wow the mariners should be better than that the have a awesome defense and good pitching

  • Anonymous

the brewers scored the 4th most runs last year in the NL but somehow they are the 19th best hitting team. WOW. Even behind the orioles?? i mean they have the best 3-4 punch in the league statistically in braun and fielder

  • Bob

Kind of a cop out by The Show to just release their “own” rankings without showing their ratings. MLB 2K doesn’t play these type of games and gives it to you straight from the mouth.

It looks more and more like The Show will be another “NO SHOW” this year. Oh well at least the best sports game is available on both systems this year with MLB 2K10. I like SONY but they need to seriously revamp this stale franchise but in the meantime MLB 2K is putting some serious playing time on my PS3.

I have only one question. When I’m about 50 games in, and a blockbuster trade goes down in actual baseball that would help me (Like the Twins trading for Ryan Zimmerman…just saying), am I going to be able to download this into my season on The Show, or do I have to restart my whole Franchise? If anyone has the answer, I would love to know. That was the only thing that has bugged me from last year. Thanks, guys.

what Pirates 29th overall thats a joke….lol i wish only the best for my beloved pirates Cutch is the chosen 1!

  • Anonymous

LOLOLOL the Marlins behind the Padres cuts deep. Is this a comedy website? Come ONN those 2 teams are not even close.

  • Anonymous

The rankings look a lot better if you separate the AL and NL teams. With them mixed, it seems like some teams appear to be lower than they are.

The top 5 AL teams look spot on in the overall. We can argue about the specifics of the hitting/pitching/defense all day, but in terms of how the standings will look when all is said and done, look correct. New York, Boston, Angels, and Twins will be the AL playoff teams.

I don’t know why you guys are riding the Mariner hype. After their 1-2 pitchers, they are a mediocre team, and their offense is simply TERRIBLE.

They won’t be more than a .500 team so 21st overall and 9th in the AL is exactly where my money is.

    ratings mean absolutly nothing lol

Dodgers pitching is not second, its not even second in their own division

Rating system Explained, since everyone forgets teams have bullpens and bench players…

    http://www.operationsports.com/forums/2040758662-post121.html

“These are some of my favorite threads every year because we all get to debate on why so and so is rated this and that. It’s all arbitrary and opinions when you think about it though (which is why I enjoy these threads so much), but for the sake of understanding I’m game lets dig a little deeper.

The Cardinals batting being ranked 20th in the game, but before I talk about their rating let me shed some light on how the game determines this.

    1. It’s an avg. of your starters and your bench and that’s for your starting pitching and lineup. Kolbe gave me a number around 60% to 40% with your starters making up 60% of that rating.

    2. Player ratings are not done by human hands its all done by a program that looks at the players past three years with the most recent year weighing in the highest.

Now that we have that out the way back to the Cardinals and this 20th batting ranking which made me scratch my head a little when I first saw it. As most of you and I’m guilty of this myself I think Pujols and Holliday that has to at least make them better than 20th. Not so fast

The Mets are ranked 15th a good 5 spots ahead of them I’ve uploaded some pics to help make this easier.

If you notice the Cardinals bench is relatively weak compared to the Mets. This is a very important factor in the Cardinals current 20th batting rating. For the sake of science I swaped F.Tatis for S.Robinson on these two teams and their ratings changed. That one player swap propelled the Cardinals to 13th overall in batting and dropped the Mets to 21st in batting. What you have to remember is your starting lineup is only half of the story (about 60% give or take) you have to take into consideration your bench and your bullpen for pitching. Hope this helps

Still, this system leaves alot to be desired. But the only alternative is the crummy 2k game — nahhh!! I’ll stick with the Show.

  • http://www.facebook.com/a.j.gadberry Anthony A.J. Gadberry

cubs still got a decent rating after that shit year.

