Madden 10 Franchise Q&A

Last week we got a Q&A about the Online Franchise mode in Madden 10. This week brings a general Franchise mode Q&A that goes into more of the basics of what has been worked on. You can read through the entire blog posting here.

As I’ve mentioned before my goal was to clean up the logic and get this mode back to where it needed to be. I’ll repeat my favorite analogy for those of you who haven’t heard it before: If you found out you had termites in your house, would you build on another addition or clean up the foundation so that you could build on the house in the future? That was exactly our attitude and my sole focus since I joined the Madden team halfway through the development cycle. I enlisted the help of one of my top programmers from NFL Head Coach ’09 (Jeff Keyek) and worked with the rest of the Madden team to address many of the core aspects of the mode that really needed fixing.

While there may be a lack of revolutionary additions to the mode (outside of the interface redesign) it seems as though they’ve been able to accomplish a good deal in getting the base of it to where it should be. It is just unfortunate that many of those areas that have been addressed such as free agency and trade logic won’t come into play in the Online Franchises.

I recall asking whether HC09 would somehow be integrated with Madden as far as the franchise mode, which it was not. But at least for Madden10, it looks like they're replacing some clunky franchise mode features with a better workflow and feature set like they had in HC.

Overall though, it's too bad that they didn't drop more HC stuff into Madden 10. I really love playing that game, and would kill for more head coaching control.

This is the most pumped I have been for Madden in a few years. Things are looking positive. All the vids I have seen look great. The visuals and presentation have definitely been amped…

yeah mate its gonna be refreshing to have an entirely new looking game, coz 08 and 09 we practically the same, although the in game improvements were pretty big, but yeah madden 10 is looking unreal from wat ive seen so far, im just hoping theyre leaving a few things underwraps for us so that when we get the game there will be some suprises

I was wondering how they addressed the imported draft classes. In previous years, great players in college would be drafted as 90s, 92s with some freakishly good stats for a rookie.

You know when you look back on Madden games you see a lot of features that were left out of future additions. Like Coaching changes, QB Vision, Personalities, Halftime highlights, Holdouts, Trade Requests, up field blocking controls and probably a few others that I can't think of right now

Depends on your definition of "future" picks. You can only trade picks in the upcoming (technically future) draft. You will NOT bea bale to make a trade like the Cutler deal where you trade a 1st and 3rd this year and a 1st NEXT year.

I can't wait for this game, I've been clamoring for a great new franchise mode because it hasn't seen this kind of improvement since it hit this gen. If anything, the new spread out ratings system is going to make franchise that much better. Bye bye social life (except when the Bears play )

Wow, the franchise interface looks sick. There's no doubt that Madden stepped up with franchise, now if only they can do the same with the actual gameplay, we'll be getting somewhere. Unfortunately, football games are multi-faceted, so if any of the variables are off, it can ruin the entire game. I have hopes that the gameplay will be better than what we've seen so far in previews and hopefully they will take these last two months to fine tune and polish the game. I'm really hoping this will be the year that I can hold on to Madden for longer than a month before trading it in. Oh yeah…no pre-orders here. I'm not falling for that again.

These really arent small improvements, they are huge! Some of these litle "nit pick" items that they fixed ruined franchise for some people. This year is so bad ass so far…..BELIEVE the hype! yeah there might be a few patches as usual after launch but this game has me fired up.

When I first heard about it, I was like "HOLY SH!T!! They're bringing other games highlights back!!" Then I realized it was just another way too show stats from other games, Week MVPs… nothing more than what was in the game before.
Damn, they had highlights 15 years ago… and in 2K5. Can't we have them now?!?

I have always enjoyed offline franchise. If you try to treat it as a actual simulation and not try to take advantage of the CPU it can be quite enjoyable. Now that they have fix some of the logic in this mode I can see myself playing more without the need to hold back. I still would like to see personalities enter back into this mode and past decisions factor into whether a free agent will sign or resign with your club. Back in 2004 they had these implemented in the game then for some reason took them out. I would also like to see the return of QB Vision but I think that has died out because it was supposedly too hard for novices.
