EA Strikes Back With New Blog

Earlier this week controversy arose when a 2K Sports representative criticized the way the NBA Live 10 patch was being received. Rather than respond directly to that statement it seems that EA Sports has taken another approach. With the use of their blog they are now attempting to spread the perception that NBA 2K10 has fallen off this year due consumer reaction to the problems with the game. You can check out the posting that went up earlier today here.

This is the first time where competitors have gone at each other in such a public manner. It started on Twitter, elevated with the 2K statement a few days ago, and now is being used in the marketing. Some will surely like this, believing it will bring out the best in both development teams as they try to outdo each other next year because of the rivalry. There is probably something to that. However it doesn’t make either side look good right now. With basketball being the only sport that really has direct competition it has boiled up into what we’ve seen in the last month.

Despite the advances Live has made it has issues of its own too. The latest patch has brought about a problem where the points from goaltending are not being displayed on the scoreboard for instance. EA would be better off touting some of the areas the game excels in such as the atmosphere rather than pointing out the faults of the competition which are evident without being highlighted in a blog. Personally I would just rather have each side concentrating on their own product.

It's expected that 2K would outsell Live because 2K has been the better game for the past 4 years at least. The fact is that Live was bad, real bad until this year. They are not going to win back the majority in 1 year. That said, 2K is a solid game itself; however, I believe Live is the better of the two this year. Obvious, 2k's patch hasn't come out yet and it wouldn't be fair to compare the two right now, because Live has gotten a patch that made a lot of fixes and 2K hasn't had the same luxury.

My point here is that sales shouldn't be the barometer because 2K has built a head start because of the past. I'm sure that many people who support 2K and bought 2k10 feel a little disappointed, even if they don't admit it. So maybe next year they won't just go out and buy 2k without looking at NBA Live first. Live is not a bad game. Maybe it's not better than 2K, but for someone who says that Live 10 sucks or is an arcade game, they have no credibility and are nothing short of a fanboy.

Don't take my word for just sit back and watch TV the next time a Verizon commercial comes on how the display their 3G coverage vs AT&T. Maybe it's just my "age" that allows me to clearly understand this concept wether I agree with the tactics or not this is nothing new or all that much out of place. I just think EA right or wrong took a more factual approach.

Both Systems sitting about 440,000…I think we know who the clear winner is.

Also once the patch drops you will see a steady rate of sales all year. I expect 2K10 to sell about 1.7 million copies.

While NBA Live will just fade into mediocrity by the end of this month(and it is the end of the month hahah)…bottom line.

EA Sports=Trash….Madden would also be the NBA Live of today but we know the story there…don’t we????

Live IMO (nobody else just mine opinion) is the better game as it's more enjoyable and responsive. Next year will be a different story in regards to sells as the play mechanics between both games isn't even close.

So this year really lays down that foundation and should rewrite the past. This is the first year I haven't picked up NBA 2K and I have to say I don't miss it. I have been a sports fan ever since I was 5. All my PS3 games are sports. But ever since 2005 I hate EA Sports and not because they took the football license away from 2K but all their sports games. Madden, Live & MVP Baseball has been in decline after 05. Madden & Live's gameplay was getting worse every year until this year and MVP Baseball lost the baseball license. The only good sports games from EA through 06-08 was FIFA, Tiger Woods & NHL and thats bullshit because those 3 sports are not as popular as Football, Basketball & Baseball here in the U.S. I must say however that EA is going to the right path and might have a very good future in sports gaming. Although I like the competition between EA & 2K but the bitching gotta stop. Like the people above me said "stop complaining and stick with your own game". 2K shouldn't even start the arguement in the first place since they outsold EA by a good margin. EA shouldn't fight back like that and now instead of 2K looking bad in the first place, EA Sports now looks like a kid runs their blog. Both games have their issues but damn this shit is some Pre-School shit!

Notice how this year they seem to focus on alot of details like madden did " if you see it on sunday, you will see it madden 10" now people say that gameplay is not up to par with the ps2. REALLY? Same thing with NBA 2K10, they took the madden route and incorporated everything you see pregame before the actual game. As you see, the game suffered. How could 2K10 miss coach settings being reset to default, the my player clone glitch, Framerate drop in post. Most of these poblems occur due to the size of the game and the attention to graphics and not the game itself. If you remove alot of the things people dont use in the game, you would probably have a full working game. As I have said before, and many others,
2K PLEASE WORK ON GETTING THIS DAMN PATCH OUT FOR 2K10, ENOUGH WITH THE 2K EA WAR. YOU BOTH END UP WITH MEDIOCRE GAMES WHEN THEY SHOULD BE AWARD WINNERS.

One more thing….I applaud EA for this.

You see in the old days of sports gaming you could expose your enemy(cheesers, skilless peons, ect.) without being banned but nowadays with this new generation of gamers their is no sense of competition(actual FUN). They all want to play in the damn fetal position and whine and the littlest things about the game. They all want to believe they are actually good at the game and know the sport. When in reality they are just plain lobby scum.

And if people are complaining you are supposed to work as quickly as you can. Your going to sit here and tell me 2k's programmers were not aware of any of these problems prior to release, then release a laundry list of details for a post release patch and we have to wait at least " 2 weeks or so" are you serious right now? why release the game if it needs a patch this gigantic? I have never seen this in my life, Im so happy i didnt spend the 60 for the game, it was bought for me by a friend. I love 2K basketball, I REALLY DO and i am not a 2k basher or a EA basher im a Veteran of both games Live since 98, 2k since dreamcast, but this right now is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen in my life.

Sorry EA, but I've owned about five NBA Lives (all purchased used for under 10 bones), and none of them were great. My NBA Live 08 is currently collecting dust because the gameplay sucked. EA just smells blood in the water seeing as how they've been successful at driving 2k out of just about everything else.