  • sandul

wait wait wait… why is mariners’ pitching 19th??? it was the BEST ERA in the AL last year WTF!!!!

do you have any insight knowledge on this pastapadre? the M’s Defense and pitching are at least both top 5 (they gave defense 3rd which is fine). I know our offense suxxors.

  • No Love For Detroit

How in the blue hell does 2K and The Show have the Detroit Tigers ranked at 24th and 26th overall???

Ok the Tigers made the World Series in 2006. Have played above .500 baseball since and were one playoff game shy of winning the AL central last season. They added Jose Velvarde at closer and will soon add Johnny Damon so what the hell gives with this?

To say that the Orioles are a better team makes me cringe.

    • Bob is blind

Going to the world series 4 years ago means NOTHING. Let alone, not even winning it. I don’t see you complaining about the Cardinals who went to the 2006 world series as well, and actually beat the Tigers.

Valverde is a good closer but a closer does make a team that much better, ratings wise. Read the post above. The numbers are taken into account with the bench, bullpen, rotation and lineup.

And Johnny Damon has not signed yet and you expect them to rate the Tigers as if they have him
? Please, this is the stupidest post I have read yet

    • Objectivity

The Orioles will be a better team than the Tigers this year, partner.

They play in a horrendous division, so they might not finish any higher than 3rd… but they will get better very quickly. Watch.

      • Mo

Your livin in a dream world. The O’s have a promising young lineup, but their pitching leaves alot to be desired. The Tigers staff will be in the top 5, plus Valarde is a huge upgrade over Rodney as the closer – Sherzer and Mark’s Schlereth’s kid will provide a boost. Bonderman will have a comeback year from injury. They are just doing what the Twins have done in recent years (like going young with Jackson and Sizemore) and the Twins are always around at seasons end. The Tig’s will be just fine and will finish better than the O’s. Remember the O’s have to play the Rays, Sox, and Yanks several times — enough said!!!!!!!

    • sandul

don’t forget that a lot of people think that detroit is having a fire sale, i mean they got rid of curtis granderson, the only sure bet is verlander is staying. but i agree, the orioles have sucked in the past, there’s nothing to say they’re going to have a good season this year, especially up against the rays/yanks/sox. they’ll beat the blue jays probably.

I agree wholeheartedly —- the Tig’s just picked up Johnny Damon — FINALLY!!! That should move them up from 29th in batting, which is rediculous. With Cabrera, Inge, Damon, Ordonez, and Guillen they sould be atleast ranked in the late teens. Plus it looks like Drombroski is looking at Jim Thome now as a DH – that would be a huge boost in batting.

And how many AB had Freese?10 or 15?
    Molina sucks at hitting.

  • mroe

THE RATINGS ARE BASED ON A 3 YEAR STATS!so how do you expect a team that lost 101 games in one season be higher than a team without 95 loss season.

  • SadAboutTheDemo

hate to say it guys, but the LACK of a demo has actually made me lose interest in picking up this game. After waiting.. and waiting… and waiting… after hearing it would be out at ‘about’ the same time. I’ve decided to move on from this game. I know that sounds dumb probably, but i was so hyped about this game and each week.. no demo, no demo, no demo… so i just decided to go after other gaming interest this year.

    • sandul

um… why? the game is going to be good, the show has never been worse than the year before, and it’s going to have a home run derby!!! come on you have to pick it up, you know it’s going to be better than ’09, it’s a guarantee!!!

