Madden 10 Franchise Mode Improvements

Another Monday brings a new Inside EA Blog for Madden 10. This time it is franchise mode that is being spotlighted. The post is done by Josh Looman who was the lead designer for NFL Head Coach 09 and moved over to Madden for this year. Detailed in the blog are areas such as offseason player signing logic, the draft, and player progression. You can check out the full posting here.

Since our ‘foundation’ is the logic behind every decision made in franchise mode, we knew we really wanted to address that foundation before anything else major was applied. I know some folks may be expecting the entire NFL Head Coach ’09 game to be dropped into Madden this year, but that’s not going to happen. We have a lot of work to do and it’s going to take us some time to start with the core of franchise mode and take it where we all want it to be.

I'll believe when I see it, while I am meticulously recreating the first season running a 32 team franchise and waiting for the draft after changing the ratings in NCAA, fine tuning the rosters in order to get accurate draft classes, wasting countless hours of my life, and then finding every single Free Agent signing and putting them on their respective teams to be able to play a Quasi-Madden 10.

It could be a lot more fun, most notably the retarded ass drafting of 3 QB's in the first 3 rounds even though peyton manning is on the team, and the complete lack of simulation for OLB's getting sacks in a 3-4. If those 2 are fixed I will be fine, I would rather have that than any visual displays.

I still wish it was done a lot better.

I'm with you I'm actually bigger on the "sim" factor of the game then as to the gameplay.

I read the article, and it said that NCAA Football 10 was not going to have the new Passer Ratings. I guess that when people said NCAA was just Madden 9.5, they were right. :@

Do away with FM. Focus on the online please.

    • Dre

That would be dumb to do away with Franchise since not all people have internet and can play online. You have to think before you type Madden maybe has more offline players playing and buying the game than people who actually play online.

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/r00tabaga r00tabaga

Playing the cpu is boring and predictable……..online for me too.

      gameplay 1st…….online 2nd…….franchise 4th………………………..more options 3rd I guess!

    • ea pasta

look at the polls only about 20% play mostly online, over 50% play mostly offline franchise, if they implemented offline franchise into online franchise that number would go up, but I doubt it would surpass the number of people that would still play mostly offline franchise.

      • Jediangel

We need an online franchise mode, like NCAA's Dynesty mode. You can have your games against the computer and games with your friends. It makes for good competition and to see who can come up with the most dominant team. I think it is the best of both worlds.

    • C&TPC

You have got to be kidding! They'd lose so much $ by doing away with with franchise mode. Way too many people play offline franchise. I wasn't going to buy it. If they fix franchise mode, I might go buy it. It's the only thing I play on that game.

    Two suggestions:
-How come a 3-4 DE has the same rating than a 4-3 DE in the game? Same with LBs and DTs, ratings should vary depending on each team's scheme. Also, scheme's should be easier to change. Those are the things head coaches do when they are hired!
-A player's improvement should not only be based on his age but also in his experience in the league; not only his years playing but also how much has he played. Miami's John Beck is almost 30 and he's been in the league for a couple of years! And a 30 year old running back should not have his ratings decreased if he hasn't had more than 10 carries a year, or am I wrong?

Do away with the online and keep goinn with offline franchise… then take the offline franchise and put it online (even though I could care less)

A nice blog but nothing to get me excited… I'm more like "it's about time", crossing my fingers that this game will make me go out and but it this year

from the sounds of that blog its gonna be very similiar to head coach. THANK GOD!!!! i actually liked how head coach worked as a matter of fact i played head coach more than madden and still am. the player progression and digression from that game was great! when u cat players in head coach it actually makes sense….they r getting paid more than how theyre performing. but in madden a 36 year demarcus ware performs the same as a 24 year old demarcus ware. so teams would like stay the same over like ten years therfore it became boring real quick. keep it commin EA this has to be a completely different madden team cuz these guys actuallt CARE!

