Which MLB Game Will You Pick Up?

With just over two weeks until release of MLB 10: The Show and MLB 2K10 a great deal is known about the two games but there remains additional promotion to come before then. The Show has gameplay videos out which have been well received while everyone is still waiting on some from 2K10. Both games still have their demos to release as well.

Continue on for a quick recap on the status of the games at the moment. Vote in the poll regarding which game you are planning to purchase and leave your thoughts in the comments!

MLB 2K10 follows up one of the worst sports games in recent memory but looks to have at least stabilized and established itself as a viable option for 360 owners. 2K Sports has done a better job of promoting the game this year with a couple blogs going over aspects of the game in more detail. The $1 million prize and pre-order incentives show they are trying to win back gamers despite expecting to lose a ton of money this year which could be a sign of confidence. However with absolutely no gameplay having been shown and just two weeks until release that is providing reason for concern. There were videos for MLB 2K9 at this point last year and that was considered late due to an attempt to shield it from criticism. The demo will end up being a significant factor for many people in making a final decision.

MLB 10: The Show appears to be in great shape given how well the series has been received the last two years. Sales of 09 soared based off solid marketing and great word of mouth. Consumer confidence is at an all-time high and SCEA is pushing out info on the game at a regular rate. They have released several blogs, a ton of screenshots, and there are multiple extended gameplay videos available. The demo arrives later this year than last, where maybe it was out so early that its effect wore off. It would be difficult though to say that the early demo was a mistake given how well everything came together with the sales supporting every move that was made. One concern remains online play performance which unfortunately can”t be settled until after the game is released.

The Show is a certain buy, 2K10 maybe depending on the demo and reviews. Id like to have a baseball game on the 360 just doubt it will be good enough.

  • jaycruz92

as an xbox 360 owner im forced too only get 2k10 but i am in the process of trying to aquire a ps3 simply for the show and blue ray

  • OIO

2k doesnt deserve a dollar from me after last years fiasco. i got a ps3 mainly just for the show!

  • jamez

i wonder what is wrong with 2k10 that they dont want people to see it. makes me think they might not even have the demo out before release

  • http://stickskills.com/ CMUchips

As someone with just a 360, I can't get the Show. Most likely I won't get 2k10 after being extremely disappointed with 2k9, but I'll wait until I play the demo to decide.

  • Timmy458

Voted for neither since I am not a big baseball fan but I usually rent MLB 2K10 since I have a 360.

  • Mykal94

Duh… unless you don't have a choice, it's The Show all the way.

  • BU1B22

hell yeh, a braves screenshot! i dont have much of a choice since i have a 360….but at least they seem to think they r putting effort into the game this year. ill hold my breath until i start turning blue

  • GoBraves

Got a PS3 mainly for The Show so I'll be picking that up. Loving the Braves screenshot by the way!

  • skihawks

The Show is the lock purchase. I will give 2K a look but The Show is, and has been, so solid that I can not see this game getting replaced in my library.

I personally think MLB 2K10 will be much improved but how much is unknown. I am a bit concerned that there aren't any gameplay videos. Hope 2K releases a demo…

  • Jamin

Great Pasta!! Another opportunity for people to put down 2k.

  • Kevin

    What no Bob yet? BORING

  • Jamin

    Don't worry, he'll be here.

  • Sam

2k did that with nba 2k10 as well

  • Steven

I have both the 360 and PS3 and I enjoy MLB 09: The Show. Most would probably agree that one would be a fool not to pickup MLB 10: The Show if you are a PS3 owner. But I will say this, judging from the information released on both titles this year, it wasn't a 100% slam dunk decision for me in regards to the Show.

Although MLB 2K9 was mess, I am really liking how their pitching/batting scheme is coming together. However, with the Show adding pickoff options, playing as the catcher, fan upgrades, additional practice sessions and just a more polished and respected product, MLB 2K10's pitching/batting scheme is just not enough for me to pay full price. If MLB 2K10's demo is decent, I'm sure I'll pick up the final product when the price drops significantly, but for now, the Show will happily get my money.

  • James

And look how buggy that game was (It was fun though and the better basketball game IMO)… The Show is a day 1 purchase, unless 2k releases a demo I'm not going to even consider renting it.

  • James

Well in all fairness it is 2ks fault on this one. They made one of, if not, the worst sports game in this “next gen” era. And this year they're just releasing pics and saying “they've put alot of work into it”… no gameplay vids or info on a demo release, if the demo doesn't come out before the game then that's probably not a good sign. Especially since they've come out with all these BS incentives to buy the game.

  • sroeland

MLB 2K9 = the game that that cost 2K Sports my business.

I already have The Show preordered and cannot wait until March 2 for it.

  • Bob

MLB 2K is just too great of a game to bypass. 2K10 should be off the charts and will be heating up my PS3 for the next 12 months until 2K11 comes out.

March 2nd can't come soon enough.

  • Braves

i can't say my name but we like 2k baseball game because there striving for a complete realism and there going to make a few mistakes, but to say its the worst sports game ever, well that doesn't even make sense. mlb2k10 will be a great game, trust me i no we put in to much work.

