On Monday the first screenshot for Madden 10 was revealed by Peter Moore. Today Art Director Michael Young goes though the numerous improvements or additions that are on display in that screen. The refs, chain gang, and hand towels were the most obvious but there are others such as depth of field, Super Bowl patches and fields, secondary color equipment, and better name layout on jerseys.  You can read up on everything on the Inside EA Blog here.

In today’s blog, I’m going to go to really dive into some detail on one of our new features that you likely will have noticed right off the bat: Depth of Field.  In addition, I will talk about the 9 other Madden NFL 10 enhancements shown in the shot unveiled on Peter’s blog.

All of that alone would be great but they’ve gone even further by considering the feedback over the last two days regarding the size of Ben Roethlisberger. Some people felt he looked a little thin so now they’ve beefed him up a bit. The screenshot above shows the updated Big Ben. Feel free to leave your thoughts on that new screen in the comments.

  • YES!!!!!! EA got my letters, I asked weres the little things like the Super Bowl Jersey patches and feilds. Also the towls and handwarmers too. Im pumped about the new Madden and love the cover too, GO STEELERS

    Steelers suck.

Can the next one be Ed Reed returning an INT vs Dolphins wearing a dark visor.
  • Mr Bubbles
I still see issues with this game. The way Big Ben is holding the ball is all wrong

1st his left elbow should be tucked in more and the ball shouild be more towards his right torso at a sklant angle. The way he's holding it now looks stiff like Vin Diesel's acting.

2nd his grip is incorrect. The laces should be in his palm not looking at the defenders LOL. His grip also looks prteey weak almost as if we have another year of footballs that do 360 turns i players hand again LOL (yall know what I'm talking about).

Last #63 looks like he's whiffing on a block. He seems more concerned with standing in space than getting his hnds on a defender. EA yall still have some more work ahead of you so get busy!

Oh yeah! I'm gonna play NHL 10 to get my football fix!
  • ewwww
i have bought every madden since 2001, but i will probably not be buying madden 10... because it has gotten that trash and boring... and NHL 10 will be that much better!!!
  • EAHater
i have to disagree on the "all generations" comment. Madden '05 had the best franchise mode.It had the setting of prices(tickets,concessions,etc..)it had the team newspapers, the radio show with player and coach guests,it had the player morale that actually meant something, you could change teams after the season,it was the best franchise i ever played....and it has sucked every since.
  • JimBone
Ummmmm... Madden 05 was LAST GEN. This generation began with 06 on 360. My point stands, franchise has been a broken mess all generation.
  • JimBone
In reality, we ARE the vast minority. *Millions* of people buy this game and most are just kids. If you think they buy the game for Franchise so they can go through 30 seasons of micromanagement, then it's time to get a brain scan.

Franchise has been a broken piece of crap in Madden all generation, yet it continues to sell millions. If franchise mattered that much the game would be a complete failure, but the reality is that it doesn't matter much to the userbase as again the high sales keep on rolling in.

I play franchise, I'm just not delusional about how many people actually care about it.

i think this madden is gunna be the first realistic madden ever!!! all the ones where alrite it was only about who kno's the most money plays or who knows the best nano blitz's cuz every game i played it was very easy online! put fast cb's at safety i get at least 4 picks a gm it was just too easy!! this game its gunna be more like chess!... im liking everything im seeing so far i just cant wait cuz i knoo imma be a top dogg in madden 10!!! (madden 08 123-11) (madden 09 153-49)

*oh yeah they need 2 fix the online disconnection glitches i lost so many games like that it stupid!!
  • Ty
This game just keeps getting better and better. Its KILLING me to have to wait 5 more months. And Ian said there was even MORE new things coming out about that picture. This game is getting INSANELY good. If that game has anymore new things comeout about it my head is going to pop.
  • cant wait til draft day screens
  • Hines Ward
    he still looks thin
  • BigBen
In all honesty if they wanted to make a perfect game they would have to make two seperate games. I just hope that all of the catering to the small details will not disrupt the game play. I think above all gameplay should be the priority. But I am very happy to see that they are listening to the people that buy their game. I appreciate that alot.
  • This game's looking great. I appreciate that they modified Big Ben a little bit, but I don't think the issue was that he's too skinny, rather he looked kind of deformed. It might have to do with the fact that it's just a screenshot and not actually in motion. Either way he looks better now.
  • Rick
I want this game to be so replayable that the draft is fun. I mean i want to look forward to the off season not sim thru it im sure most will agree. Those that play franchise like me.
  • t daley
Wow, this is the freaking greatest news I have ever heard in my life <sarcasm>. I don't know what I would have done if they didn't add those hand towels onto the uniforms this year. Phew! I am so relieved.
  • t. daley
Cmon Rick, This is Madden we are talking about here and with madden there are always 4 things you can count on:
    1) The changes will be marginal
    2) The Hype will be immence
    3) The Lovers will lust for it and the haters will hate on it
    4) 2kfanboys will whine and stomp their feet that NFL 2k5 is better.
  • Andrew
The Lions have a new logo I just seen on yahoo!
  • pat
by the two screens i see so far it looks like they fixed the shoulder pads problems
  • Mykal94
    "have fixed the FB issue"

