While this month’s edition of Gamepro is advertised as being the “first hands-on” preview of Madden 10 and from that it has delivered some new information. Copies are reaching subscribers and stores providing an opportunity to find out some new details about the game. Much of the preview goes over Pro-Tak and the graphical enhancements such as depth of field but there are some other interesting mentions.

  • There is a new injury system this year that adds a strategical element. The choice will be given to place an injured player back in the game or hold them out. Of course putting them back in will risk more severe injury.
  • Custom QB throwing-style animations
  • Players talking to each other on the sidelines, kickers warming up with the nets, players on exercise bikes, and fans bundling up in cold weather situations.
  • QBs can now throw passes into the dirt rather than just chucking it out of bounds.
  • Game speed has been slowed down by about 10%.
  • Madden IQ remains however it will be something calculated primarily in the background as opposed to the intrusive nature of last year.

Okay it sounds good but let's go through the checklist

1)injury system: done before on PS one-use to be able to play hurt players, they even had a bandage on their injury

2)custom throwing styles: Done before PS One- the only thing they could do is add more

3)players warming up: Done before PS2- use to have players stretching before games

4)Dirt passes: kinda done before-have to see if this applies to screen passes and short passes

5)Game Speed changes: Done before-use to have sliders before the mega monopoly of EA

6)Madden IQ in background: really who cares? I bet they promote this as a feature though LOL

EA we need new material not reheated leftovers it's to time to devote some energy into the offensive line and stop all QB's from playing like Joe Montana. Allow rookies to get shaking up due to inexperience and stop this love fest with making speed players the best players. Why do DE's WALK AROUND offensive tackles? Why do players never get tired on the football field,?even if they are in the red they have the same speed. Why is Chaz Schilens a top 10 WR? He is a lame player in the NFL but EA stacked his ratings except AWR a dirty little secret to make players better than what they really are. Why can't the O-Line sustain blocks? EA stop patching a broken product with band-aids it's time to revamp and build up from scratch. Take a year off and start over

I agree. It is funny that people spend so much time bashing instead of appreciating.

99.9% of the people who bash don't have the skills to develop a game. For the .1% that can, if they don't like it, develop a better product.

I like the fact that EA is bringing back and implementing new forms of presentation (WHICH IS WHAT EVERYONE HAS BEGGED FOR).

I agree that next-gen games should have everything that the past-gen games had but people need to start appreciating what they have, not what they want….

I'm not complaining just to complain I have legitimate gripes. If I had a bag of donuts that i was selling then froze them for 5 years and then bring them out and advertise them as fresh and new. Is this fair for the customers? No, and what EA has done with Madden isn't fair either. If they are bringing something back don't promote it as new. How many times over the years where you upset because they took out a facet that was previously in the game? Keep it real!

There you go with the developers side again. Do you like being flunky? How much does it pay? My bad for not choosing to develop games for a living I was too busy protecting the country from people who don't play games and play for keeps. I think my job is harder by the way just my opinion. I bet you that I could do their job better than they do mine after all I'm doing a job that only 1% of people in my occupation can do.

Bad analogy with the donuts. How about if they took away your donuts for years, and now made you new fresh donuts that you have been craving the whole time. Yea, shit should have never gone away, but it did for whatever reason, and now its back, be happy as long as it works. I know your have been getting burned for years, as we all have, but damn, your bitching about them bringing back stuff you want. …I dont get it.

I am an optimist, a glass half full kinda guy. I dont live like you, hatin' on everything that doesnt happen how you want it. I am glad that EA is bringing back the features we love most. If EA would have just stopped making madden on NextGen until they got it right, you would have bitched too. It's not like how Halo and other games that get 3 years of development, EA had to develop a game in 9 months, while learning an entirely new format and knowing what is possible. You dont get anywhere without trial and error, and thats called Madden 06-09. Yea it's been a long shitty wait. But damn, have a little faith, or get the f*ck outa here, cuz nobody wants to hear you complain… peace poo diddly!

