EA Strikes Back With New Blog

Earlier this week controversy arose when a 2K Sports representative criticized the way the NBA Live 10 patch was being received. Rather than respond directly to that statement it seems that EA Sports has taken another approach. With the use of their blog they are now attempting to spread the perception that NBA 2K10 has fallen off this year due consumer reaction to the problems with the game. You can check out the posting that went up earlier today here.

This is the first time where competitors have gone at each other in such a public manner. It started on Twitter, elevated with the 2K statement a few days ago, and now is being used in the marketing. Some will surely like this, believing it will bring out the best in both development teams as they try to outdo each other next year because of the rivalry. There is probably something to that. However it doesn’t make either side look good right now. With basketball being the only sport that really has direct competition it has boiled up into what we’ve seen in the last month.

Despite the advances Live has made it has issues of its own too. The latest patch has brought about a problem where the points from goaltending are not being displayed on the scoreboard for instance. EA would be better off touting some of the areas the game excels in such as the atmosphere rather than pointing out the faults of the competition which are evident without being highlighted in a blog. Personally I would just rather have each side concentrating on their own product.

Update: Kotaku has a take on the EA vs 2K war which you can check out here.

This is for all those 2k players, we all know u have nothing better to do than search NBA live 10 and TRY to make your point that 2k is better, honestly thats all you guys do. I mean i gotta feel sorry for you guys with all your glitches and shit graphics and might i add the players look like shit oh and your player ratings are way out of line lol.

This is one of the worst ideas ever. And now EA is looking like a Garbage company for fighting back. If they say something about the patch, YOU DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE PATCH. This is horrible, EA really is run by idiots, NEVER will I buy Live 10 because of this. Real companys don't fight fire with fire. Idiots,

I think its tragic the way basketball has been treated in video games by 2k and EA. The fact is that both companies really arent working hard to present a top notch product to consumers. I have played both games this year and last year and find that they are awful. NBA jam was a much more enjoyable game and at least it never attempted to be accurate to "real" basketball. The fact is that I can score 100 points per game with any player on any team versus any team on the highest diffculty in both games. They are both an abomination to sports. I am not and have not been impressed with anything 2k has done so far and I have stopped buying basketball games becuase they all really suck. This year is no difference.

I find it funny that people think 2k wins b/c they sell more games than EA. This is very misleading due largely b/c 2k fanboys are sheep and are too stupid to realize that they are getting duped each year by 2k.

You guys are so brainwashed that you actually rationalize the broken game you buy each year. I will give 2k credit for being able to build up fan frenzy every year. They are definitely in tune with the sheepish behaviour of there fanbase and their willingness, without question to follow 2k sports any where.

At least live fans are real. They will let EA know when there game is garbage (ie NBA Live 07) and force them to fix it. You guys will complain but then you continue to buy so it never gets fixed.
  • VeezyF
LIVE 06-09 were completely unplayable. Talk about getting duped each year, this is the first time EA has contended in years. Can't blame people for sticking with what they are familiar with, maybe Live 11 will be different.
  • Josh
I don't know why everyone is complaining saying this is unprofessional? I love it that they are going back and forth. It's entertaining & it will definately bring out the best in both companies going forward. I get tired of the same old company lines from gaming companies so to me this is refreshing!

Whoooaaa, he went in. Lmao! I didn't go with 2K10 but I've heard how glitchy the game is, and, once again, the online situation is still horrible like last year. I had last year's but only played one game on line with my cuz. It was pretty laggy but we did get on immediately...yet we got disconnected down the stretch. Lol. Eh, whatever, I still enjoyed 2K9, a lot.

Live 10 has some quirks too but the patch fixed many of them yet created a couple so I've read (360 got the patch but the PS3, which I have, didn't).Even pre-patch, I hear Live 10 is nowhere near as glitchy as 2K10 but whatever. I chose what I chose and I am NOT mad. Live 10 is addictive, to me, like no other b-ball game I've ever played...for some reason, and I've played A LOT of em, going back to Double Dribble. Lol. Kudos to EA, from me.
  • X2KFootballG0dX
You like NBA Live because you can actually shoot threes like Double Dirbble lol

Hang in the air, turn and shoot=Auto 3 lol

    NBA Live is a joke.

TreyIM is just another EA Puppet...bottom line.
  • blondeviking64
Another fact, puppet. Check. Oh wait you have already used that one. Hmm i wonder who sounds like a machine or a "puppet" here. thank you X2KFootballG0dX or should I call you irritation the clown. Or perhaps kermit the puppet?
  • Ken
So, I guess EA hired Karl Rove for their marketing department?

