Pursuit Angles in NCAA Football 10

One of the biggest gripes the community had with NCAA Football this last year was the pursuit angles taken by defensive players. In this week’s posting on the Inside EA Blog designer Russell Kiniry goes over the improvements made to pursuit angles and demonstrates with two sets of videos comparing 09 to 10. You can check out the full posting here.

We’ve really only begun to scratch the surface of this year’s game and we haven’t even hinted about a few of the biggest additions. Sadly we still are not ready to talk about them yet, but from reading all the comments and messages boards… I know one in particular will be a fan favorite. This week we are going to cover the Player Pursuit Angles and how they have improved from last year’s game.

This caps off a pretty big week for NCAA 10. It has brought the community event last Friday that should directly affect the final product and now two blogs going over different problems that have been addressed this year. It is good to see NCAA start to churn out the reasons to be excited to match with the anticipation that is building around Madden.

Really good things coming from EA on the football games this upcoming year. Glad to hear they are listening to gamers.

Yeah, this is an awesome touch. When I first started to read the article I was becoming more concerned with the player's inability to break a long run for a TD. Nice to know that each player will be rated on pursuit. I am not for 80 yard runs being the norm but I want that possibility to still exist in the game, even against top defenses…

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/rezluk Rezluk

yeah man i agree it would suck if you couldnt even break off a big gain and you could only get like 2-5 yards per carry…i cant remember what game did this but that was the case

It must be nice to basically take last year's Madden engine and spend 8 months tweaking it to make it actually work right in the first damn place. NCAA has just been Madden Version 1.5 of whatever year for the last three seasons.

Everything is the same minus a few NCAA specific features.

THE STREAK LIVES..17 EA BLOGS IN A ROW!!

    • rspencer86

It's not like there's a bunch of news from other developers that is going uncovered. I mean, what would the blog titles be?

"MLB 2k9: Yep, it still sucks."

"We don't know anything about NBA 2k10."

Anyway, do you think any of the additions and improvements that have been announced for Madden will make their way into NCAA as well, Pasta?

UFC Undisputed is not an EA game.

And really the proportion of articles isn't going to change. I'd expect some news on The BIGS 2 for the few weeks before it releases, and then maybe NBA 2K10 will start with some info in August or so. Other than that its all EA games outside of UFC (Tiger, Grand Slam, Fight Night NCAA, Madden)

This sounds good, but I'm curious as to why the DE is #81. I'm pretty sure that's against the rules.

  • kretch16

It might be against the rules in the NFL but in college football there really is no rule as to what number a DE can wear. It can be 1-99. As long as no one else on the defense has the number.

    • Don Ho

You expect EA to know this? Major secret…they dont closely follow the sport they are making games of.

      • http://www.intensedebate.com/people/Sidewinder Sidewinder

Actually, I just checked and Sam Acho, one of thier DE's is #81. I assumed the number rules were the same at any level but I guess not. My bad.

No refs, chaingangs, coaches on the sideline=No buy

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/ascgrizz2010 ascgrizz2010

wow, go cry me a river. even if the game had refs, chaingangs, and coaches on the sideline you'd find another thing to complain about and say you weren't going to buy it because they didn't have something like "putting a specific color mouthpiece"

      • http://intensedebate.com/people/cabrillo24 cabrillo24

It would be a nice touch, and I'd be happy to see refs, chain gangs and coaches, but if I had to choose one over the other, I'd choose the improvements to game play and the core of the game as it's what's going to provide longetivity of the game (combined with other features).

I really hope they improve the crowd in any way at all, whether it be in crowd-noise, presentation and team chants. I played 05 for the Gamecube recently as the Packers and they were cheering their signature "Go Pack Go!" I don't remember that in Madden 09…why do they keep removing things?

LOL. Pasta the hating is coming in a little early. Who cares that many other studio's aren't releasing much intel behind their games, that's your FAULT.

Welcomed additions. I still laugh at the people who would prefer refs in the field over game play improvement in these football games. Cracks me up.

    • Josh

Who the hell ever said they "prefer refs over gameplay"? How dumb is that? Nobody is suggesting that refs are more important than gameplay. Why can't you have both DETAIL & GAMEPLAY? Have you guys ever heard of that concept? What's wrong with wanting a game to be detailed? What's wrong with wanting a company to live up to it's modo "If it's in the game it's in the game"? You guys who rip people who want detail are the ones who crack me up. You guys who always think that you have to sacrifice gameplay for detail are the ones who crack me up. Oh wait, maybe EA has you all brainwashed to think that way. With all this technology at our disposal, why not push it to the limit & add every little detail WITHOUT SACRIFICING GAMEPLAY? MLB the Show 09 seemed to pull it off so why not EA?

I'm really excited for this! I have missed the opportunity to tackle someone numerous times because the defender I switched to was already making a horrible angle on the player.

the twitch thing in ncaa 09 is what made me able to return punts for touchdowns
i can return punts with slower guys unlike in madden 09
in madden 09 if you dont have a 97 plus return man you have NO, and I mean NO shot of returning a punt on pro difficulty or above.
i ncaa 09 i returned a punt with a 90 speed guy on heisman difficulty (it was more fun)
