  • Now just a week away from the Fight Night Round 4 Community Event. Make sure to drop anything you’re interested about here.
  • Seems like most everyone was disappointed with the NBA All-Star Saturday. The dunk contest has become way to gimmicky but I was happy to see Nate Robinson win it. If Lebron follows through and does it next year, and they can get someone else like Kobe involved, maybe the magic can return.

    Pasta,
I fell that this year will definetly be an improvement for MLB 2k9.

We always talk about what we don't like in games (I could make a whole list just from the 10 vids that have been released), but what specifically do you think are the game's strengths from watching the videos?

Its tough to say off the videos, I think the overall experience is going to be better obviously. I'm noticing things like the CPU swinging at everything and a lack of hit variety. I also don't care for the big pitching circle and flash of light. But I do dig the new real-time presentation and the flow that comes with that, and the commentary is much better. They seem to have the most authentic signature animations also. Before I make any real judgments though I want to play the game because that is how I'll really be able to tell what feels right and what doesn't. So hopefully we'll get a demo before release this year.

i've personally felt the dunk contest was one of those things that was set up for eventual failure..

i mean, there's only set number of amazing dunks that are possible..

after having it for said many of years, dunks that ooh and ahh us that we've never seen just become fewer and further between

Yo Pasta reading the Nba Live10 Interview with espn it sounds like nba live 09 sucked it up once again as usual! But yet you rated the game over 2k9!!! Whats even more funny is that E.A. Sports hired one of the developers of Nba 2k. Here is suggestion to Mr Wang on how to make the game better. Quit! lol

Well first I didn't rate either game, however I did get more enjoyment out of Live. I don't think that should be surprising since I especially value online play. 2K9 was certainly a good game, but it was only half a game. Live is far from perfect but I had fun with it and it delivered on its promised features.

From the sounds of Live 10, I am glad EA appears to be steering away from the gimmicky new features. I honestly believe no one wants a new gimmick. People want a game that plays well.

I played NBA Live 95 (the Genesis version) on ConsoleClassix.com and that game is still fun as ever. Even the graphics don't look terrible. The view of the court was excellent and the game was, and is, still downright fun….I hope Live 10 gets back to that….

you are right pasta. but the interview basically said the game sucked and had only one good feature and that is the dna 365 but how can you really get any fun out of that before it gets old. I am terribly not happy about how the cpu plays in 2k. They are even worse than when they use to jump for pump fakes all the time!!! I dont play much online all i use online for i to take regular roster updates and im sure alot of people do the same out there also. I do think since 2k has been the best they have sat on there hands and have not improved on the gameplay like they should be doing. I hope Live 10 can actually compete with 2k next year

All I can say about that EA Live 10 article is you don't hear 2k people having to do those types of interviews do you??

I will admit they really fucked up the online this year but for the past week it seems they finally fixed the servers and loading into the online menus, doing challenges, etc. Is lightning quick and is a much more enjoyable experience.

I'll tell you I have purchased 2k basketball games since their inception on the Dreamcast and I still love them and don't see a need to switch to live yet.

NBA 2k is just a port from the Ps2 days, eventually it won't have anything new to offer in terms of gameplay except more and more animations, Live actually ha the technology in place to create a great game..Mike Wang was the main thing that made 2k what it is today, and he'll definately improve live.

"When you boot up the Game, it's goin to look and sound like a whole new game" – Ryan Santos

now thats a bold statement and i expect live to be a wayyyy better game than it has been in the past, and the DNA will bring it to another level, this will be a good game..2k will always be good but i think live will eventually surpass it in the next year or two

2k versus the Cpu is not fun, u HAVE to adjust the sliders just to make it a realistic game, or the CPU will light u up for 60 wit Andre Miller, in live theres no need to adjust sliders. You can play a game and know that thhe players are gonna play with the tendencies they have in real life, actually shoot mid range jumpers and not just execute off 1 lil mistake that u make everytime like 2k does.

Playing 2k against people is more fn than vs the CPU, the CPU just gets bull

Basketball is a Popular sport and we deserve some bang for our buck when we go out and purchase games for 60 something dollars or so.

The Mike Wang interview was pretty good. He basically addressed the issues most gamers didn't like about NBA Live, while at the same time being committed to maturing some of the innovations over the years. The whole Live vs. 2K debate will go back and forth, it's subjective, but the point I want to make is that 2 years ago this debate wouldn't have existed.

Wang tried to bash 2K, it's expected, but if you say that Live needs to build on a foundation, then you're taking a page out of 2K's book. Ultimately it's what the gamers enjoy, and 2K has a solid fan base.

I did however prefer Live over 2K this year, I'm actually still playing it. I do wish though they'll do something about the player rotation. I love how you can edit the rotation on 2K.

As for the Dunk Contest. It was Dwight Howard's contest to lose. He should have gone with a higher Rim, 12 feet was too easy, especially when he's 7 footer and competing against Nate Robinson at 5'9".

They do need more stars in the Dunk Contest. All Star Weekend should be about the All-Stars.
For example, I'd love to see a 3 point contest consisting of:
    Ray Allen
    Dirk
    Kobe
    Lewis
    Granger
    Joe Johnson
    Paul Pierce

    HORSE: 1 Rookie, 1 Veteran, 1 Legend

    Dunk Contest:
    Lebron
    Howard
Cater (Should have been an All-Star)
Kobe (his ability to float is awesome)
    Wade
    Amare

The problem here is that the prize money doesn't mean as much as it used to. Put a $1 million prize for the dunk contest winner. Make it worth their while to get their pride hurt.

Thanks for the NBA Live 10 interview, I think I read that a few times in the previous years… Excuses about the previous title, promises and hype about the coming one…

But now maybe something really shall change as a 2k9 brain has been hired, but that SEAN guy really looks a brainless one…

Solid foot planting, Dynamic DNA, NBA Live Rewind, 5 on 5 Online Team Play, Hot Spots. By no means am I even saying that these features have been a hit, but there have been innovative ideas in my opinion that need more time and maturing and Mike Wong hit the nail on the head that you just can't come out with something new every year without maturing a process. That's the direction that Live '10 appears to be in.

Seeing the state of 2K Sports, I don't think they'd have the salary space to lure someone from EA, especially with all the down sizing 2K has been doing with the losses they've experienced with their other franchises.

This isn't about fanboyism "nbafan" this is about the way forward, for both franchises. 2008 was a good year, I'm hoping for even better results next year.

I agree. In past years they've really tip toed around some of the gripes most have with NBA Live in general, so this article was refreshing. The shocking part was Live actually taking a jab at 2K, that's something completely new and I don't think they'd say that unless they were completely confident they had something good in development. Even 2K didn't take a jab at Live until after E3 last year….this will be interesting. If anything 2K will probably take notice and step their game up as well. Quality competition will only satisfy both bases.

Also they keep comming out with something new every year cause they are sucking it up in sales . There is no maturing process. You stick with the good business model you have that is keeping you atop or you keep changing it up to catch the competiton like like EA is doing. Or you go and hire the top competitors other guy like EA have done also. You dont hear Sony hiring someone from 2k sports for baseball.
