Madden 10 Franchise Mode Improvements

Another Monday brings a new Inside EA Blog for Madden 10. This time it is franchise mode that is being spotlighted. The post is done by Josh Looman who was the lead designer for NFL Head Coach 09 and moved over to Madden for this year. Detailed in the blog are areas such as offseason player signing logic, the draft, and player progression. You can check out the full posting here.

Since our ‘foundation’ is the logic behind every decision made in franchise mode, we knew we really wanted to address that foundation before anything else major was applied. I know some folks may be expecting the entire NFL Head Coach ’09 game to be dropped into Madden this year, but that’s not going to happen. We have a lot of work to do and it’s going to take us some time to start with the core of franchise mode and take it where we all want it to be.

Make Turning OFF Retirement an option!!!

    Very unrealistic I know...

But I HATE losing Ray Lewis and Urlacher due to retirement...and after 1 yr half the NFl is gone...IDIOTIC

Jerry Rice played until his hands turned to dust please extend the length the players play and give an option to turn retirement off.
If the counter to it would be to turn off incoming drafts that is fine (OPTIONS ARE ALWAYS ACCEPTABLE) (IF this then this...is fine aswell aka If No retirements then No Drafts)

No harm in adding a feature if theres an On/OFF option (fight for fumble)

Feel free to throw in Optional Features!!!

Also Cap penalty needs to be fixed...Late in a franchise if you screw up it should be like previous years (90million cap penalty....equals....switch cap to off permanently) it use to be on until you shut it off permanently. Now its either On or OFF no switching after starting.
  • Edit to above
(Not all players decline with age)...
  • AnotherPost
You fucked up the coaches this year and the way progression works with them....had to mention that sorry for the nice word used in their =) (that was after editing...trust me...)

Also Players do NOT Decline with AGE!!!
Look at Brett on the Vikings...the guy is pretty damn old considering hes a QB...and still makes the Big plays (ya hes not the greatest...but he does damn good occasionally)

    Think about it logically....
some players are great early and decline fast.
Some players suck and get great in time.
Some players suck and will always suck.
Some players are great and will always be great.

    No one-way streets EA.....

Seems you guys need to stop adding special effects and reconsider your idiotic logic.

Just Edit the profanity if it offends you =)

We all know we cant help but spit in your face each year no matter how great the improvements...

When Dealing with such a perfect sport...we expect a damn perfect game.

Cover is great! Props overall to the new development team.

The old one however can eat the fat ... I left in the toilet for them =)

Madden 2010 is Awesome in comparison to previous years.

However, EA has shit in our cereal a bit too much and If any NEW FEATURE is removed in 2011 (other then the IDIOTIC press xybaabxy to get the fumble....some jackass put that in...we arent 12 we dont want to press blue yellow green to get a touchdown...) Im done with Madden altogether.

One of the Biggest things I want to mention...
EA NEEDS TO REALIZE MADDENs PLAYERBASE is not 15 year olds!!! (except the online since the faggots cheat)
Watching party balloons and USAF thunderbirds crap is as entertaining as taking a shit christmas morning...
What happened to the cheerleaders in football???
*John Madden is a horny old man...why the hell did the cheerleaders get removed*

Overall Very Happy with Madden 2010! Lot to improve on but hell of a Great Start.
Hopefully EA understands madden 2010 is NOTHING special...its not the Greatest game ever but simply where Madden should have been 10 years ago.
So PLEASE Next year IMPROVE dont degrade the damn game and then update it with cheezy shit the next year.
Or....I simply wont buy it =) along with countless others.
Ea obviously doesnt understand they are losing their fanbase (IN EVERY DAMN GAME THEY MAKE...Epic Failure of what could be a great company)

BRING BACK MADDEN FOR PC! Release one each year and its sure to be bought...release the same one each year and it wont you damn retarded pricks...
    (money hungry bastards)
  • The Truth
guess what the game is released and im not seeing the so called changes sad sad franchise needs a lot of work pretty much read every comment other than mine other than the idiot saying get rid of franchise mode altogether then DO WHAT UR FANBASE TELLS U GIVE THEM PERSONALITYS MAKE ALL THESE SUGGESTIONS ALONG WITH MINE, heres mine give us practice squads undrafted free agents lets make preseason useful for once and, also for once let a players stats dictate his progression instead of this autamatic well he wont be an elite player till hes 28-29 cause thats not realistic look at todays ratings of top position players and their age
  • Kevy Kev
I mistakenly removed myself from my franchise using at EASportsWorld site... I clicked the "Leave Franchise" button thinking that it would return me to the main madden page... NOPE! it removed me from the league... If the commissioner sends me another invite, will I be able to rejoin?

