Improvements to QBs in Madden 10

Another posting on the Inside EA Blog details improvements that are being made for Madden 2010 to the QB position. Of note are five new ratings categories, layered blending, and changes to how accuracy is determined. This is a significant update and you can read it in full here.

1. Deep Ball Accuracy: Determines the accuracy on deep passes (streaks, deep posts, etc)
2. Medium Passing Accuracy: Determines the accuracy on medium passes (outs, corners, etc)
3. Short Passing Accuracy: Determines the accuracy on short passes (quick smash, flats, etc)
4. Throw on the Run: Creates a modifier to accuracy when the QB is throwing on the run. Every QB will take some sort of accuracy hit when throwing on the run, but a QB that has a high rating here will take a smaller hit.
5. Play Action: Determines the ‘effectiveness’ of Play Action for a QB, i.e. how often they can fake out or freeze the defense (which is obviously weighted against the defenders Play Recognition ratings)

I’m hoping along with the Play Action rating that they can work out the different speeds that QBs execute play actions. One thing that has frustrated me is how deliberate the animations are. However when you look at a QB like Peyton Manning it is quick and crisp. Each QB has their own tendencies or signature style even to that extent. There is little that I find more frustrating than getting sacked before even turning around or removing PA’s from my arsenal because of that risk.

It's easy to have revisionist history because hindsight is 50/50 but the facts are the 2008/2009 & 2009/2010 Dallas Cowboys are two of the best football teams ever created from a talent standpoint. I have so much tape on the past 30 seasons that I can say without a doubt they had the most talent. Their problem were injuries and although injuries are a part of the game they hit the Cowboys harder than any other club besides NE last year. If Madden 10 comes through with this aspect we can all expect T.Romo's athletic ability shine with these new ratings. I'll also say this on record T.Romo athletically is top 3 in the league.

when the playoffs were on the line for the boys where was romo
i have spent countless hours breaking down tape of Romo in clutch situations and he just does not show up
i think he should spend some time with Troy and Roger and see if he can fix that

Eli's screen might be bad but D.McNabb's short passes are the worst ever in league history. I have too much tape on those lame unintentional spikes in the dirt. McNabb likes to lock that knee up which is just poor mechanics. You have to keep those knees limber that's why T.Romo and D.Brees dominate the short passing game.

A fellow student of the game. How far back does your experience breaking down film go? How much tape do you have? Did you go down to Indy this week for the combine? I have a lot of tape of this past season and have seen a lot of Brees throws although he does throw a accurate deep ball he doesn't have the arm strength of a Manning, McNabb or Romo.

dude…..hopefully they fix that annoying thing in o0 where you hit your guy on an in route route, and the WR reaches behind himself to catch the ball, thereby slowing down so much that he gets smashed, and more often than not lose the ball.

The one thing I hope EA implements this year is signature throws and running styles, nba live was on that last year and I'm hoping Madden follows their footsteps. Another thing I'd like to see them do is try and make the deep ball catch seem more realistic… but this sounds good hopefully they can show gameplay footage later towards release on how this would actually work.

Yeah, there are basically no over the shoulder deep catches…its pretty unrealistic when you have your reciever turn around full circle and reach for the ball like he's dancing some sort of ballet. That never happens in real life, they should fix that
