SCEA has released screenshots from MLB 10: The Show displaying the top rated players with the initial two positions of focus being first base and catcher. The cover athlete, Joe Mauer, as expected leads the catchers while first base is topped by Albert Pujols with several others trailing close behind in ranking.

The Show utilizes a bar system rather than a number to communicate the overall rating. Continue on to view the screenshots and leave your thoughts in the comments!

Im so glad 2k doesnt use the bar ratings. Sometimes it can be hard to tell how much better a player is than another one. Like obviously you can tell Mauer is better than martin, but how much better is molina than doumit, or molina over posada. I dont understand why they cant use numbers…..

    • Bob is blind

Because of people like you. You guys just want to get the best overall player and play instead of building a team strategically.

      • http://www.facebook.com/a.j.gadberry Anthony A.J. Gadberry

        your an idiot.

        • Bob is blind

Yeah I know it’s guys like you that SCEA doesn’t give numbers. They don’t want losers to get the highest overall player for each position and then cry about it when they lose. If you really knew baseball, you would know that it wouldn’t matter

  • yaowa

Ive always hated the bar. just give them an overall rating. smfh

  • BarryC

They are both weak defensively, so if you are saying Berkman is better in the clubhouse and as a leader on the field(and I will just give you that fact), that wont make up for the 20 less HR and 60 less Rbi…Don't overlook the fact Prince is 10 years younger…

  • McCarthy24

Miguel Cabrera is one of the top 5 first basemans in the league. batting .324 with 34 homers and 103 RBI's on a team which is not so great. He was also in the MVP talks to end the year so he deserves to be where he is.

  • Mykal94

I like the bar b/c if it’s hard to tell who’s better, you have to decide which player you want more. Is it Teixiera’s glove or Howard’s power?

derrek lee is better than adrian because a better year than him.
derrek lee .306 avg 35 hr 111 RBI

adrian gonzalez .277 avg 40 hr 99 RBI

    • Mo

Big fan of Lee’s, but he is “not” better than Gonzo. Put Gonzo in a Cubs uniform and watch HUGE #’s being put up and mvp competition for Albert.

      • sandul

ya A-Gon is amazing for getting those stats on the Padres.

      • Bob is blind

The problem with that is that it’s all assumption.

  • chucky
  • 2k rocks

MLB 10 The Show is not good. MLB 2k10 is way better

    • Foxmulder

      lol good one

    • Mo

You settle for 2nd best there guy!!

  • 22cowboys22

prince fielder and ryan howard? obviously this is based strictly on offense?

    • sandul

well their best stats are offense, and they are rated by their overall ability. mediocre defense + amazing offense is better than amazing defense and mediocre offense.

Case in point, Casey Kotchman is an elite defender, but is a .270 hitter who hits barely more than 10 homers.

This is most likely because there are a whopping 10 stats for offense (con R, con L, pwr R, pwr L, Clutch, visibility, discipline, baserunning, bunting, and 4 for defense (arm, acc, fld, reac)

Glad to see Brian McCann gettin some love

  • BU1B22

well than surely gonzalez should be higher. when u play for a struggling team like san diego and put up the numbers (.277 40 99) when there run scoring ability lacks, then u cant deny him out of the top 5

  • BU1B22

one of the best defensive catchers to go along with that

  • Mo

Your “nuts”!!! Cabrera should be 2nd. You must must be a kid!!!! Watch the games before commenting sonny!!!!

  • Mo

I'll agree with that – finally you got something right. Gonzo should be 4th after big Tex.

  • Mo

Berkman was injured often and had a rough year by his standards. Fielder was a Prince and was in the top 5 of mvp balloting. Should be 5th after Gonzo.

  • Mo

    Amen, Mike!!! I agree!!!!

  • Mo

No way!!! You kidding?!?! No way is Martin better than McCann. I think they got it right for the most part. Little surprised Yadier is up that high (4th), but he is awesome behind the plate. Also, someone said Martin is consistent – huh? He went from 19 to 13 to 7 HR's in the last 3 years and from hitting .293 to .250 — that is not my idea of consistency.