I really don't care how good or not their game is, this is just fucking pathetic, and a multi-billion dollar corporation should be embarrassed to put their name on something like this.
  • TreyIM2
I gotta admit that I really was disappointed with EA with this blog just like I was with 2K and their post, the other day. Real childish and I thought EA would be content in knowing they got under 2K's skin because Live 10 won over a lot of people, including me, even if it didn't over take 2K in sales. I really wished EA would have taken the higher road but they didn't.
  • ReecdTheAussie
Now I'm not going to hop on and try to tell you that Live is bad and 2K is good. I own 2K10, not Live 10. I played both demos and determined 2k10 as the better experience from my perspective. Am I right? Probably not, I'll pick up Live 10 when it comes down in price and kudos to them for producing what has been a positively received product.
Yes I'm a kid, yes I'm not the best gamer out there but I do know the NBA left to right. I can tell you the formation of the Triangle offense, or the effect LeBron James had on the Cavaliers against the Timberwolves, or anything else you ask. I really enjoy 2K despite it's problems but I do NOT like the trash talking for either side. It's childish, and disrespectful. I just hope this can inspire each side to pull their heads out of their arses and produce two excellent NBA experiences.
  • NdaZone7
I was banned from Operation Sports for saying EA is Shady and I bought Madden 10 and Live 10 and 100 other EA sport games.

Talk about a site that gets paid by EA. I call a company shady because they are and get banned.
  • antoine252
where is the nba live patch for ps3
  • Don't agree, Ive been on 2K since way back and this is the first year I haven't bought it. Live has continued to improve while 2k is going the other way.
  • X2KFootballG0dX
"I've purchased 2K since the beginning and was in love with the game but I was never any good, so when EA launched the marketing HYPE MACHINE for NBA Live I was easily lead to the conveyor belt leading to the abertois of MEDIOCRITY, You know I love corporate giants bent on destroying quality sports gaming for years to come "--Fixed your post.
  • TreyIM2
Here you go again trying to steer someone else's opinion that doesn't agree with your love of 2K. I guess he's a fellow "gullible sheep" just like me, then? You are the biggest loser, dude. Respect the man's opinion and to be honest, he has a point. This is apart of the reason I didn't go with 2K, this year. I didn't see real improvement to the game. Now, if there were no Live worth buying this year, imo, I may have bought 2K10 this year but truth be told, 2K is getting really tired where as Live 10 did something to set itself apart that was worth my dollars this go round. Don't hate and try to turn people into thinking like you.
  • X2KFootballG0dX
2K no improvements????????????? Are you kidding me???

Just admit it...you bought in to the hype. You jumped on that conveyor belt.

NBA Live is trash....Robotic movement, Mike Wang Hype, Invisible men, Aliens, funny animations, kiddie control, 3 Pt turtle shoot lol it's geared for the kiddies.

EA is a trash company bent on destroying quality sports gaming for years to come....And you support it.

    You are shallow..my friend.
  • blondeviking64
WoW. So I am amazed at your stunning arguments full of fact and the like. For example hype, conveyor belt, bent on destroying quality sports. you sir sound like a programmed machine to me. Did you make up those comments yourself? Sounds like a tag line and not a personal thought. Stop the trash and at least try to bring some reason with your opinion. ( i cant call it an argument becuase in order for it to be an argument it has to have a basis in fact)
  • TreyIM2
You, my friend, are an idiot, especially when 2K10 is chock full of bugs, glitches and such. Again, stop trying to talk people into being an idiot just like you.
  • dman
Nba live 2010 is bad and i would never waste my money on it
  • Wow, this is really kinda funny.

I love competition, but this seems like a forum-type of argument lol. Oh man.

With both games being buggy this year, both companies should just shutup and go to work.
  • ealoverboy
The way EA markets, those are probably just EA employees posting that on Craig's list. EA is full of losers and full of douches like Peter Moore. Terrible company!
  • Anyone else draw a comparison between EA Strikes Back and 'Empire' Strikes Back? Last time I watched Star Wars, the Empire was evil. :)
  • blondeviking64
WOW, way to make it into good and evil when both companies just want the same thing. YOUR MONEY. LOL, as if its more noble to want it if you are a smaller company rather than a bigger company.
  • Lafayette Azevedo
Sad, they have to hype themselves up, pathetic! 2K10 killed them, period!
  • TreyIM2
Remember, 2K started the "fight"...yet u point out EA for sounding "pathetic". Yea, way to take sides and make a dumb, off base and biased statement.
  • Mansandthem
Im suprised Pasta even posted this....EA fanboy lol
  • Lake Allen
Im not surprised. Pasta consistently holds EA to the fire when they do something stupid. It just so happens they seem to do less of it these days.
  • The NBA Live team is spending more time reading 2K assaults than reading our forum posts on THEIR site.

