Installing MLB 2K9 to the Hard Drive

When the NXE update for the 360 came out back in November I analyzed the benefits that were seen when installing games and playing them from the hard drive. You can check out those results here. That was apparently a popular feature as I have received numerous requests to do the same with MLB 2K9.

While I can’t speak yet to any marginal performance improvements that may or may not come with the install I did compare loading times for the game when played with the disc vs the hard drive.

Size of install- 6.7 GB
Time to install- 9:51

Loading to the start screen
Disc- 30 seconds
Hard Drive- 14 seconds

Loading into a game
Disc- 15 seconds
Hard Drive- 4 seconds

Loading out of a game to menu screen
Disc- 3 seconds
Hard Drive- 1 second

So the benefits in this case are actually relatively significant. I can tell you that even without timing it I noticed how much quicker things were loading. In that first set of games I tested you could sense the improvements but they weren’t as pronounced as how it felt while going through MLB 2K9. Installing also offers the opportunity to play with a quieter system as the drive does not have to be constantly accessed and that in turn may place less strain on the hardware. So for those of you who have the hard drive space to do so you’ll appreciate the benefits of installing the game and playing from the hard drive.

Liar? Are you serious? Wow man, not sure how you can defend a game that is so flawed.

The video above is one example. Outfielders letting balls drop next to them, first basemen not standing on the bag, fielders going in slow motion so a ball could drop instead of getting to it. That all happened to me within the first 5 innings of gameplay. Its an absolute mess.

That's true. I'd only install a game if I was going to be playing it often and needed the faster speed. I don't see many people rushing to their 360's and being so excited to play this game that they can't wait a couple more seconds.

Hey pasta, i saw that there are sliders on the game, has anyone found out some good ones to use? just mainly to get rid of the computer swinging at every pitch

I am so frustrated with the Sliders. There are no sliders to stop the CPU from swinging at everything. That is Numero Uno Problemo.

I liked last years game a lot. I am 360 only, so I worked the sliders for untold hoursand ended up happy with the game against the CPU. As far as I can tell, that will not be possible this year.

IMO, this game is a huge let down and the MLB should be ashamed of entering into a agreement with 2k. This game probably just forced me to spend my hard earned on a PS3.

I'm glad they made it so you can download games to your hard drive. It's saved my Xbox. I had it in a bad location and it overheated so last year's game was hard on my system. Since the NXE I have been able to pay games no problem.

pasta, i saw ur twitter update about how bad 2k9 is. i have to disagree with you because i got it to and think its actually really good. there are a few things that piss me off like it feels like theres something holding my outfielders back sometimes when running for a flyball. also, i need to stop coming here because since following this site since july, iv bought two games on release day i would have never bought due to this site lol(nhl 09 and mlb 2k9). pasta, uv made me spend 120 unnecessary dollars on games lol jk. i dont regret buying wither one of them for $60. keep up the great job pasta.