The show is a must. not to sure about 2k10 yet although early signs point to it being much better than last year. 2k has came out and said last years game was basically a 3/4 build cause VC joined up so late. now they have had a full dev. cycle with the game. i will probably end up getting 2k if it gets a review of least an 8 or so and that there are no major bugs

  • Rudy

90% certain I'll buy MLB 10. I do need to make sure certain sliders work right and I can adjust pitch speed to my slower reflexes. I loved MLB 09 other than the DH fatigue being broken and the fact that throwing errors out numbered fielding errors about 20 to 1 (and the slider was broken). As long as they didn't break anything else and fixed those two things I'm buying. Otherwise I'll just stick with MLB 09 and keep playing with a NL team due to how screwed up the DH fatigue was. Still don't know why the dev team refused to answer to that last year and why is wasn't patched. Guys who DH should be getting rested and not getting more tired than anybody in the field (this IS fixed for MLB 10). They completely ignored the forums on a lot of the problems post-release and the patch was terrible. Nobody should expect much patch support from SCEA.

The MLB 2K9 demo was better but it has to go so far to nail what the Show does so well already. I'll play the demo but the odds of me buying this game (at least at full price) are near 0.

Bob are you a fool or something you have a P3 and you got 2k baseball over the show you musr be on the pipe bro cmon now if you didnt have a P3 i would understand but 2k never they suck on baseball games yeah its looks good but plays horriable man cmon get off the drugs my dude

  • Bisett

First off its a sony product and exclusives sell systems so your theory is a bit misguided. Also have you ever considered that the game couldn’t be done on the 360 due to disc storage constraints. All PS3 games are on Bluray format which has a 50GB storage capacity. 360 games max out at like 15GB.

It is quite possible that the game wouldn’t fit on a 360 disc. Games like MGS4 and Uncharted 1 were 50GB and 25GB respectively.

mlb the show, is it even a contest? lol.

  • ec1015

    Bob=EPIC FAIL

  • jtr

but they use it instead as a selling point for their system. exclusives have helped sell ps3s.

  • budsticky

Well, I bought a PS3 last week almost exclusively for The Show so there's my answer. I wouldn't waste a dime on 2k's product after the last couple disappointing years.

  • Jamin

    Exclusive licenses kill sports gaming.

  • 65South

Same here. MLB The Show 09 was a system seller for me. I kept telling myself I didn't need a PS3 since I had a Xbox 360 and enjoyed the heck out of it, but I broke down last year about this time after playing The Show at a buddy's house over a weekend. Needless to say, I was hooked.

I took advantage of the deal Gamestop had at the time which I believe was trade in like 5 or more games and get 40% bonus credit on everything (plus an extra 10% with the edge card). I had a couple gift cards I had been holding on to since Christmas and walked out of the store with a 120GB PS3 and MLB The Show 09 paying nothing out of pocket. Couldn't have been happier!

  • alali24

I am forced to choose 2K10. Because I have a 360, but if I could there in no way on God's green earth would I pick 2K10 over the Show.

  • 65South

I can definitely attest to that as MLB The Show 09 was a system seller for me.

  • NICEHANDSLARRY

If I only had a 360, I would rather break out MVP Baseballl 2005 and redo the rosters by hand than to pay $60 for MLB 2K10.

  • NELL86

Better baseball game on the better system ofcorse im gettin the show

  • CardLover

To 2K10: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

2K9 had been a big waste of money, so definitely The Show, which impressed me last year.

  • ken2010

The show all the way but might pick up 2k10 for my 360 if the demo is decent

  • HustlinOwl

    The Show

  • HustlinOwl
  • Geek_Gaming

I'll pick up both, but im pretty sure the show will take up the majority of my time.

  • http://www.facebook.com/kenkraly2004 Kenny Kraly Jr

MLB The Show in my opinion is still the number 1 baseball videogame series par none. So I will buy MLB 10 The Show over 2KSports's MLB game hands down.

  • Fabian aka fabby

    Tell that to madden kid.

  • Lafayette

2K10 just to piss of Pasta and laugh and laugh when he plays it and secretly tells himself, “This game is real good this year but I wish EA could make a baseball game so I can talk smack about THE SHOW also.”

  • skihawks

SCEA releasing The Show on any other console would be like Halo, Gears of War releasing on another console. Why would Sony allow one of its in-house products to be sold on another system when it can keep it on the PS3 which will help drive PS3 sales?

The point of 1st party titles is to provide strong software to push the hardware. I still wish Microsoft would step up and create its own baseball game, maybe using the developers of MVP.

    • T. DALEY

If you havent noticed, microsoft has essentially gotten out of the sports game business. If memory serves me well, they were never a contender in any sport so it stands to reason why they stopped making them. Even Sony finally realized that they cant compete in basketball so they stopped making basketball games for the PS3 this year.

However having said that, i must admit that sony never tapped the true power of the PS3 to create a basketball game that was comperable to what they did in baseball. Perhaps they didn’t want to gamble on the extra money it would take to make a studly basketball game when you have moronic fanboys who cant get past the name of the publisher on the box……….YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE FANBOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wes

Ha! I'm in the same boat.

  • Rex

Rudy, it was already stated that the DH issue has been fixed for MLB 10 and the throwing errors have been considerably reduced. Of course they've added numerous other “goodies” to the new version.

Haven’t seen any demo from The Show. Is there a problem with the game?

    MLB 2K10

If you are a PC Gearhead and don’t do video boxes, this is the only full-feature baseball game in town.

    Give ‘em a chance.
