The Latest Madden 10 Previews

As various media sites have received beta copies of Madden 10 it appears that today one level of an embargo has been lifted. Two previews worth checking out have gone up so far today. Over at Operation Sports there is an extensive breakdown with general impressions of the game. Meanwhile Gamespot’s Brian Ekberg provides insight into the Online Co-Op experience and provides some early thoughts about the Online Franchise.

Reading through the Gamespot blog it confirms that essentially, just as the IGN preview and videos made apparent last week, the Co-Op looks to be an empty and unrewarding mode this year. I don’t even see how they can sell this as a way to learn Madden given the differences in how it is played compared to the traditional game. Again though I think this was just the groundwork for a 3vs3 or 4vs4 Online Team Play type mode to come in Madden 10.

Eckberg also notes that Online Franchise will require a code found in new copies of the game and shows off a couple of screenshots of the iPhone app. Noted are some of the drawbacks such as no salary cap and restricted trading options. Hopefully since the mode is run server side areas that are lacking will be improved upon around release or during the course of the year. I suspect just as Online Dynasty did for NCAA Football 09, Online Franchise will extend the life of Madden longer for many people than ever before. Given that EA should be there to support it.

I can't wait for this game!! I have a feeling it'll be the Best Sports game of this decade (yes that means better than 2k5) Online Franchise will be awesome! Off-L:ine franchise will be the shizz! finally fun enough to play more than two seasons. I think i'll actually be able to get more then 20 yards rushing playin on all-madden!!

Dunno if it can top MLB 09 (or 10), but I am glad they are borrowing a page from the "little things" book they were inspired from SCEA San Diego! The more the better. I am excited as well, and that has been a while for a Madden game with me.

hey pasta could you honestly say that they have been looking at 2k football while making this cause there are alot of similar things in madden…cut scenes player models etc….only if they fix the play by play …those two guys are really boring i kinda miss the radio guy ..next year they need 3 guys in the booth instead of two ..

I see this as the only way to maybe not eliminate, but certainly cut down on the cheesers significantly. I hope they go with 4 vs 4 online franchise next year. I know I'm getting ahead because 10 hasn't even come out yet, but the biggest thing I hate about online play now is having to rely too much on the AI defense, which usually gets completely exploited with a money play or two. Having to play against 4 human controlled players would finally level out the playing field and to mention be freak'n awesome!

Seems like almost everyone has drank the Madden KoolAid. Everyone complains about any minor detail that is wrong with NCAA but when Madden has flaws all you hear is – Sweet!, Can't wait dude!, I'm going to cream my pants Bro! The fact there is no salary cap is terrible – it's going to be unrealistic, but let's pretend we don't see that. Everyone was oohing and aahing over Co-op when word came out. Everyone's bitching why NCAA doesn't improve to get features like those. Now we find out co-op is a sham and just a couple people bitch. if people could only criticize madden like they do ncaa then maybe we wouldn't be getting these crap upgrades in Madden's. they have more money to put into it and we get this

I have absolutely no interest in online coop; Never had and never will. For me madden is all about the single player experience and the 1v1 online experience.

I was excited about this game, but there's no point in playing it, since I'm unlikely to play OF with those restrictions in place. And, as a single user offline game, it better have enough new gameplay there to make it worthwhile.