Where the Hell is the MLB 10 the Show DEMO? oops!
Posted on February 19, 2010 at 12:39 PM. (0) I’m from the South, I’m talkin’ ‘bout the Bible Belt, where the tiny, slender pin pierces the belt’s leathered end…so, cursing is not my lot. My mother washed my mouth out with soap, Ivory too, if a “bad word” ever slipped my little lips. Even today, I have dreadful nightmares when before bed I wash my face and incidentally allow a bubble of suds to pass my tastebuds. So, for me to curse, even in the title of this article, is a big deal, a crossing of the line, as rare an event as Congress balancing the budget.
But I am mad as HELL!! Where is that damn MLB 10 the Show demo? Yes, I am a fan of baseball and of that tremendous video game called MLB 10 the Show, and I have prognosticated as to when the demo might appear on my Playstation 3 online menu. I noticed last year that the demo came out almost a month before the game was released, so I have been figuring the same this year. Therefore, at least two times a day (sometimes, 3), I have been checking to see if the download was ready. I got up several mornings around 3:00 AM to see if the West Coast entities may have slipped the demo in while I was having nightmares of soap bars in my throat, but each time the damn demo was not there. Sorry.
Now that we are nearing the March 2nd date of the release of MLB 10 the Show, I KNEW without a shadow of doubt that the demo would HAVE to be available yesterday, the inevitable day of Sony’s download escapades; however, when I checked online for the demo, it was nowhere to be found. Why? Why is San Diego afraid of releasing the demo at least two weeks early? What are they afraid of?
I think they know that the game is the same game. That when you and I play the demo, that we will see no obvious bells and whistle improvements but the same game with a little more reality and shine. They are afraid that we will tire easily of the repetitious routines of reality and will think twice before throwing $60 into the wind on March 2nd. They are afraid that we will check out 2K’s rendering and like what we see. They are afraid. The game is not the same, and they know it.
What will I do today? Will I waste my time checking online anymore for the demo? Knowing I’ve been lied to and deceived by the game-makers that I thought loved me, did I rise again this morning at 3:00 AM to check for the demo online? Will I waste my money on this stupid game when it arrives at Gamespot? Yes, damn it! Will Hell be hotter for a gamer from the Bible Belt than it will be for one from Las Vegas? Guess we’ll find out, huh; but even hell can’t compare to the anger in my momma’s eyes when I would accidentally slip a bad word into her presence. Oooooo, that soap. I hate that damn Ivory! (sorry, Mom)

yeah, even though i have been a DIE HARD Braves fan all of my life and I hate the Mets, Phillies, and Marlins(especially last year because it seemed like every time we faced the Marlins we lost.BTW i don't hate the Nationals because they just suck too bad.) I don't know why the Marlins are only 26 out of 30 when they finished one game ahead of the Braves at 87-75 when the Braves finished 86-76 and they are 6 out of 30. I know we have a very solid rotation, we acquired Troy Glaus, Melky Cabrera, and have Major League Baseball's number one rated prospect in outfielder Jason Heyward (yes, ahead of Steven Strasburg he's number two) as well but i kinda don't get that one. And the Marlins have a real ace in that Josh Johnson kid and that Ricky Nolasco ain't bad either, not to mention Rookie of the Year Chris Coghlan. Now that i mention it, even the Mets are rated higher and they went 70-92 (even though all their players were hurt).I don't like the Marlins, but c'mon, they need some respect.

  • catch21_2

You're a Reds fan and you're going to talk smack to a Cardinals fan? Seriously? The Reds are like that awkward, ugly, unathletic younger brother of the stud athlete in high school–they just don't compare.

I cannot wait for the damn game to come out already!!!!!!!!!! are these rankings based on factual mlb rankings??? Cardinals 17th overall???

the only true problem i have is the blue jays being rated so high, even higher than a division champ (cards), and mariners and marlins being rated so low. The mariners should be closer to the angels now, and the marlins were in the wild card race for a while they shouldnt be with the 5 worse teams in baseball

  • Anonymous

i do not understand how the cardinals are ranked so low in everything. they have the MVP best player in baseball, holliday, and a bunch of other great hitters. albert won a gold glove and yadi is the best defensive cathcer in the big leagues. 2 cy young candidates. nuff said. the cubs are ahead of us in team ranking. and the blue jays. this game looks amazing but this is ridiculous.

    • Punani

The updates will take care of the ratings as the seasons progresses.