In my opinion Madden 09 for PS3 dropped the ball when it comes to the francise mode. How the hell do you forget about player progressions after it was in madden 08, i played 3 seasons in franchise mode and 3 superbowls later, everyone was the same rating, that's outrageous. Not to mention that there's basically no owners mode offseason, where did all the rebuild, renovate, rename stadium features go, no newspaper or radio, are you kidding me? They were so busy with the graphics and the VIRTUAL TRAINING features, that they completely forgot about the simple things that made franchise mode awesome. As far as i'm concerned, all that had to be done was take madden 08 for ps2 and give it ps3 and x360 graphics, but no, in an attempt to completely change the game, things went too far, the game didn't even use the maximum capabilities of the ps3 of 360, I hope EA learns this lesson and doesn't make the same mistake to Madden 10, or they will see sales drop, i've learned my lesson, i wont automatically buy the next Madden like i always do, for the first time ever, i'm renting it first, and i suggest others do the same.
-Oh and i forgot, could you please, for the love of god, show which direction the wind is blowing during gameplay, i constantly go for a fg then realize the wind is in the wrong direction b4 i call a timeout and punt.
  • Zeke
Also - in 09, you do have holdouts and people who refuse to re-sign. For a challenge I just picked up the bottom team in the league to see how fast I could turn it around. Three star players refused to re-sign no matter what - I franchised one of them, but had to lose the other two.

The tweaks mentioned should address lifetime heros that rarely drop and such - but for those that beg for reality - would you be happy when a game end and none of your stars had good stats and the score was 3-0? Why not - it happens in real games. What about when your star WR shoots his own leg and goes to jail or your QB makes a face print into a Buick while riding his motorcycle? I don't think EA wants to get into the defamation suits here - so they can only do that with generic rookies years down the road in franchise mode -- otherwise we're stuck with maybe just more random "hyper-extended knee injuries" -- It would be nice to have one or two stars each year randomly go batsh!t crazy and get arrested... realism, yeah..
  • jarule
looks like online gonna suck again this year. no point in buying if you play online. maybe next year they'll address all the same online glitches that has been there for years. like the pause and dc glitch. it will be a new feature next year.
  • haha
yea right player progression was promised last year. the draft wasnt improved and scouting was a waste. players came out as 96 overalls. that is realistic.
  • OTG
I hope they add a OVR limit for rookies coming in (around 85 max) and having it so OVR ranking is based on where they're drafted and not just on stats. Let the progression/degression affect their stats within the first few seasons. A good example is even though I made Aaron Curry a 99 OVR in NCAA and then had him imported he was projected as a 3rd rounder and was only a 71 OVR in Madden 09 when drafted 3rd overall. I mean wtf lol.
  • Julian
I agree. Although i think it should be a mixture of both. Where a player is drafted AND his stats should be the factors on rating. Tim Tebow is always a 98 in his rookie season. Even if he has a bad rookie season, his progression keeps going up insane amounts.

I hope they stay true to incorporate gems into the draft as well. Id love to get a few 6th and 7th round studs every once in awhile
  • Guru
That would be so awesome.......Be able to basically build a new stadium......and they should make u able to name it after the original....if not, at least be able to IMPROVE stadia conditions
  • KRIS
u ppl really should have played head coach. the same guys who worked on that r working on this years madden so most if not all of ur concerns will be resolved. teams just do not trade certain ppl in head coach loke manning or brady and if they do u gotta give up a hell of a lot of shizz. im sure if cpu teams play how they did in head coach franchise will be damn good
  • KRIS
u right man. the presentation is horrible and has been for 4 years but it seems like theyre improving on it. but one thing that i did in previous maddens was switch the ball to the hand closest to the sideline. now u cant do that. that needs to be re-implament into the game. the stiff arms suck ass right now
  • Scott
    FAIL
  • Riddyck
About realeasing players, or not resigning with them, it's on the game, try reading the options when you creat a new franchise game (or while at your franchise), something like "Let CPU re-sign players". Just turni it off. That's it, you got your wish on madden 09 already!

And about CPU trades, there's reason to be concerned. If it happens, there should be at least a little bit of AI. We don't want the Colts trading Peyton Manning, for whatever they get, even if it is like 5 first round picks...
  • Looking forward to it. Franchise is where it is at for me so I like what I am hearing so far. Online play for me was hit or miss. Some guys play sim and the game is fair, when others cheese and use exploits the whole game. The people that care too much about their online records are the ones that ruin the online experience for me because most of those guys cheat or cheese to win. Like your online record counts for anything. Unranked matches usually give me the best online games or games with my friends here at the house on the same console.

