Braylon Edwards Traded to Jets, Michael Crabtree Signed

Two big transactions took place in the NFL today that will have an impact on the season and on Madden 10. Braylon Edwards has been traded from the Browns to the Jets and Michael Crabtree has finally been signed by the 49ers.

Edwards, who made the Pro Bowl in 2007, has been slumping ever since. Dropped passes have been his main problem but he has also been dealing with a lack of talent around him especially at QB. He becomes the Jets highest rated WR at an 85 which is one point above Jerricho Cotchery. Crabtree started as an 84 in Madden before being removed from the roster. His rating should be moved down into the 70s due to missing training camp, preseason, four games of the regular season, and all the practices in between.

Considering the magnitude of these two developments it seems likely they will be included in this week’s roster update but that has not yet been confirmed. Leave your thoughts in the comments on what you think these moves will mean for the teams and for Madden 10!

Ugghh ..now everyone is going to be using the jets :)
.It completes their offense. it makes them on of the top 10 teams in madden and top 5 in the NFL.

Lol. My Jets are the ish and hopefully, Edwards WILL complete the offense. I'm just more concerned about his off the field mindstate because I know Ryan will whip him into the WR he was SUPPOSED to be when he came in the league.

      J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS, JETS!!!!

Wait…Did they update the rosters??? Madden REALLY needs a DNA system in place like Live….I mean, REEEEEEEEAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLYYYYYYY. Lol.

Ive always used the Jets as well. Its amazing how much better braylon makes sanches in this game… He can go get the bad deep throws and his route running is so bomb. I forgot what its like to have a great fast receiver on the squad..

No doubt dude. I hate all these bandwagon Madden Losers who only play the team that are good instead of their favorite team. I have been playing Madden since the very first one on the Genesis and I have yet to come across Anyone who uses the Jets.

The Jets have and will be my team for life and that is the ONLY team I have and will ever use in Madden whether they are good like now or bad like they have been all these years

    • Hines Ward

lol what if he is not very productive for his team?? i wouldnt use the Jets unless Edwards make some big plays for the Jets. He hasnt made any big plays for the Browns yet.

One of two things are going to happen here, and I tend to think the latter will happen. 1 Ryan gets in his face and motivates him to be the player no other coach has been able to make him so far. He had the same problems with drops in college too and those kind of drops are a sign of mental weakness and lack of focus. It has no bearing on his talent which obviously he has a lot of. 2 Ryan finds that he is quite childish and very selfish and is unable to get throught to him. So intsead he ends up in the dog house ala Keyshawn Johnson and Tampa Bay. I dont know if it will happen this year but I fully expect it to happen. Sanchez is still a rookie and proved it this past week by playing like one and the season isnt going to be the breeze that the first few weeks made it seem like for the JETS. I am a Ryan fan and hope the best for him and his team

wow…. so maybe the jets were tampering with crabtree but when they found out he would sign they went after edwards instead

    • TreyIM2

Not quite true. There were grumblings before the season about Edwards. I think in light of the current Edwards off field turmoil, punching Bron-Brons boy in the eye, and the Browns not doing well, nor did Edwards catch a pass for the first time on Sunday, it made for a perfect storm for the Jets to try again because I'm pretty sure the Browns organization and Mangina (ha) were thinking, "Let's get rid of this damn fool!!" Lol…

Yeah it sure looks suspicious, but they'd have to be really dumb to not realize that if they were actually waiting on the Crabtree situation to settle to decide if they wanted Edwards.

Of course there were some tampering activity going on but it's like my man Denzel Washington said in Training Day "It's not what you know it's what you can prove".

I think it's a good move for both parties. NYJ gets a big WR for Sanchez and CLE receives some compensation. As we all know Edwards was going to walk and CLE wasn't going to waste a franchise tag on him.

As for Crabtree they have to lower some of his attributes as he's not even close to being productive yet. This is good news though as I am about to start my online & offline franchise this Friday.

Mo Diddley the put the HOB on hold to catch up on my franchises-er!

Donny Moore and Pasta aren't the same people. Jerricho's such a bad mofo that the Jets tampered with Crabtree and then eventually settled on the drop-machine from Cleveland eh? And yeah: "production." As in: "Michael Crabtree has no production whatsoever and probably won't play this year because he held out so long." Rookie wideouts tend to get eaten for lunch by NFL CB's even when they put in good work during training camp. This dude has yet to even take practice with his team and you want him to be rated like a pro-bowler?

