No Madden 10 Roster Update This Week

There will be no Madden 10 roster update this week according to Donny Moore. The message left in the rosters and ratings forum below announced this earlier today.

We don’t like to react prematurely to performance issues so we don’t plan to update the rosters this week. We will be back next week with a comprehensive update that includes key performance changes as well as any major depth chart adjustments. Looking ahead, we plan to update the rosters as needed throughout NFL season. Expect several updates per month as we evaluate player and team performance each week. Feel free to give me feedback via the forums or through Twitter to help shape the final roster.

The idea that ratings changes shouldn’t be made because of the opening week really doesn’t fly though. I don’t think many people would be asking for or expecting changes based solely on one game. However there are players who went into the season over or under rated or with big question marks surrounding them and solidified those opinions with their performances in week one. Jake Delhomme is a great example of that. Should he have been an 80 going into the season which puts him as better than 13 other team’s starting QBs? After week one the answer there is clear as he is only starting out of necessity. Then you have significant injuries such as the loss of Brian Urlacher for the season that will not be represented in the game until the next update comes.

The consistency of weekly roster updates is important and “as needed” has such vague meaning that there could be several different opinions on when an update would be “needed” vs when it wouldn’t be deemed the changes weren’t important enough. The message from Donny Moore is contradicting in that is mentions several updates per month and evaluations on a weekly basis but also states they will be “as needed”. Producing the updates weekly not only makes it easier to keep up with the changes but also provides more accurate rosters throughout the season.

People may seem like there bitching but there really just paying more attension to detail then Ea is right now. I’ll give you a few examples, see alot of people would do these updates themselves but in there are sometimes you can’t, I am missing 3 players on my team one of them has never played the other two have, the one that has not played I dont know what to rate but I know he will be a force becuase he is 6’8″ 310 on defense and coache by Rex Ryan but I cant go to a previous game to make because there is no stats on him. In the case of the other two players Andre Allison I can make he was in the game however Steve Weatherford I cant because Ea didnt give enough space to fit his name in the game I can only get to Weatherfor, you see thats what frustrates people about Madden we know Ea can be better then that, I remeber Roethlisberger first came into the league I had the same problem creating him I could only get to Roelisberg, that frustrated me back then they should have fixed that by now. I understand why Ea wouldnt to alter ratings right now because it will take games then that to figure out the NFL but they could have at least made sure this week they got all transactions done at least, and until people can import rosters from there downloaded roster into there Franchise while being able to keep there same stats so they dont have restart your franchise to get your exact players because you cant create a player in franchise mode either, until then people should challenge Ea and not be told that they are idiot or whatever else because Ea has the capabuillities to fix all this right now and they just haven’t and lots of times these games get old quick because of it unless you have brothers or friends who join you in a season. I still love the game and I like the direction Ian brought it in but all fans know there is alot of room for improvement. Sorry I wrote so much.

That is a well thought out response and I agree with that. I just get tired of reading, "Fuck EA, EA Sucks, blah, blah, blah" because of a roster update that will come in week 2 instead of week 1.

My whole point is that people take for granted that roster updates are even feasible. I just get the sense that no one appreciates what we have access to as gamers and cursing a publisher / developer is ridiculous.

The other thing is people are assuming EA doesn't want to fix this or that. I have never developed a game but who knows how long the process take to fix "simple" things. How do we know that they don't have these issues fixed but need approval from Sony or MS to release the updates?

I understand what you mean by simple fixes are not that simple. But defending EA on this one is not about just the roster updates. My friends and I are up in arms that they do sloppy work on almost all their games. What did they mess up this year in Madden? The online franchise. Sure, it is new and a great idea, but why make it without the salary cap? Salary cap is part of football, it is what separates football from other sports. I like that they incorporated the idea that it is harder for weaker franchises to sign big name FAs or things like that. Make the game a little more realistic. But then they ruin what is the next step (Competing against friends or strangers for the best franchise with your favorite team). If you want to take control of a franchise, then I want the responsibility of the money too. Now with the no roster update, EA looks lazy. I would probably not play Madden if there was another football game to play (I miss NFL 2K5).

I personally think this is a good idea. I actually don't want them updating it until 3 or 4 weeks have gone by. As far as Delhomme goes, he's a veteran QB who's shown he's a good QB in the past. I seriously don't think he deserves to be downgraded much until he shows us that he has truly lost it over the course of a few games.

As much as I, living in Denver, would LOVE to see Jay Cutler downgraded to a "55" for his performance last Sunday night, i'll give him the benefit of the doubt for a few weeks. Everyone can have a shitty game. It doesn't mean they are a shitty player.

I have yet to play a sinlge basketball game that I found enjoyable (besides NBA Jam which is an arcade game more than b-ball game). I can take almost anyplayer in NBA2k9 or live or any other basketball game and score 100points per game with them. That is so far from realistic its stupid. Talk about NBA games in an nba post not here. What a waste

As for all of the people complaining about ratings, just fix them yourself that's what Mo Diddley does before starting any franchise.

Games have cost $50-60 for generations now, and they didn't get updates. EA does not have to update the rosters at all.

I actually dont have an issue with this….weekly, there were instances where players were given high ratings unnecessarily…and these things kind of skewed the experience. Monthly, or Quarterly(in NFL terms)….is much more appropriate.

Pasta, how is it that the Madden team doesn't update the photos when they update the rosters?

There are a lot of guys who made a team who were not expected too before the season that are without their face pics. Just something simple I have been meaning to ask. It's not a game changer for me just kind of interesting that they do not add their pics with the roster update.

Pasta I totally agree with you. How could they just update the roster "as needed"? That would be totally wrong if they just update when they think they should instead of weekly updates. I agree with Mo_Diddlyey also, EA owns the freaking rights to NFL likeness why can't they just upload photos from espn.com? I am sick of seeing generic photos, etc. They need to step up their game.

Or how come ea can’t give us the option of inserting Photoes into the game or updating Stats for player Like Brett Favre and Michael Vick, we can almost change everthing and anything to a player but not those things come on now!

i dont expect roster updates weekly.. but there is some changes that needs to be upd8d! not just stats, also the releasing and signing of new players to other team..

Only thing i wanted to see was the addition of Mario Haggan to the Bronco's. Other then that i'm fine with the Roster the way it is.
