MLB 2K10 Demo Videos

After a lengthy process my first HD videos of the MLB 2K10 demo are now live. The recording is one of the first times I played through and it was 3am so there are a few quirks. For example there is a stretch where I throw three or four consecutive wild pitches not realizing I was doing the changeup motion instead of the fastball motion. Also I started rushing things near the end of the second video as I was trying to complete the demo within the 10 minute time limit placed on uploads. I’m continuing to post some impressions on Twitter and my full article with everything gathered will be posted tomorrow. Continue on to check out the videos and leave your thoughts in the comments!

  • batchmaker

Pasta..that first at bat with shane did you try to go the other way with the pitch or did the game dictate the hit? Thanks bro

  • http://pastapadre.com/ pastapadre

I *think* I was trying to go with the pitch and slap it into right field, came in on my hands though.

Hey pasta, just so you know: Youtube will give you up to 11 minutes even though they only advertise 10 minute limits. I found this out from someone a while ago, and have been doing this ever since on my youtube videos. I am nadasfan on youtube if you want to check out my 11 minute vids for reference.

  • http://pastapadre.com/ pastapadre

BTW I will be referencing a play in the second video in my impressions as one of the AI issues I've come across. You'll see me try to turn a double play, but the pitcher stands by the mound instead of covering first so I don't get it.

  • Rodwall

Finally a decent walk off homerun animation too…

  • http://twitter.com/foocards88 Craig Cutler

I like how after Utley touches home plate, he decides to stop, no walk, no run to the dugout. This game is still going to disappoint.

  • http://pastapadre.com/ pastapadre

    Yeah that looks awkward

  • BOB

Why anyone with a PS3 would buy this over the Show is beyond me. Stadiums look goo but the players suck, and whats up with the numbers onthe jersey's? 2k=lame yet again

  • Trojan92

Is it me or do the player models look like little leaguers?

  • llll

pasta you are the biggest 2k hater in the world it is absolutely rediculous

  • Big Daddy Trings

While the game looks much improved from last year, I still cant imagine buying this game over the Show. I mean, how can 2k get every little thing right visually in NBA2k10 but fail to get player models close to correct in this game? And let's not even mention the jersey numbers. I does seem more fluid and much less of an abortion from 2k9, but it is still MILESSSSS away from the Show. And this is from someone who will fight you if you think Live is better than 2K, I'm not a 2k-Basher like some on this site.

  • 2k rocks

I agree, the game does play pretty clean

  • gomagic

the demo is fun and i am impressed with what they were able to do for a year.

So let me put this simply:
-If you have a PS3 (or both), get The Show and be happy. Its the most polished baseball game out there.

-If you have 360 only, you will be getting the best baseball sim to date on the console and it will be a solid experience. It wont be as polished as The Show, but it be a good, solid baseball title.

  • Enrique

please STFU. posting videos of a demo now constitutes hating?

BTW anyone that is a hater of 2k after the last couple years has good reason and right to be.

  • J22

    2K Fanboy ALERT!

  • rovaira

Looks good, thanks for sharing this.

  • Dan

Ok let me first say MLB 10 The Show is the better baseball game by far. I am just sick of Pastapadre pointing out every flaw of the demo for 2K. 2K know they had a bad game last year, but they worked hard this year making it better. Once again MLB 10 The Show is much better, just lay off man. If the Show demo came out, even if you saw a flaw, I bet you would not tweet it.

  • oliver

thanks for the videos pasta. agree that homeruns are happening way too much but cpu still hasnt hit a single one. and damn the giant numbers lol

  • lolol

well ask pasta who he thinks makes a better basketball game and hell downright shame you for saying 2k10 is better. he gets freebies from ea and shit so obviously hes going to lick their balls every year. good looking out pasta the more you put negative comments on twitter the more people realize how good the game will really be. peace hater

  • ur a loser

why would he. it would go against his MO. hes out for himself and shows no open mind toward anything by anybody but ea and sony. im sure hell see the error of his selfishness soon enough. hey pasta if 2k sent you a new FLESHLIGHT like ea, would you write a good review hahahaha

  • Dan

Yes I know I am a huge Show fan but this is crazy.

