MLB 2K9 and 09 The Show Player Comparison Video

I’m really enjoying creating the HD videos so I decided to do something a little different and make one that put MLB 09 The Show and MLB 2K9 right up against each other. This one isn’t in full HD since I had to convert it but it still looks pretty good. I took at bats from Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Howard, and Carl Crawford from the pitching perspective so you can compare graphics and signature stances among other things.

Actually an unintended result of the video is displaying one of the problems with 2K9, that being the CPU swinging at most every strike. Even though I was just messing around you can see the counts getting deeper with the examples from The Show vs the ones from 2K9. It is a pretty stark difference when going back and forth between the games.

Also it looks like a lot of sites are receiving their copies of the 2K9 today, I won’t know if my copy has arrived until I get home this afternoon. If it has then I’ll start up full coverage tonight. Continue on to view the comparison video and leave your thoughts in the comments.

    right…and not for nothing, but there maybe some casual baseball fans who own a ps3 and are on the fence about which game to get (and i do know that the ps3 version of 2k is usually inferior to the 360 version, but you cant assume everyone knows that)…..theres nothing wrong with just getting the information out there. you know what they say…"dont shoot the messenger" hahaha

    I am always a fan of minor leagues in baseball games. In The Show, will minor league teams be playable this year?

    Also, are players like Chris Duffy and Scott Thorman (Brewers) eligible to be in the game this year? They have been in the majors for several years but played in the minors all of last year. I know Gabe Kapler wasn't in the game last year to start out because he was out of the majors for a year or two.

    Very good video…shows the strengths and weaknesses in BOTH games.

    in my opinion, the show needs to upgrade their player models yesterday, that PS2 interface, as well as the commentary team- I mean seriously, rex hudler and dave campbell probably haven't been in the recording booth in 5 years for that game.

    But even with all that they look to have the better baseball game this year – the graphics are re-SICK-ulous, the pitcher/batter duel looks really good, and the ROAD TO THE SHOW is the stuff of legend…some of the problems I'm seeing w/2k9 are simply inexcusable. I don't want to hear the "but this is their first year!" bullshit…

    I'm seriously considering retiring from baseball gaming altogether after this.

    The player models dont look good in either,They had them perfect in the 2k8, . but Visual concepts had to screw up the player models and movements like every game they ever done(nba 2k9 is a perfect example) was a perfect game if the player models moved half like real human beings. I like a lot stuff that visual concepts add to games though but they are 10 years behind on trying make realistic looking player models. Good god triple play baseball had better player models and movements. I am so sick of vc making great games and screwing them up by shitty player models,sluggy movements and unproportioned bodies.

    Heres my comparison its the little things look at he gloves in 2k9 there to big they look like old school golves and in the shows there just right,also that throw utley made tryin to turn the double play theres no way they will throw the ball like that to turn a DP,also on sig stances the show got way better stances because if you play the demo on the show almost everyone has signature stance and i think everyones stance is on point and 2k9s not everyones has one carlos pena in 2k9 does not have a stance its generic also evan longoria where batting gloves as u see in da 2k9 he does not where one im not biast but what i like about 2k9 is there commentary but both games got great commentary…graphic wise i say the show cuz 2k9 looks like ps2 graphics..lighting goes to the show hands down…pitching the show cuz people are to happy about the pitching in 2k9 is the show is the closest game to MVP…i think is gonna be another dissappointment

    Did any body notice how slow the pitches are in 2K9? I saw The Show footage first and the ball zipped in there nicely. Then when I saw the fastball on 2K9, I thought it was a change up at first. When I played it back, I was shocked to see that sure enough it was actually the fastball. I play at the high school level and something like that would be an absolute meatball. Unbelievable.

    All you homers need the STFU, both games are good. I have a 360 so im getting 2k9 which looks sweet to me. Much improved over last years. Quit fighting about it…

    2K9 is way better, the Show looks like the same game as last year, plus the batting sound is like "click". LOL. The Show is still in 720p too. Looks like Sony fanboys (possibly Pasta is one) are frothing at the mouth. Heck, most of them don't even own both consoles like we do.
