Waiver Wire: NBA Live Developer Interview

I was unable to take part in the latest Waiver Wire podcast but it is a good one as it features three developers from NBA Live 09/10 as they look back on this year and discuss some of what they are working towards for the next iteration. Mike Wang, Ryan Santos and Sean O’Brien join host Chase Becotte who is kind enough to represent me by mentioning my gripe with the name NBA Live 10. Also of interest out of the interview is that it appears they will be keeping the same structure for Live 365 in that it will be free with the purchase of the game. Originally they were considering charging for it outright as 09 was presented as a “sponsored” year.

I Just played Ncaa basketball 2009 and I nearly cried the game is soo horrible and its based on the same engine as nba live! I'm sure if it had live dna 365 pasta would rank it ahead of 2k9!!
For the love of basketball can 2ksports please resume!!! college basketball!!! There are still fans out there who love college basketball please!!!

I don't really see the big deal with EA going with 10 for their titles...how is 09 any different?
  • Dan O
Live 10? Sounds like some lame benefit concert
  • Lee
Mike Wang? Theres a reason why this series has gone in the trash
  • answer23
your kidding me right this guy was the lead gameplay designer for 2k7 to 2k8 I guess he doesn't know what hes doing cause does games where trash right.
  • theanswer23
but yet the AI is terrible, if live 365 and 2k animations mixed up damm that would be great.

Check out that screenshot. Paul Pierce taking a leaning left-handed jumper from the right baseline? I think that's really all I needed to see. I haven't even touched Live since the 08 demo made me puke.
  • theanswer23
?? ok its charge animation its not even a jumper
  • Josh
Haha! I just noticed that! Man Live really needs to get their act together! They still can't even get little things like that right? WTF?
  • Josh
EA would be a lot better off not pumping up Live this year. They should just do what 2K does & let the game speak for itself! They really need to deliver this year! No more BS Gimics!
  • Mark
Live has never looked like real basketball...2K's signature animations and presentation are top-notch. And yeah, 2K outsells EA's Live series every year...
  • kwas676
OK will you virgins stop the 2k vrs live crap I personally think there best feature is the play calling the best i ve seen since inside drive.
  • thekid
but yet 2k has slow jumps how the hell those ray Allen have the fastest release in the nba but in 2k it can easily be blocked? and the none foootplanting is getting annoying, and the spacing is horrible, how come 2k keeps everything behind doors and never talks to the public like that.
  • Mark
It's pretty pathetic when they say the best feature of the game is the DNA...it's pointless if gameplay and animations look horrible....there really is nothing positive to say about the NBA Live series...ball physics are terrible, net animations are terrible, player animations are terrible....good luck with NBA 10
  • Josh
Couldn't of said it better myself!
  • aaron
good listen its interesting to hear from them on their focus and what they know needs improvement. live 10 may end up being great
