Peter Moore has just released the first screenshot from Madden 10 on his blog. More than just being excited for the first look at the game there are several new additions that can be identified from it. Hand towels, on-field referees, and the chain gang are immediately apparent. Head on over to read the full posting on the subject.

Over the next several weeks you’re going to be hearing more about how this year’s game is going to continue to push the boundaries of authenticity in gameplay, presentation, and art style.  It’s the fight for every yard in the NFL that makes the battles playing out on Sundays throughout the fall and winter so compelling.  From everything I have seen in Madden NFL 10 so far this year, the authenticity of gameplay is showing striking improvement in physics, realism and responsiveness. Having recently sat through a full product review from our team in Orlando, it’s abundantly clear that this could be the deepest, most graphically-rich Madden ever, and a stunning testament to the talented development team who have had a maniacal focus delivering a landmark title to Madden Nation in 2009.

Does the “fight for every yard” theme offer any hints towards a cover athlete? There is a good chance that the choice will represent that. So what do you think of the screenshot and what it has revealed? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

Looks good for a first screenshot … but, if they can take a few pointers from MLB 09 The Shows graphics team, they might just be on to something.

    Either way, looks good.

To be more accurate they need to throw a flag or Bryan Robinson in this pic for playing to rough.

Not that I'm aware of. I think there will be a ton of stuff around the draft though, they have some pretty big plans lined up for this year.

Are those refs on the field??? Look to the right of Roethlisberger's helmet…that looks like the Head Linesman. If that's true, we'll see how people respond who've complained about this for years.

It's exciting if it is…but it will probably in Madden but not in college football and I vow to NEVER buy Madden again.

    • Jamin

It looks life a ref on the field to me too . I am exited for madden 10 and that only adds to the presentation. August is so far away. Now only if the eagles can get Anquan Boldin.

I actually like that the best! Ben holds it in that position and I am happy that they don't have him holding the ball up above his shoulders like year's past! Now, if they could only release some T.O. shots……….

the thing im most excited about is the way ben is holding the ball, if they have his in there then they probably have other specific QBs in too.
as far as the "fight for every yard" thing if that is a hint toward the cover athlete then it has to be adrian peterson

I think its about time for an offensive lineman on the american version of madden… "fight for every yard", theyve said this year there focusing on core gameplay and not flashy gimmick, so why not put an offensive lineman on it (the least flashy player on the field)… its not going to hurt sales because AP or big ben arent on the cover

… Oh and niiiiice pic, still a day one rent unless the gameplay vids look very promising. FINALLY they have refs, not a new feature to a football video game but a VERY VERY welcomed addition… it has great presentation value

    • Meeks

andre smith with his shirt off like the picture in sports illustrated. that was disgusting

I think the whole ball holding thing is coincidence. I would love to see Madden add some kind of "Signature Style" like 2K Sports has for pitchers, batting stances, free throws, jump shots etc. For Madden we could have Signature QB throws, running back styles, kicking stances (think Matt Stover), among other signature additions. That would add extreme realism to agame that already looks and sounds awesome.

Looks like a real pocket forming to me. The tackle is actually swinging out instead of being stuck battling right at the line of scrimmage.

I can see several things wrong with this pic
1)The player sideline looks like more of the same lifeless group moving in unison. Notice how all of the players are looking in space or at the end zone instead of looking at the play
2)The hand towel looks as stiff as Vin Deisel's acting
3)The referee is too close he should be 5-7 yards back from the QB after he made his drop step. This referrer looks like he's trying to close in on the tackle
4)The offensive line looks like another year of human turnstiles. Notice how the OT uses his right hand to try to push the DE. Either this is player technique or programing issue (I vote for the latter) Looks like DE can fake out OT all day again just like last year.
5)Lastly it seems that we have another "footing: issue. It doesn't look like anybody can actually plant their foot instead it's more ice skating just like year's past

Wow, that looks really good imo. I cant believe I'm saying that, but the details are great. I mean you can see a ton of stuff on the sidelines, not to mention the refs and hand towel. Wow, could EA actually be paying attention to detail????
