New Madden 10 Screenshot

Traditionally there has never been much insight into the upcoming Madden before the NFL Draft. This year all that has changed with the Inside EA Blog postings and the first two screenshots having already been officially unveiled and broken down. Ian Cummings, lead designer of Madden 10, today posted a new screenshot. You can see it full size in the gallery.
The new screen does a good job of displaying some of the subtle improvements that have been made including the procedural awareness. There is an agressiveness being shown by the receiver that has never been apparent in previous iterations and the defensive back is not making a flailing leap into the air to bat the ball down. There is still a long ways to go but the natural look to the screens thus far is certainly encouraging.

i know some people think that's not a big deal but to me it makes the game much more realistic.
cuz my giants wear alot of red and i got tired of seeing them with the wrong stuff on.
ea is definitely stepping it up.

Ya really maybe this time around I can throw it up to a WR in the red zone and not have a CB just jump like 50 feet in the air over the WR and not have the WR even try lol.

Dis is a sweet pic. I like how they actually jump for the ball now. Also it looks like their kind of diving for it. Will we see more pics around the draft time pasta??

There should be a bunch around the draft. Probably all the 1st round picks in their new uniforms, in addition to the ratings reveals. The cover announcement right before the draft will probably have some new screens with that player out also.

What about any changes to the stiff-arm feature because it looks like you have a broken arm when you try and use it. So far the game is shaping up better than NCAA and I love the College football game more than I do Madden. What other new changes or additional items are being added Past eo the best of your knowledge.

i agree, what ever happened to stiff arm left and right
the ball carrier always stiff arms with the hand without the ball (why doesnt he switch the ball to the other hand)
i hate it when i am on the right side of the field, i have the ball in my left hand, a defensive player is to my left, and i stiff arm him with my right hand.

You need to tap the stiff arm button to switch hands, then hold it to stiff arm.

This goes to show important the Procedural Awareness really is because I think the best thing is how much more natural the DB play looks. Instead of just running with the receiver and starring at him, he's looking at the ball and is also pressing himself against the receiver, trying to box him out.

I hope they also added the option of changing yours and your opponents uniforms without them resetting whenever you play the game. I also hope they did something with the overall presentation to make the game feel more fun.

Hey Pasta, do you have any info on upgrades to the franchise mode? Also I think they need to improve on another major flaw in the route running. having receivers run routes out of bounds and then come back in to catch a pass is a NFL violation. If you step out of bounds on a play you can not be the 1st person to touch the football under any circumstance. This gives an unfair advantage to the offensive as it gives them an extra 6 yards on the sidelines and 12 yards in the end zone to play with.

There was a blog a couple days ago (the April Fool's one, I believe) that had to do with sideline catches and such, and they have talked quite a bit about improved route running. Whether or not they update the rules accordingly remains to be seen and while I am optimistic, it wouldn't be unlike EA Sports to improve a feature like sideline catches then forget a major rule like that. Here's hoping, right?

will madden 10 actually have correct player helmets.
ea always puts the wrong helmet on guys year after year.
Ex. It took a roster update in madden 10 to get ap and peyton mannings correct helmets.
Ex. way too many players have dark visors when they dont even where visors
Sometimes i doubt that some of the producers even watch football.

I agree. They gave brian westbrook a dark visor in 09 and he doesn't even wear a visor, he never has. They also do a pretty crappy job of assigning players their correct helmet and facemask due to the fact that they don't have all the various types of helmets and facemasks available in the game. Hopefully they still have time to add them.

I agree they claim to be avid sport fans and gamers but I really dont see it from the level of games they release every year. I might rent b4 I buy either Madden or NCAA this year. I need to see a major jump in improvement from EA this year.

There is good news on that front. From what I've read on EA Sports World and such, it appears as though much of what's going into Madden (revamped ratings system, new animations, etc) will be in NCAA. Some things (towels come to mind) may or may not be in, can't be sure this early. I think they're truly trying to tie the two games a little closer together, as is evidenced by the similar progress and the work on the Draft Class Import feature.
Here's hoping for a great Madden and NCAA!

it's been how many MADDEN NEXT GEN games?? they still have not matched the original trailor for madden next gen!!!!!! EA still has not even come close to the Game play of the 2K SERIES!!
Tell me has Madden fixed the PLAYER SUBSITUTION problem?? does EA know that there are different personel for each set play??? they still have not gotten that right, come on now!!!