  • JPZX

cant believe adrian gonzalez is that far down

    • sandul

      I agree, he’s top 5 material.

      • Bob is blind

        Pujols
        Howard
        Fielder
        Tex
        Miguel
        Berkman

They all consistently put up better numbers than Gonzalez. Gonzalez is very good, however the argument that he plays on a crappy team is just assumption. You are assuming that if he played for the Yankees/Redsox/Angels/Phillies that he would have amazing numbers

  • Mo

In a fantasy draft I would take Pujols first of coarse if I were so lucky, but next I would take Mauer. Just look at the screenshot of the top 9 !B and catchers. Look at the difference in overall rating between Pujols at 1 and Gonzo at 9 — it is about the same difference between Mauer at 1 and McCann at 2. Wow, that surprised me – I know there are other positions, but I bet after Pujols and Mauer there is no one ranked as high other than Hanley Ramirez or Tim Lincecum. I sure hope they released more positions today.

  • Russell Martin Sucks

What the hell are you smoking? McCann, Martinez, Wieters etc. are way better that horrible Russell Martin

  • Russell Martin Sucks

Yeah, right. I'll bet you 2k10 developers smoke weed more than they work on the actual game. Have you seen The Show 2krocks, or have you been smoking weed like the 2k10 developers seem to be doing. The Show beats out 2k in almost everything imaginable.

  • Russell Martin Sucks

Yeah, McCann is very good. Nearly as good as Mauer.

  • Brandon

detek lee hit .306, 35 HR, with 111 RBI along with being a premiere defensive first baseman, while adrian hit .277, with 40 HR, and 119 RBI, i would call it almost a wash, which is what it looks like.

  • Brandon

99 RBI for adrian…so that makes it even more in favor for Lee, but adrian obviously has the upside factor, because of his youth.

  • Dan

    sssssssssssswwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeettttttttttttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dan

watz up with texaria over prince feilder?

  • Dan

watz up with texaria over prince feilder?

  • ande3243

I think Morneau needs to slide in behind Cabrera – -> then Adrian. It is preposterous to have Derek Lee ahead of those two guys.

  • Russell_Martin_Sucks

How did Russell Martin even make that list?

  • Ben

How in the hell are Lee, Youkilis and Berkman better than Justin Mormeau? I know he got hurt and missed the last month in '09 but that can't mean that damn much. Pujols is the only one I'd say is clearly a better player and he is far, far better of course. Howard and Fielder can hit homeruns but can also strike out almost 200 times, hit about .250 and can't play defense. Teixeira is a very close comparison but he's a Yankee and that speaks for itself. Such is life when you play for the Twins. Unless you're easily the best in the league and possibly all-time you don't get a whole lotta love.

  • BucFan1512

Justin Morneau? His numbers were better than Berkmans but o well I guess.

  • ande3243

Albert needs his own rating system because he's absolutely head and shoulders better than the rest of the elite 1st basemen and this system does not distinguish that.

  • ande3243

Prince is a home skillet in the field. Switch hitting 1B like Tex with a closet full of gold gloves, shouldn't even be close when compared to Prince.

  • ande3243

True dat, chicks dig the long ball!

  • jt2226

justin morneau wowwww, that just blows my mind he isnt in the top 5 let alone the top 10

  • White Sox

    What about A.J Pezinski

  • White Sox

    Wow what about A.J. Pezinski

  • Ben

I guess this dude really wants to know about A.J. Pezinski

  • yankswin27

A-Gon is underrated at first base, but the ratings overall look good. As for catcher, Bengie Molina and Ryan Doumit? Say WHAT? I'll take guys like Napoli, Suzuki, even Geo Soto over those two.

  • Matt

How does Joe Mauer have only half a bar for power? He did, after all, hit 30 homeruns last year!
