A while back the internet was buzzing when it was rumored Johnny Depp would be playing the Riddler in the next Batman film. Actor Michael Caine, who plays Alfred the butler, has shot down any of those rumors. In an interview with MTV Caine had this to say, “Johnny Depp is great in anything, but there is no Johnny Depp in this Batman. They tell me in no uncertain terms.”

Apparently Caine is done predicting potential cast mates after basically being told to keep his mouth shut. Another detail he reveals in the interview is the next Batman film won’t be done any time soon. “There is nobody, there’s no script, there’s nothing. It can’t possibly be made before 2011 because Inception is such a big picture.”

It’s kind of disappointing to hear there hasn’t been any real movement on the movie, but not surprising. There was a three year period between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. That would make 2011 about the time the next film should come out, but it doesn’t look like that is going to happen.

Whatever the case is I fully trust Nolan to make a great film if he does choose to do another Batman film. We know it won’t have Johnny Depp, but we don’t know when it will be released.