They need to fix our game..asap. It's not as bad as 2K but if they do nothing, then it will be.
  • TreyIM2
See, this is a ridiculous statement. EA just released that BIG OLE patch for the 360 (where is MINE, Sony?? lol) where they obviously put a lot of time and effort into and u make THIS statement? Patches are inherently problematic when trying to fix/add/improve so many things so there were some offspring issues caused but you CAN'T say that they haven't tried to fix the game when it's obvious they have. Just hope that they will fix the new probs the patch caused and may some other things they couldnt quite address in the first patch. BE GRATEFUL!

Now, as for the blog, I don't agree with EA responding to 2K's asinine rant because it was great just looking at 2K grasp for straws and make themselves look even worse and very insecure. The high road would have been to ignore them but, since it's already done, eff it. EA got me, this year, and, heck, if they want to stick out their chests in regards to 2K's feeling a bit "small" these days, again, eff it. Let EA enjoy this because they deserve the kudos for Live 10 and I'm not exactly mad they want to tell the comp to shut the eff up, since 2K wanted to start ish.
  • X2KFootballG0dX
They got you and the rest of the gullible sheep...congrats.
  • TreyIM2
Just because I like Live 10 over 2K10, does that make me a "gullible sheep"? Do I NOT have the right to have my OWN opinions, own brain, like what I like and think for myself?? Explain yourself because I need to know why I am a "gullible sheep."
  • X2KFootballG0dX
Anyone who bought Live from the start is not a gullible peon. Anyone who has bought 2K the last 4 to 5 years but made the switch to Live this year is just a victim of the EA Sports Hype Machine.

The many masses of EA Puppets who root for huge corporations like EA in its quest to destroy quality sports gaming.

    EA Sports Consumers=Uncaring trash.

EA buys exclusive licenses to block competition and the masses see nothing wrong with that...Pathetic....They still buy their shitty products!!!

Jump off the conveyor belt you EA Puppets!!!!....Before its too late.
  • blondeviking64
HAHAHAHAHAHA. Retarded statements. Funny but retarded. As far as quality gaming goes I dont see how the basketball game 2k has released would qualify in that regard. Im pretty sure EA is trying its best to MAKE MONEY. My goal as a consumer is to get the best value for my dollar, which in a sports game is the most realistic and enjoyable experience. Baskteball games are pathetic right now so I no longer by them. I am thankful for the competition but I sure dont feel both sides are doing their best to put out a quality game. I mean its not like 2k has to split its resources in order to create a football game too.
  • Well this wasn't the developers who made the blog. But I agree it can be perceived that way which is part of why this was such a bad idea.

TD St. Matthew-Daniel: Do I start off with the vast contract options? Defined player roles? D-League integration? When it comes to dealing with team personnel decisions, NBA 2K10 has better handles than Rafer Alston’s alter ago at the Rucker.

Restricted free agents are now a thing of virtual reality in NBA 2K10 and being able to call up or demote players to the D-League keeps you busy as a GM. Also, now that failing to honor player roles can prove costly for your team’s chemistry, you have to pay closer attention to player personalities and motives when making trades or free-agent signings. And if that doesn’t entice you, how do 10-day contracts sound? Yup, Morris Almond and other D-League hopefuls would be pleased as well.

Steve Bartlett: Yeah. I’m not even going to lie, I’m supposed to be over here arguing for Live’s great Dynasty mode but 2K10’s handle on the business side of the Association is serious. You mentioned the restricted free agents in 2K, which I love. It’s impressive to me that when you negotiate new player contracts the game gives you the option to build a player and team option into the contracts. If a player is indecisive in signing with your team, this element can help you sway the pendulum in your favor.

In Live you can’t do any of these things when it comes to contracts. What you can do is play a negotiation game. The game gives you seven player interests to choose from when signing a free agent. You have three tries to select two options that you think the player will bite on. 2K does not have that type of interaction between the agent and GM.