It should be FB dive issue.
  • Mykal94
I don't know why some people keep hating on this game already. Last year's Madden was pretty bad and I got little value out of it, BUT I kind of feel like things are turning around. You have to remember that some of the stuff we've gotten from the developers has been pretty important and we are still far, far away from August. Many people are complaining about no gameplay stuff coming out, but they have already talked about head tracking, WR/DB interaction, QB drop steps, momentum, and have fixed the FB issue. Last year we had no news at this point, and with them cranking out info every couple days to every week, it makes me feel like they're excited about the new additions that are coming (not only the ones that are here now) and they might have something big in store for later. They are making me feel like Madden 10 is gonna be a game that EA is proud to have it's name on.
  • t. daley
Here lies the typical madden post that gets rehashed year after year.

Why are you hating already on the new game and last years game was pretty bad. Same old bullshit, different year.

Last years madden was just fine and this years madden will be just fine. and all the comments about the game will be exactly the same as they were last year. Bashing on Madden for the most rediculous of reasons has become sport now. There are no rational people who post about this game anymore. Next thing you know they will be complaining that the color of the goalposts is the wrong shade of yellow.
  • Mykal94
"Next thing you know they will be complaining that the color of the goalposts is the wrong shade of yellow. "

I know I hate these people who complain about the smallest, unimportant things in the world because their favorite team/player's is slightly different than everybody elses. I read a post and this guy was complaining about how last year, Brain Dawkins' chinstrap wasn't thick enough! Now that is something to laugh at. But it did have some issues that needed to be fixed and I just hope they get fixed and other things get improved upon. That is will make Madden 10 worth my purchase (even if it is for 60 bucks).

PS t. daley I don't know if you didn't read my entire post or wasn't talking about me but I hope you don't think that I was one of the irrational people. I was trying to shut them up.
  • REX
    LoL at this moron ^
  • Darren
GREAT STUFF! I always thought players looked like minis when they were out there. Looks GREAT!
  • Shomari
Is there anybody out there that's like me? I just play games in dynasty (NCAA) and franchise (Madden). I could care less about how it plays online. I just want a game that I can play that's good for me to lose myself for a couple hours.

    Am I the only one?
  • kbshowtyme
I just play Madden chise all the time Im in my fourth season and its great although I never made it to the superbowl because of the high settings and rule of 3 I use......Im enjoy this game but I hope EA really upgrade the chise mode
  • KRIS
me too. and im a guy who actually plays the superstar mode. (i kno) and i have found a huge problem.the team that ur playing for can never score (i made a linebacker) no matter how many times u stop the opposing team ur team can never score. the only way is to make a offensive player. or get a pick and run it back. in my eyes thats a huge problem. EA can u plz just fix the bugs and improve the gameplay by a MILE!!!
  • MINOR LEA
Absolutely not although many will try to convince you that your the vast minority
  • Dex
I'm the same way. While I played the hell out of NCAA this year, Madden's franchise mode had no replay value. It seemed every draft class in franchise was half qb's, half cb's as projected first rounders. And no rb should be projected first rounder if he's got an 80 in speed.
  • Static
15 EA articles in a row pasta, KEEP THE STREAK GOIN PASTA, I NEED MORE MADDEN SCREENSHOT BREAK DOWNS, THE GAME HAS REALLY MERITED IT WITH ITS RECENT HISTORY AND ALL
  • jrtplaya21
    Yeah I haven't bought Madden since 07.
  • EAHater
As much as I want to jump for joy at EA finally getting things in the game we been clammoring for for the last 4 years,I'm still not gonna let the EA hype machine get me. Until August '09 comes,I'm not gonna be tricked again.I hope Madden 10 is the one,but I have been hoping for the last 4 years.....
  • James
"As you can see we are very serious about getting to those little details. Our feeling is that every single player is probably someone's favorite, so if we get that character wrong in any way, the Madden experience is less than what it could be for that fan."

Im hoping this Quote from the blog means no more braided dreads and maybe get troy's "puff" in the game or something close to it...
  • Apparently it is animated yes.
  • BkP
Who are the hardcore gamers? Online people just want glitch free play with a smooth presentation. Ppl that do not have the online experience want a glitzy detail filled ultimate experience. It seems that the past few years they have left one group wanting a little more than the other. It would be nice if they could find a nice medium between the two "hardcore" gamers.
  • BkP
It's nice seeing all of these little details being added but I hope they remember that it all boils down to gameplay. I would trade in not having mouthpieces for a relatively glitch free online experience. The FB dive this year was awful and I was glad to see that they are fixing that.
  • James
I think it could be done... if they did the meter with the pressing X to start the kick, then X to set the power then having to hit X in an accuracy window (and kickers with better accuracy have a bigger window. I think if they got the speed of the cursor right it would greatly improve the kicking game. (maybe vary the cursor speed to throw off people making the kicking game more difficult)