Man honeslty this looks nice! im really feeling the gloves and how the corner and wr both attack the ball jus like in real-life! seems to me that madden may be heading in the right direction this time! i would love to have a complete madden this year no bullshit! it should be madden 2004 or 2005(gameplay) tied into madden 2009 next-gwn graphics! that would be the best madden ever! jus hope they add colored cleats and a helmet that actually looks like it fits your head! and how wen you edit a player and you tuck his slewves under his jersey i.e(raylewis, ed reed, james harrioson, antrell rolle, adrian wilson and etc) theplayers shoulder pads all of a sudden looks like he got on double pads! Perhaps you would like to go back to "John Madden Football 94", then? Pixel football at it's finest? Asking for next generation graphics out of a next generation game is not at all unreasonable.

Now options are a bad thing too? With a year in-between game releases and the exclusive rights to NFL video games, it's actually mind-boggling that they don't have things like officially licensed helmets, cleats, gloves, etc.

You must have not read what he was saying so I quoted it… KEY WORD visuals, not gameplay. Presentation is a HUGE part of a sports game, it's what makes The Show so great (along with great gameplay). It's also what makes the basketball titles feel authentic (AI, Melo, James). When playing with the Saints you feel like you dont even have jeremy shockey on the field. I remember when he was on the giants roster there was no visual difference between him and boss.

You must not be paying attention…….they've already re-done dozens of animations to make gameplay more realistic (qb drops,fb dives,wr/db jostling,etc.) and drastically improved lighting and depth of feild finally for improved graphics soooooooooooooo yeah these little "touches" are GREAT!!!! Now just—–>
1. add kicking meter
2. add ability to choose alternate jerseys online
3. 4 vs 4 play online/4 player offline PLEAEEEEESE!!!!

E. Manning's mask is wrong too! If EA put as much time making sure that NBA Live has signature looks and likenesses then why can't they make NFL players look identical to their real-life counterparts. All RB's and WR's look the same to me in Madden…..have Portis wear his colored socks extra high…make B.Jacobs look like….well……BRANDON JACOBS!!!

I'm amazed at how many people come in here to post just to talk shit about EA and Madden. Yes they haven't lived up to 2k gameplay yet but you would have to be blind to not realize that they have been working hard to bring back Madden from arcade to realistic.
Also, if this was last year we would have zero info now other than the press release so they still have not released any big features yet just little touches. If you go into this game expecting shit from EA then there is no chance you will be able to enjoy it. It would be like playing The Show and complaining that the players go through each other, focusing on the things it does bad rather than the all things it does good. I am going into this game with an open mind and if EA doesn't deliver then I will go back to All Pro Football but I am going to give it a fair chance first rather than hating on it before I've seen any gameplay videos.

The thing about the show is that the amazing gameplay and realism makes you look past things like players going through eachother everynow and then. If the show was like Madden you would have pitchers hitting 400ft HRs (like scrub LBs jumping 10ft into the air to pick a ball off), players just appearing at the mound instead of cutscences with stats, and every batting stance and pitching delivery would be the exact same. If the show was like that I bet people would be talking shit about it.
YES this year is looking alot more promising but statements they have made "what you see on sunday youll see in madden" and "most realistic madden to date" has been hear before from previous years yet were left dissapointed. I'm not giving madden shit but im not going to praise pics and statments they say. When the game come out ill rent it and give it a chance but their track record just shows dissapointment.

Yes I agree I didn't mean to compare The Show to Madden because clearly they aren't even close to on the same level. However, my point is that there are people out there who are going to hate Madden regardless of how good it is this year and point out the negatives. I'm not sold that Madden will be great this year but people keep making remarks about how they are just changing little things that aren't important and it will ultimately be the same game when they really haven't released any big info yet. People need to at least wait until Madden starts talking about the bigger gameplay improvements and videos of gameplay before they trash it.
Like I said before if Madden comes out like it has the past few years then I will be the first one to go right back to All Pro Football but I am going to wait and see before I make that decision.

There are no WR reverse, dbl WR reverse, WR toss,HB toss,etc………..I saw one flea-flicker last year and was SHOCKED that they actually had one! You see the Steelers & Pats use them like once a game.