Yo sikhawks memo to brain. people pay for this game so they should get what they pay for and that is a high quality game. its not like ea gives us the game for free. when that would happen(like never!) then we will appreciate anything they put out! But as long as you have consumers who demand better just as with anything you buy that is how it is going to be. With that said i am satisfied with the information ea is putting out in the game and how much they have listened to the gamers! This game is sounding like it will be one of the greatest maddens of all time and i hope it will be.

I think you are just a bad madden player if you really think Schillens is a top 10 WR, seriously he is good for rocket catching but he isn't great. There are plenty of guys who are better than him. As for the Oline "walk around"" problem, maybe you should actually pay attention because this problem has already been adressed. As for the oline sustaining blocks maybe you just suck because I take an average of one and a half sacks per game, that is about the average for the NFL and I'm using 52 speed Kurt Warner. Blocking in the running game is all about the use of the sprint button. If you slam it all day the defense will stack and shed all day but if you were to read your blocks and burst through the hole when you get into it you'd be fine, its actually the same way in real football. But why would you know anything about that?

Actually I'm not a bad Madden online player I just have my gripes. It's still a free country isn't it? Why settle for good when Madden can be great? As for the blocking CHEF91 yes it does suck try running a sweep with a lead blocker only to have him turn around and block a player you just passed with a defender directly in front of you. but you probably don't know that because you use the FB run cheese all day. Some of us try to play the correct way sometimes ya know. But I gave up the right way after the developers didn't put the effort to simulate "real" football so now I cheese all game.

Onsides kicks, rocket catches, FB run no huddle I will cheese all game because this is the game they made an ARCADE game not a simulation game.

The point is that any additions to madden are great. Stop being a cynical bitch and just embrace the changes that are being made instead of whining about shit like some little bitch. You act as if you have some sense of entitlement when it comes to this game. Its a product just like anything else you buy. Either you value it or you don't. So kindly STFU, relax and wait for the game to drop, then whine like a little bitch.

You Know you're a Madden Addict when

1)you have a hard time playing franchise because every recent transaction you see you want to include in your franchise so you keep starting over and over

2)When you get upset with the designers for not giving more detail to your favorite player's gear

3)When you notice the weight loss on specific players and feel that this ruins the experience

4)When you scribble down on paper and create a draft plan of who you will draft in franchise mode

5)When you take it personal that that your favorite player who just had a big game didn't receive a rating boost in the roster update

6)When you play online with different accounts to use your 200 game experience to crush some opponent who thinks that you are a newbie with a 0-0 record

7)When you are getting blown out in an online game and somehow the connection goes dead…hmm

8)When you can't handle a lost online and send a text to your opponent about how he really played your little brother and that he could never beat you, then you go off taking about his mama and why he needs to give you a rematch

9)When you joined about 30 online leagues and have yet to finish

    10) When after the NFL season is over you create rookies and update free agent signings to look like the upcoming year rosters

With them bringing back all that was good in previous years, and implementing these new features, this game really has a chance to become the greatest football simulation ever. Even last year EA was saying that they were waiting til Madden 10 as the game they were really working at being the greatest. Shit wasnt ready last year, as in previous years.

The trial and error of previous years is culminating in to the best sports game ever in Madden 10!

So far, I like a lot of what I'm seeing from Madden 10. People have all the right to bash a game if they don't like it. It is, after all, a free country, last time I checked. EA doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt anymore. Sorry, but that's just the truth. They have let the hardcore football fan (not football gamer) down for the past 3 years on next-gen. I'm taking the wait and see approach. I'm not going to bash previous installments of the game, because that would be too easy and frankly redundant at this point.

We all want the same thing (generally speaking). I want an as true to life game as possible. I believe that's called sim? I know a few gamers out there don't really want that because they don't see the fun or beautiful of a defense struggle that ends 10-7. They don't get that rushing for 100 yrds a game is hard, real hard. Passing for 300 yrds is really, really hard in the NFL. So yes, I think we need to be more on the constructive side of critisim at this point. Bashing previous games is kinda moot right about now.

whats the point of bashing a game? i get constructive critisism because that leads to a better understanding of what the game really should be and people wil listen to that but when you bash a game, its basically a big fuck you to the developers and the real fans and then what. why the fuck would they want to improve the game for you?