  • Anonymous

The ratings do seem a little skewed. There are some rankings that just don’t make sense at first glance, like the Red Sox 3rd in pitching and the Dodgers 2nd. However I’m assuming that the pitching rating takes into account the team’s bullpen as well. The Dodgers had the best bullpen in the NL last year, I can see some kind of rationale there. Also, the Marlins rankings do seem a little low, but I think the situation there is that a team like the Marlins doesn’t rely so much on talent as it does game management. Aside from Ramirez, and with Uggla on the decline, they don’t have an All-Star caliber position player. Meanwhile Josh Johnson is ridiculously good, however Nolasco is really the only other pitcher of any substance on the entire team. The way the Marlins win games is with game management and small ball. They finished a significant margin over .500 last year but that was not due to their players possession of dominant players. They exceeded expectations last year by playing a conservative type of baseball, advancing runners and playing smart, not by overpowering teams with hitting and pitching. The same could be said of the Giants. The Giants were on the playoff bubble last year, and finished 23 games ahead of the Diamondbacks, yet the Diamondbacks are ranked higher. However the Giants play a style of baseball that is conducive to winning in their home park. That doesn’t necessarily mean that the Giants players should be more skillful than the Diamondbacks, just that they won more games by playing a certain style.

So I think it will all come down to gameplay. Does it really matter that the Cardinals are ranked lower than the Cubs if you can consistently beat them with the Cards?

  • mikellllllll

phillies bats are better than the red sox!

    • http://twitter.com/Shaunheiser Shaun Heiser

I think the Red Sox were rated higher overall because they play in the most difficult division in baseball.

      • James Donovan

being a sox fan all my life, they do play in a more difficult division, the best teams in phillies division are florida and atlanta

  • jackson

how do the white sox cubs and diamond backs rank ahead of the giants here ill give u the wins for each team San Francisco 88 74 Chicago Cubs 83 78 Chicago Sox 79 83 Arizona 70 92 i mean the cubs ninth best really? or even better arizona w/ 70! this game is biased as hell!

  • jackson

    1 LA Dodgers 162 95 67 3.41 44 1 9 1473.1 82 558 611 584 1272 .233
2 San Francisco 162 88 74 3.55 41 11 18 1446.0 84 571 611 584 1302 .236 oh ya out of the entire mlb the giants deffinitly rank freakin 13th w/e mlb the show can suck it for always giving out horrible ratings year in and out

  • James Donovan

The Braves should be higher. I think Baltimore and Texas should be up there 2 they made improvements

  • James Donovan

tht is one of the must funniest things i have ever heard

  • James Donovan

calm down! ratings are ratings nothing u can do about it

  • james donovan

The Rangers should be 7th and the Orioles should be ahead of the Giants

  • Bryce H

is this a joke? giants 13th in pitching. they should be top 5 at the worst. and dodgers second in pitching?? randy wolf started game one in the playoffs for them! AND they didnt even get him back. kershaw is extreamly raw and billingsly needs to bouch back. tahts all they have. the giants have a great rotation and great bullpen. last year the giants were top 2 in starters era and top 2 in bullpen era, and each unit is just as good if not better than last year. GIANTS SHOULD BE TOP 5 IN PITCHING WITHOUT A DOUBT

  • Boss

they must not have damon on then tigers if they r 24

  • James Donovan

The Cardinals are alot better than the Cubs and they always will be but i agree with wat ur saying how its unfair the Cardinals are ranked behinfd the Cubs( i mean seriously the Cardinals make the playoffs alot more than the Cubs ever do)

    You know what's really shocking?
THE DIAMONDBACKS IN FRONT OF St. Louis and Seattle. WTF.

  • Mike

Huh. I don’t like my Padres behind on 25th like that.
For defensive issues, I think they could have given them a better rating (which is prolly why they got brought down) because PETCO park is HUGE.
They fare a lot better in away games.
Well, that’s just the fan’s point of view, but eh.
How recent are these rosters? Do they include people from last week and such?
I’ll guess I’ll be playing with my Phillies then.
