Jay Cutler To The Bears

Reports are now surfacing that the Broncos have agreed to a trade sending Jay Cutler to the Bears. The package for Cutler is said to include two first round picks, a third round pick, and Kyle Orton. A fifth rounder will be sent back along with Cutler to Chicago.

That is a hefty price to pay but rare is the opportunity to get a QB of Cutler’s caliber. This is especially the case for the Bears who have suffered through mediocrity at the position for so many years. The Broncos definitely come out of a bad situation looking better than many would’ve predicted given the circumstances.

With Devin Hester’s speed on the outside and Matt Forte as a threat in the running game this makes the Bears’ offense much more dynamic. If they were to draft another receiver or offensive lineman with their second rounder they’d be in even better shape. What do you think of Chicago acquiring Cutler and how will it affect the teams in Madden 10?

I can see the huddle right now. Devin, go deep. O-line, just give me a few seconds.

woah, pasta you're fast. I just read breaking news on nfl.com.. tab over to pasta and reload and its already blogged with a picture! impressive :)

I really wanted to see Jay go to Detroit. I dont like seeing a team go 0-16.. and if they pick Stafford it sucks to see all that money go into a bust.

But yeah this should be good for Chicago.. be interesting to see if Orton is part of the trade.

Wow, that was quick. They must have really wanted to get rid of him. I think both teams got a pretty good deal. Chicago finally has a QB and Denver gets rid of the crybaby while adding some good draft picks to the fold. Kyle Orton sucks so that's a major step down for them, but he's not their future, just a stop-gap QB until they can get someone else anyway.

Glad to see that soap opera over.

wow wut a great trade for chicago not only in real life but in madden looks like the bears will finally be used in madden lol

That's the benefit of taking screens beforehand anticipating possible outcomes :)

I updated the story with the terms of the deal. Two first rounders, a third rounder, and Orton for Cutler and a fifth rounder.

thats crazy pasta. i was just gonna post that lol. I would have never guessed the Bears. Do you think they traded to first round picks and Orton to get him? Now the bears need a true #1 reciever then they are set to reach the playoffs

This is a perfect situation for Chicago. Cutler is a Bears fan and has the armstrength to play in Chicago. Devin Hester has someone to get him the ball down field. And his almost telepathic relationship with Earl Bennett fills Chicagos need for a 2nd receiver. A few well chosen offensive and defensive linemen from the draft and this team could be very dangerous.

ESPN is reporting that the deal is Cutler and a 3rd Rd pick for Orton and a 1st Round pick in 2009 and 2010. I've seen three different versions of the trade in the last five minutes, so we'll just have to wait and see when it's made official.

to continue i mean this trades benefits greg olsen the most cuz cutler loves throwin to his tightends and also devin hester will def b asked to go deep alot lol now they only need one big time threa WR and a secondary tht doesnt get hurt then i think top 5 NFC team

At least Chicago will give him some great receivers to throw too. I see no possible way this will fail.

Anyway, we know he has a good arm, so it will be interesting to see how this affects Madden with Devon Hester's speed + Cutler being able to bomb it down field.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/mculberson mculberson

You mean as well as QB Kyle Orton. I just read the Broncos had to give up a 3rd round pick in addition to Cutler. So that would give the Broncos Orton and 2 1st Rd picks, and the Bears would get Cutler and a 3rd.

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/The_King_Wilmes The_King_Wilmes

o yea my bad QB Kyle Orton and I stand corrected the Broncos do indeed recieve a 3rd round draft pick. Sorry for the silly error>>>>>>>>>>>:(

cutler in madden will be a huge upgrade for the team imo. Hester's speed and cutlers arm will be a great combo. This trade doesn't surprise me as I thought the Bears would have the most to offer in terms of QB and picks

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/okafor43 okafor43

yes it will be a great combo but have da bears damaged long term success with the trades of 2 future first round pick??. the are a great run blocking team but can anyone pass block for longer than 2 seconds??

    broncos made away pretty good

  • Jasn

im just glad it wasnt the redskins really..
definately a good move for Chicago. In my opinion they should pick up Harrison or Holt if they can to make up for no first round pick. And maybe grab Ramses Barden the WR in the 2nd round if he is there.

yeah for the future but now kyle orton who couldnt win games for the bears is now your potential starting qb and no run game or great defense to help back him up!!! this will be intresting. first no cassell and now no cutler. lmao at mcdaniel. i hope they have something up there sleeve with this. maybe they will trade for brady quinn or derek anderson with the extra picks or use them to trade up for sanchez or stafford.

Idk it's amazing what an average QB can do with outstanding receivers. Because let's honest, Marshall and Royal are 20 times better than anything the Bears have. Also, McDaniels has coached and developed some pretty good QBs in the past, so it'd be great to see Orton thrive in Denver.

I think its a step forward for Denver… they got rid of a spoiled QB and have the necessary draft pics to get (possibly move up) a QB in the draft and groom him to replace cutler.

evrybody is beating up cutler for crying his way out but if somebody all in but every word said they didnt want you what would you do??

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/okafor43 okafor43

you trade a franchise qb to take an unproven one and you call that a step up???

      • http://intensedebate.com/people/darkheath darkheath

A terrible contract? It was for $7mil a year and he was whining that he couldn't feed his family (I'm talking TO/Philly contract). As far as Cutler goes, over 60% of the 20,000 people the Denver Post polled last night said "good riddance" (an actual quote from the poll). The thing is, character means more to me than flat out talent, and this shows a HUGE lack of character. So WHAT the team was looking into other options, you go back to the locker room, show the leadsership skills that your position demands and show that you you will be an asset to your current employer or to whatever team they send you. THEN, if you feel slighted, go into the coach's/GM's office and discuss the situation like professionals. That's what I or you would be expected to do in our current jobs. You do NOT throw a hissy fit from 1200 miles away and refuse to fly back to town to talk about it. That is just bullshit.

I'm actually sitting just one Cutler pass away from Mile High Stadium as I type this, and most of Denver is glad he's gone.

        • http://intensedebate.com/people/okafor43 okafor43

Lol. The players union advised T.O. not to sign such a backloaded contract as you might not know most contracts in the nfl are not really a sure things now a days. T.O. was soo happy to get out of the baltimore deal he signed anything the eagles presented to him. As far as Cutler yes he cried his way out but you tried to compare his sittuation to TO and they are totally diffrent. We will see how long the party last for with Orton at the qb for the Broncos. Poll again after the season.

Very good point. I've heard some say though that whoever gets the better player in a trade is the winner… but we will just have to wait and see. A solid QB is something that Bears fans (and vikes fans :P ) have been only been able to dream about. If Cutler continues to improve as QB he will be worth it for that team.