Bottom line, out of all of the blogs this one gets my attention the most and I cant wait to see the improvements.
  • that would be a sick franchise mode in store looks like its shapeing to be a great game hopefullly its not a bust
  • Anthony
I hope you can build a new stadium for any team without having to relocate. You used to be able to do this on all the maddens on PS2
  • Guru
WOW!!!!! are they finally listening to us madden degenerates????!!!!!!!!!!!!! I like what they're doing...looks like Drafting is ACTUALLY going to be interesting...as is scouting...
  • Your doing a good job Pasta keep it up. Any word on another Head Coach game?
  • In response to you Julian here is my take. There are a lot of studies in the NFL that basically proves that when a RB hits 30 his production dramatically decreases. So even though Westbrook is a great all around back history shows that he will start to deteriorate in regards to his production (especially when you take into consideration his degenerative knee).

As far as the franchise tag the only time I seen it work in Madden is for a 90's rated fullback. Instead of paying him 2-3 million u can tag him for 1.5-1.7 million. So yeah if this is the only way for it to be effective the system is broken. What's funny is that they use to have hold outs and players who refused to resign with you. Do remember Madden 06? That was when the players had personalities now every single player is happy beyond imagination ..........even T.O.

Also you use to be able to trade for a restricted free agent form a team with draft picks depending on their team's off season tender. Remember Madden 06 again?

Yeah the off-season FA really is no competition as anybody would sign with you because you have loads of cash. You could have Tom Brady and Payton Manning will sign with your team as a back up and join the happy club ridding the bench for years. If they included personalities as before there would be no way a stater would come in as a free agent to be a backup.

Another thing. Why don't players who are unhappy ask for trades? Maybe even go as far to specify teams they would like to be traded to that would best fit their needs? You know, like in THE REAL NFL! Julius Peppers again is my example. The man does not simply care only about money, he wants something specific. He gave a list of teams he would like to be dealt to. That would be a great addition to the game.

If a certain receiver isn't getting the amount of touches he wants, or a RB wants to be a starter, they should be able to ask for trades.
  • It would be nice to add more connectivity for online leagues but I'm a offline franchise player myself and like that facet to be taken care of 1st before moving on with other issues including graphics.
  • blake.
Free Agency needs to be fixed for sure, I've also found that other teams don't go after FA's until I try to sign them. I have to try to sign every FA to have an active one.
  • Julian
Yeh, no real competition either to sign someone. Definitely no bidding wars. Re-signing players, FA, and the draft are by far the biggest issues with Madden. Which sadly is everything in Franchise mode.

I feel like the franchise tag being implemented properly would be HUGE. Some players simply just dont want to re-sign with their current teams. They shouldnt automatically be resigned just because the team has the cap space. Take Julius Peppers for instance. I personally might be willing to send 2 first round picks over for him if the game actually knew how to do that. That is the whole purpose of tags.
  • jets sucksuck suck
hs a corner in madden ever got an int but his armwent all the way backwards and he still caught it with both hands

please do not read this send this to 3 friends or tickle me elmo will make you a potato sandwich and then grap a piano and put a lemon on it
  • KRIS
    huh?
  • Julian
Hmm, the thing about Running Backs going downhill as soon as they hit age 30 scares me. This to me sounds too drastic. Brian Westbrook turns 30 this season. Does that mean they are going to turn him into a bum?

I hope they go into a bit more detail on re-signing players. There is NO REASON to franchise tag a player in Madden for the past 3 years. It is useless in the game. During this period you also have no ability to just flat out RELEASE a player. You can resign all the players you want, then have to sim through and hope they cut the players you didn't resign.

There needs to be situations where players say they simply don't want to resign and test the FA market. Such as Albert Haynesworth did. This gives purpose to the franchise tag. However, in the game, the Titans could resign Haynesworth right away and he would never see the FA market. Point being, a lot of high profile players never get to see the FA market in Madden due to lack of REALITY.

If a player gets franchised, other teams should still be able to grab that player if they are willing to give up the required draft picks. You should be able to at least use draft picks from the upcoming season to negotiate deals.

Look at the Jay Cutler trade. There is no way to make that trade in the game. You aren't aloud to see your drafts picks for the following year until the off season is over with. We should be able to make trades like this.

On the other side of things, CPU teams should make intelligent trades amongst themselves. There needs to be a feeling of REALITY in the franchise modes. It truly feels like you are the only real team doing anything or making big deals.
  • If there are no chain gangs, refs or players on the sideline with durags, this game will be garbage ::rolls eyes::
  • KRIS
did u not see the privious posts?????
  • Dre
Glad to see that they are taking a lot of what we post online serious. I hope they address the stiff arm issue where he doesn't change hands with the ball and his arm hangs like it's broken @ the point of contact with the defensive player. I also want to know about the presentation when you win something significant. I want my Super Bowl win to mean something when I win it among other big games. If some people don't want to see the pre-game and things like that it should be a option to turn it off in the option menu. Not everybody jas internet or likes playing people online so we should @ least have that option for us or whoever wants it.
  • Ty
I agree with that 100%. If you look at Calvin Johnson, He is bulkish but lanky for a Reciever. In Madden he looks like a 6'5" Anemic person.