Speaking of which EA seems a little mixed up on how to rate rookie WRs in the first place. All of the first rounders are ready to step in and start right away huh? DHB's the most glaringly-ridiculous case at 76 but even a Crabtree-level prospect shouldn't come in ready to go to the Pro Bowl. These guys need to go read some Football Outsiders or something, cases like Eddie Royal are the rare exception and generally WRs start out very slow. None of these guys should've been above the low 70's to begin with and Crabtree apologists should feel lucky if he avoids the sixties.

Of course this is the same company that draws up rookie QB's who come in with 80+ AWR and 85 OVR (Chad Gunn) so who knows.

Leave Crabtree stats the way they were. All rookies have to come along and has not done anything on the field to suggest that he isn't as good as advertised. WOW Now we are doing interpretive ratings adjustments = NOT COOL.

There's this thing called "practice time" that Crabtree is the only rookie in the NFL to have none of. Maybe some of you guys spend too much time in the videogame NFL, 'cause in the real one not even Peyton Manning brings his A game without getting his practice reps in. Go check the Colts box scores from the first part of last season.

I don't understand the thought behind the ratings in Madden. Crabtree started at 84. He hasn't done anything to prove that he's still not an 84. If he played games and sucked, then I would agree to lower his stats but he hasn't played a down. Exactly what physical attributes did Crabtree lose? He still runs as fast as he did befofe. He still catches the ball as he did before. He still runs routes as he did before. The only way Crabtree should get a ratings drop is after he plays a few games and we see where he standss.

How do u know he still runs and catches as he did before? 1) he's never played a down in the NFL. 2) He's def not in football shape. He should be lowered till he proves he's a 84. He should be lowered to a 79 and then if he plays well bump him up, not the other way around He hasn't proven he can be a good NFL wr.

He never did anything to prove he was an 84 in the beginning…plus not having practice really hurts the cause.

I don't understand the thought behind the ratings in Madden. Crabtree started at 84. He hasn't done anything to prove that he's still not an 84. Cotchery should be a higher rating than Edwards with this new update imo. In the last 2 years, he has been a better player, and this year he is Sanchez's number one target, and Edwards is going to change that.

Crabtree should not of been an 84 to begin with. He had proved anything and should of been in the 70's like most of the other rookie wr's. Speaking of rookie WR"S how about raising Johhny "NOS" Knox. The kid has UNDER rated speed. He ran his 40 time faster than Percy Harvin but is still not as fast as him. Knox was second behind Darius-Heyicantcatch-Bey with a 4.34 40. People on the team say he is faster than Devin Hester. Very Undrated (smh)

    • Rude Noy

      He's rated with a 95 chill out

That's 'cuz EA has this screwed-up idea that they can somehow judge a player's speed by how many long passes he's caught and his apc some other stuff in addition to the 40 times. I agree that the 40 times aren't everything, 'cuz players run differently with or without pads, Jerry Rice ran a notoriously slow 40 time, blah blah blah. But to say that some formula derived from yards/catch and number of passes over x yards (Donny Moore referenced a stat along those lines when Houshmandzadeh called them out over his speed rating, you can see the clip on Youtube) and whatnot is somehow a more accurate representation of speed than breaking down film of actual players in-game? No, that's ridiculous. Someone can have a large average because of coverage breakdowns, because of scheme, because there's an excellent O-Line which gives a downfield-passing QB time to get the ball to a slow receiver on a deep route, so on and so forth. A company EA's size should be getting ahold of coach's tape and hiring some real football people to break it down for their ratings, and though they've claimed they do something along these lines there are some really whacked-out ratings: Patrick Willis is faster than most wideouts? Most tight ends can't outrun a linebacker? If you put 49ers OT Joe Staley in a footrace against Housh he'd lose, but only by a little? It's just bizarre and speaks to either a lack of confidence in the engine or a lack of competence on the part of Donny Moore.

The jets are easily won of the top 5 teams in madden now. With 2 legit recievers, a top RB, and a bad ass defence. LET'S GO JETS!

Let's not forget that this team will only go as far as Mark Sanchez caries them..

DO NOT MESS WITH CRABTREE'S STATS! Let him play, if he drops passes or runs the wrong routes, then knock his stats down.
