Peter Moore has just released the first screenshot from Madden 10 on his blog. More than just being excited for the first look at the game there are several new additions that can be identified from it. Hand towels, on-field referees, and the chain gang are immediately apparent. Head on over to read the full posting on the subject.

Over the next several weeks you’re going to be hearing more about how this year’s game is going to continue to push the boundaries of authenticity in gameplay, presentation, and art style.  It’s the fight for every yard in the NFL that makes the battles playing out on Sundays throughout the fall and winter so compelling.  From everything I have seen in Madden NFL 10 so far this year, the authenticity of gameplay is showing striking improvement in physics, realism and responsiveness. Having recently sat through a full product review from our team in Orlando, it’s abundantly clear that this could be the deepest, most graphically-rich Madden ever, and a stunning testament to the talented development team who have had a maniacal focus delivering a landmark title to Madden Nation in 2009.

Does the “fight for every yard” theme offer any hints towards a cover athlete? There is a good chance that the choice will represent that. So what do you think of the screenshot and what it has revealed? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

    1) videogame basketball sidelines & baseball dugouts & hockey benches all look just as "lifeless" so what's your point? Does it really require the added memory needed???
    2)wow…..great comment
    3)you are joking, right? RIGHT???
    4)looks like a promising pocket to me…
    5)don't see it——————————————————you suck

NICE. There's a Super Bowl patch on their uniforms, which is really good to see.

  • Joe

I want team specific pro bowl helmets.

I don't think that this will happen. I do some mods over at a site called MVPMods, and as far as I know all the players on the same team have to be wearing the same uni in that game. Not sure if this only limited in that game, or if they would be able to have players keep their helmets for only the Pro Bowl. This seems very unlikely to me.

Thank you EA for adding refs and a chain gang. Finally I get the opportunity to read wish lists minus this annoyance….

I guess your a EA Sports flunky, how much does that pay? Or do they pay you in nutz (literally). Get off of the bandwagon and have your own opinion. Madden is a cash cow that takes little improvement to make. They only revamp the series every 5 years like it some kind of car or something. They should just put out a game every 2 years but no they rather feed us the same game with additions they took out year's past. It's totally BS they take out 10 additions a year then they add them back later and boasts about new additions. It's time for Madden to really step up and ADD SOMETHING that should have always been in there such as a REAL FREE AGENCY, REAL ONLINE LEAGUES (not the half-a@@ crap from last year), NO MORE AUTOMATIC ANIMATIONS (it's 2009 and next generation it's time to use dynamic gaming with no prerecorded animations like a QB passing the ball then getting sacked because of back programming), TAKE HEAD COACH AND COMBINE. It's time for EA Sports and the Madden crew to stop milking the cow dry give the people what they want. especially when they know they have the resources. It's a BILLION DOLLAR MARKET for goodness sake.

"I hate Madden and think it sucks! if your don't hate Madden and think it sucks then your just a EA Sports flunky."

I love how someone who most likely has no clue about the actual technical limitations preventing rich animated sidelines can put down the work of his intellectual superiors (developers at EA) because they didn't include a frivolous resource intensive feature he wants. Mr.Bubbles, venture out of your parents basement and get an education.

      • Mr. Bubbles

I like how someone who has a limited literary education doesn't know how to properly quote someone. Nobody wants to hear about all of the pain and suffering it takes to develop a game when they are paying everybody at least 6 figures in a billion dollar industry come on now. The reason games and software cost so much is to support the salaries of the designers. Then they mass produce something with bugs and wait for the response by the people to acknowledge the bugs and maybe they will get around to fixing it (let me know if I'm saying something incorrect Software Flunkies) or they can do what they did this year. When they received an outpouring of complaints they fix some of the issues then gave a lame excuse of not fixing anymore to concentrate on next years cash cow. EA is just like every other capitalist industry their sole existence is to milk the cow dry. There are no other competitors as they officially and legally eliminated them and here we are with EA Sports the only game in town so you have to buy us. All I'm asking is that if you want us to shell out 60 everything give us more dynamic game play not just graphics not just rosters changes actual game play.

Looks great so far. Does anyone know if the Lions new uniforms are going to make it into the game. They are supposed to be shown for the first time at the draft so I'm wondering if they are already in the game….

Lol, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the thumb is on the other side of the ball. I know Big Ben got hurt in that crash, but I'm pretty sure it didn't cause his thumb to go and line up with the other 4 fingers.

Mr. Bubbles…….it might be a little premature to think the game will become what it was previously just based on one pic. However, I do have to agree with the footing, sideline and especially OL and DL interaction as its has been plague by previous versions…….and if I'm judging JUST from this pic, you are not far from the truth. Would definitely like to see some videos to know for sure how this game has changed.

While this year's game was actually playable, Its' tough to debate this response. Nothing against you uiucjpo, but there's some validity to bubbles view.

As far as the refs being in the game, sure we see them, but so often do we see things in offline play, that somehow are unusable — online.

Hopefully, the refs will be a part of online play.

This Bubbles guy is a moron. There, I said it. All the developers are making 6 figures each? Really?

Like Skihawks said, it'll be nice to not have to wade through the wishlists without the "no refs, no towels, no FG net" crowd. Any bets on what the "whine-of-the-year" will be? I'll take:

"The sideline fans are not spraying actual particles of water! *whine*whine"

+ refs, graphic tune up, busy sidelines, first down marker, towel. Great attention to detail. kept their word.
-looks nothing like ben roethlisberger(sign saying that players still look very generic and lack originality and life like player traits), animations still look mechanical.

No offense taken. But as someone who has followed new lead producer Ian Cummings' posts on Operation Sports, I don't feel like this will be the "same old, same old" madden. If you haven't read these, I highly recommend it. They are as engaging and informative as any producer has ever been that I'm aware of. He freely admits mistakes of the past, and his efforts to correct them. As well as what he is and isn't capable of correcting.

Will things be wrong with the game? Of course!! There always will be. But anyone who assumes that they can determine that this game will be terrible based on one (ONE!) picture and feels that "you suck" is a viable response, instantly loses all credibility.

And despite costs, or marketing, or perceived lack of interest, LIMITATIONS ARE LIMITATIONS. The price of a game or stock price of a company will not change that.
