. It's not even close. And with the MLB The Show 09 demo showing how awesome this year's game will be, I don't see how the MLB 2K series has a chance at competing. The only thing the 2K series has going for them is that MLB The Show is limited to the PS3, so they'll still sell a bunch of copies to those who only have a 360 and/or a Wii.

Damn seahawks, do you need some extra paper towels?

The video looks amazing, MLB THE SHOW is reigning champ, the gameplay is phenomenal, the game modes are second to none. hands down. 10/10 game.

but why are you all acting like 2k9 is going to be Ken Griffey Baseball for the SNES all over again?!? yes, we know 2k has struggled in the Next Gen Era, but this year they look to be headed in the right direction – you all KNOW this, which is why you are putting in overtime to try to bash the living hell out of it.

here is the kicker – all of you are going to play MLB 2k9!!! either by rental or purchase – so obviously it doesn't look THAT bad…

man honestly this game doesn't look much different than "The Show 2005" on my PS2, other than upgraded graphics for the PS3 and real umpires. Lighting is cool and such but you guys are acting like they made huge changes to the game. To me this series is like MAdden, they found out a long time ago what people liked and havent switched it much since then. I'm not complaining by any means, but people are doind so much tip-riding about this game i was expecting a lot more.

exactly, the game is a port. it's a very GOOD port, but basically an upgrade from the ps2 version with new bells and whistles…

and I'm still baffled as to how in 2009, this game gets a pass for their player models having those little short baby t-rex like arms…
