2K Calls Out EA on NBA Live 10 Patch

In a post on their official forums (which has since been deleted) 2K Sports community manager Ronnie Singh responded to the wide-spread sentiment that the recently released NBA Live 10 patch took into account community feedback. The patch for NBA 2K10 won’t be arriving for some time still and the positive response to the Live patch along with it being out in time for the start of the NBA season prompted the following response:

To say that the Live patch was based on community feedback is outrageous. There is no way they could get days/weeks of feedback, build a patch to fix all their issues, have passed cert, etc. without a very simple thing: they were building the patch before release. I shouldn’t even have to make you clear about this. You guys saw our efforts to get actual feedback as we put up countless threads about it. That’s real effort.

Just like the constant shots at EA on Twitter this statement is at best unprofessional. It would be one thing if 2K10 was overwhelmingly well received but with the poor framerate, numerous glitches, and non-functional online play there isn’t much reason they should be taking shots at the competition. It doesn’t take community feedback to recognize those core issues with the game.

One aspect that isn’t being taken into consideration here is the early release of the NBA Live 10 demo. Feedback started being collected then with one prime example being suggestions that EA add a manual backdown mechanic, which they immediately responded to and included in the patch. The early demo has proven beneficial as community feedback has been directly taken into consideration in recent games such as Live and NHL 10. They both arrived nearly a month in advance of their respective release dates. On the other hand NBA 2K10 did not release a demo for the 360 until a week before the game came out while the PS3 got it over a week after release and they chose not to put out a demo at all for NHL 2K10.

It's still the best game, and it's still not really all that close IMO. That comment was unprofessional, but if anyone understands the process, the comment was factual. That's really all there is to it. Maybe it shouldn't have been said, you could certainly argue that, but there's no way they gathered much feedback. The bugs were well known by-and-large.

Can someone post a Pasta article bashing EA or calling out madden for the nonsense in that game or ncaa football.

If you had even a shred of a clue you would understand that EA invites Pasta in addition to many others to EA to see their games in action. You see EA has nothing to hide like 2k. 2k knows that there games are weak and unfinished and they don’t want the press/bloggers to see it. The same goes for the late/no demos of there games either.

When I have posted about siding with Live 10, this year, it's crazy how people take shots at me because of it, even trying to say I'm a fanboy or something. WTF?? It's funny how when you don't side with people, how crazy it makes them. When I speak on something erroneous about Live 10, I'm a fanboy; If I ask a question about why someone feels 2K10 is better, I'm a fanboy, yada, yada. I don't flame on people yet I get flamed on.

This is no different than what Ian Cummings has done. He has taken shots at the 2K fellas for quite some time now. He's alway there with a back handed compliment when it comes to NFL 2K5. I find it funny how when a 2K guy calls out EA on a viable subject, its "unprofessional". Singh is right. There is absolutely NO way fan feedback was used in that patch. The demo excuse you use Pasta, is at best comical. The demo barely gives you enough time to get a feel for the game, let alone find items that need to be patched, i mean, c'mon. No one is buying that.

I'm not the biased type but I'm going to stick up for Ian because what you're saying is NOT the same as what 2K has just done with that statement. Don't get it twisted because I was following the development of Madden 10 and he would say how 2K used longer animations which would take control away from the players so they wanted to find a blend of what 2K was doing plus what they were doing at EA to give u better animations PLUS control. He also said he studied 2K5 because he did like much of what they did and wanted Madden to give the same feeling 2K5 did. U sound very biased in what you're saying.

Back to Live 10 – Like Nimidian said above you, NBA2K is their only successful sports game and they definitely feel threatened by what Live 10 has accomplished. Even the reviews were close, if Live 10 didn't actually get the higher score by some reviewers. Not to mention, you can't front that NBA2K has not really evolved much and it is extremely buggy.

You also have to remember about the demo is that EA made that EARLIER in the dev cycle and people had been playing it, already, because EA wanted people to see that this game was different from Live 09. The demo didn't reach the public til GamesCon in Aug so they had almost a month of that feedback PLUS the fact that that insiders were already playing it prior. In that time you can compile a list of things that need work and if you can't get to it in the normal dev cycle, there is still a month or so prior to release that the game has to "go gold". Plenty of time to work on feedback from insiders and the public community.
2K doesn't let anyone really get their hands on the game til mid to late September at that even they had THEN the demo came out either the same week or the next week, right before the game came out…and even then, only the 360 got it. The PS3 version didn't even come out til the week AFTER the game released. 2K dropped the ball in getting the game out to people to test drive well ahead of the release date. Who's fault is that, my dude? Be fair. 2K is mad at themselves and feel threatened so just like most immature people, they lash out. THAT'S on 2K, no one else.

During the live demo. Operation sports had a demo impressions thread where there were 1000 + post. and every day a live dev was on the site looking at reponding to people's request. So to say they didn't have time to listen to there community is a false statement. I am however sure that there were some issues that people hadn't even noticed.

In those forums people complained about the rocket dunking. they fixed that. community feedback from a demo.
Too many 3's going in. community feedback from a demo fixed.
Some people complained it was a little bit more jerky than they liked. Not totally fixed but minimized. again community feedback from a demo that released 2 months ago. i could go on but fan boys go with what they want to believe. but you can go on operation sports and check it out yourself.

It's sad how 2K is acting. Of course I do believe that EA were working on the patch before the release of the Live 10 which 2K should also have been doing. You can't tell me they released 2K10 without seeing any of these issues in testing. Both companies are wrong and the only ones who loose are us the consumers. Still, it's football season so I really could care about playing 2K10 right now. I'm looking forward to the patch and hoping it will at least fix the frame rate issues.

Actually, the full game may have come right after the demo. Not sure. Either way, there was a GRAND effort by EA to try to make Live 10 a great game, unlike 2K. I can't even stomach the demo for 2K10, which was LATE on the PS3, by a week after the retail version hit. I had played the retail version at a Best Buy the week it released and just had to walk away from it after a few minutes. No one was even there to put that "playing a game/demo in a store" pressure on me so I could have played for a while longer. Couldn't do it. I have hung up those NBA2K gaming "gloves" because Live 10 stole me away.

Actually, the full game may have come right after the demo. Not sure. Either way, there was a GRAND effort by EA to try to make Live 10 a great game, unlike 2K.