There is no point. There doesn't have to be. If somebody spends $60 on a product, be it a game or anything else, and they don't feel they got their moneies worth, than they have the right to complain about it to the manufacturer. Whether or not the manufacturer cares enough to do something is a different story. Keep in mind that we're talking about a game here. In the grand scheme of things, it really doesn't matter if somebody bashes a game or not. The point is just as you have the right to defend whatever your point of view is, others have the right to express theirs. If you don't like what they say than tough cookies, it's the price you pay for living in a free country. Besides, to put it in your contexts, I don't feel bashing their game is any bigger of a fuck you to the developers than they've given the folks who have been completely disappointed by the last few games after they become the only show in town.

Have QB throwing styles been in the game before? I thought they had overhand, sidearm, and underarm? Maybe they will add two more and they will be real generic looking. I doubt they will have a "signature style" EA is too lame for something cool like that.

What about signature running animations? They started it in Madden 07 but they seemed to go away from that in the past couple years. Brandon Jacobs shouldn't be able to do the same juke moves as Adrian Peterson like he was able to do in 09. I hope they don't just stop with Qb throwing styles.

http://www.operationsports.com Look at updated run animation. It is a running animation for Dustin Keller. It looks a like more realistic, like a tight end ready to run a fool over. This year madden is gonna be good. Real Talk!

Hopefully with game speed slowed down, it doesn't make the game too easy. I like the injury system implementation. I hope NCAA improves their injury management.

To be honest this Madden does sound good but my complaint wasn't how this Madden would be improved it was about serving the same stuff then adding previous elements and selling them as if they were new. It's 2009 it is time to be blown away. Look at iPod even though they add a few things every 6 months the new iPod Touch is off the hook. Madden is a billion dollar business they need to start acting like it.

The information they are putting out sound good and the screen shots look good too but they better deliver on the August release date if not then last year's 60 bucks I spent will be the last for this franchise

…finally a comment I can somewhat agree with. But hey, however it was in the past, I am just soo glad that we are finally getting what we wanted. This game has the potential to be the best one yet!

Now just give us custom playbooks and sub packages and I will be happy as sh!t…

There's something wrong with your thought processes. Obviously they're going to market it if it wasn't in the past few years…otherwise they're not marketing well. You're nitpicking one blog out of countless others about this year's version, and you even admit it sounds good…so what the hell?

Your analogies are awful too by the way. You can't just compare anything that changed to anything else. People say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, but then time and time again I read some of the most idiotic analogies possible on the internet.

Yeah, I remember playing Madden NFL 06 on XBOX 360. I was like the only thing different is the graphics. But Madden 06 on PS2/GC/XBOX is better in gameplay in 06.

I just want them to change the Franchise so when I adjust the sliders for my running backs in simulation to 50-50 my backup will actually get a carry. I pisses me off when at the end of the season my #1 running back has all the yards when its 50 but the next year even my QB has more yards rushing and about 5 WR's when I switch back to 90-10 my back up gets at least 300 yards rushing.

Is anyone having problem that they have yet to talking about online leagues or online franchise. Dont get me wrong I like the the tweks but i would call them not new features. I have sim style football if madden trying proclaim there all about being real. then give the fan what they want. not just some fan service and say were working on it. Let be real the problem is you really cant make leaps in stride in one year. madden should be release every other year in my personal opinion and on the off years just do downloadable content updates.
what do we ask every year
    REAL ONLINE LEAGUES
    REAL ONLINE FRANCHISE
    REAL HALFTIME SHOW
    REAL POST GAME SHOW
but what do we get ?oh they put the net back up the ref are on the field excuse me but that was in last gen so tell me where is the leap were waiting for. This why EA should not have the sole license competition always brings out better performance. Screw the wildcat get what i really want sim football