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/Mr_EA_Sports Mr_EA_Sports

Exactly. how about when in 10 years half the league is rated 85 and above. It's interesting that he brought up the cutting a star QB issue because I see this time to time. Usually when the CPU does it I just sign the player to a no bonus contract and trade him back to his respective team.

ALSOOO! have you seen the rookie salaries? A 1st rounder wins like 7 million dollars his first year, you are basically forced to sign him for 7 years (the 7th year he wins like 21 millions), a 2nd rounder like 5 million dollars a year! And so on…(it happens with NCAA imported draft classes)

More Fluff to distract us from the reality that this is going to be another bad game this year!! LOL think about it they are talking about player signings, when you can just take control of all the teams and do everything yourself!! wow,are we supposed to be idiots?? or how about like i do turn off the salary cap humm, problem solved!!

like i said, more distractions from the real deal!! what about a pregame, haltime & postgame show?? by happenstance was done 5 or 6 games ago on xbox & ps2 by 2K SPORTS!! EA has still said nothing about subsitution packages. i guess that's not apart of football in EA's world

    • KRIS

u gotta wait for info like that.

WOW, how about making players their correct size. Look at Haloti Ngata on the game and then in real life. He looks like a LB in the game, but he's huge in reality.

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/Mr_EA_Sports Mr_EA_Sports

Yeah i noticed that as well they have Patterson from the Eagles a bit skinny too. If they open up the player edit they can just let the gamer make the final tweaks.

Glad to see that they are taking a lot of what we post online serious. I hope they address the stiff arm issue where he doesn't change hands with the ball and his arm hangs like it's broken @ the point of contact with the defensive player. I also want to know about the presentation when you win something significant. I want my Super Bowl win to mean something when I win it among other big games. If some people don't want to see the pre-game and things like that it should be a option to turn it off in the option menu. Not everybody jas internet or likes playing people online so we should @ least have that option for us or whoever wants it.

    • Ty

I agree with that 100%. If you look at Calvin Johnson, He is bulkish but lanky for a Reciever. In Madden he looks like a 6'5" Anemic person.

Hmm, the thing about Running Backs going downhill as soon as they hit age 30 scares me. This to me sounds too drastic. Brian Westbrook turns 30 this season. Does that mean they are going to turn him into a bum?

I hope they go into a bit more detail on re-signing players. There is NO REASON to franchise tag a player in Madden for the past 3 years. It is useless in the game. During this period you also have no ability to just flat out RELEASE a player. You can resign all the players you want, then have to sim through and hope they cut the players you didn't resign.

There needs to be situations where players say they simply don't want to resign and test the FA market. Such as Albert Haynesworth did. This gives purpose to the franchise tag. However, in the game, the Titans could resign Haynesworth right away and he would never see the FA market. Point being, a lot of high profile players never get to see the FA market in Madden due to lack of REALITY.

If a player gets franchised, other teams should still be able to grab that player if they are willing to give up the required draft picks. You should be able to at least use draft picks from the upcoming season to negotiate deals.

Look at the Jay Cutler trade. There is no way to make that trade in the game. You aren't aloud to see your drafts picks for the following year until the off season is over with. We should be able to make trades like this.

On the other side of things, CPU teams should make intelligent trades amongst themselves. There needs to be a feeling of REALITY in the franchise modes. It truly feels like you are the only real team doing anything or making big deals.

Free Agency needs to be fixed for sure, I've also found that other teams don't go after FA's until I try to sign them. I have to try to sign every FA to have an active one.

    • Julian

Yeh, no real competition either to sign someone. Definitely no bidding wars. Re-signing players, FA, and the draft are by far the biggest issues with Madden. Which sadly is everything in Franchise mode.

I feel like the franchise tag being implemented properly would be HUGE. Some players simply just dont want to re-sign with their current teams. They shouldnt automatically be resigned just because the team has the cap space. Take Julius Peppers for instance. I personally might be willing to send 2 first round picks over for him if the game actually knew how to do that. That is the whole purpose of tags.