  • http://twitter.com/Valdarez Valdarez

Definitely wait for his comments tomorrow. Then you'll be able to complain about his bias against 2K Sports. ;)

  • ande3243

Gameplay looks pretty smooth, but the default camera mode just doesn't look right to me. Since it's set so far back, it just looks odd with not having a catcher there – - > which obviously they can't put in b/c it would obstruct your ability to see the pitch. If I was a 2K guy I think I'd have to adjust that…

  • Amen Ra

You lick 2k balls for free so what does that make you? Relax duke, just respect the site fro what it is.

  • Amen Ra

I don't know about the rest of you guys but besides the large names and numbers on the back of the jersey the game doesn't look that bad. Look I”m a big fan of The Show, but it ain't exactly flawless either. I think this game looks very much improved and with some graphical improvements it is on it's way to being a respectable game.

By respectable I mean an 8.0+ on Gamespot. I give no other game rating site credibility.

So the pitcher doesn't cover 1st on the possible double play from the 1st baseman?!?!??!? Are you kidding me?!?!?!?!? Man am I glad I gave up on this crap a couple of years ago. The Show is much more polished.

  • MattHolliday_7

    I give the demo a 7.5 out of 10.

  • jinx

the game is going to be outstanding

  • sandul

you're not the real bob, stfu, only 1 bob is allowed to be an asshole.

  • sandul

Anyone else see the similarity between the gameplay of the 2k series and the Bigs? The camera angles are extreme, trying to make baseball seem action packed… when baseball is about patience, timing, and strategy. This didn't seem like it had any of this… oh well.

the gameplay looked fun though… i can't see myself picking up both the show and this…

    PASTAPADRE-
Is the show not allowed to implement the Yankee HUD as seen in the demo where it tells you the players stats for an 0-1 count, 0-2 count, etc?

  • Mike

    LOL hahhh

  • sandul

    Pastapadre:

I'd call bullshit on the 2 home runs… but it's chase utley… he kinda did that… in 2 separate games last postseason… heh.

  • baconslayer09

I hate how there's no celebration at all after solo home runs. The guy just runs back into the dugout.

  • adam42381

I'm a PS3 owner and huge fan of The Show, but I'm not going to knock 2K after seeing the demo videos. It looks like it will be a very solid game after the past couple major failures. I'm still only buying The Show, but I won't feel as bad for 360 owners for being stuck with this one. I'd give the demo videos a 7/10.

  • Big Lebowski

    IMO

    PROS –

really like the statistical side of the presentation. Little things like that are nice to develop good games
The defensive swing is a nice add on, being able to take 2 strike pitches out and away from you is a nice touch
I actually liked the AI's discipline at the plate while i toyed with the corners and what not

    CONS -
the fielding looks like pee wee players are fielding the ball. Nothing is fluid from the initial contact of ball entering the glove to the throws.
the double play was delayed every time I had it don't know if anyone else had this problem
I had a chance to rob a home run, however, i kept pressing the button and nothing would happen, no jump attempt.

Overall I will still buy a PS3 exclusively for the Show. Plus the rosters that a certain individual creates for the Show is amazing in detail to every minor leaguer.

yea I agree with you but its not worth it for me to spend 300 bucks to get a ps3 just to play a game.. I just can’t stand it though.. MLB 10 the show looks absolutely amazing! 2k10 looks like its 5 years behind.. its kind of sad actually. Look at the jerseys in 2k10, they are still stuck on the bodies. they have to make them more loose for realism. Even 2k6 and 2k7 had better jersey movement. At this rate, 2k won’t be able to catch up til atleast mlb 2k12.

  • Castor Troy

I agree with Adam, being an xbox360 owner I was encouraged by this demo. Definitely seems to be a nice upgrade over the past 2 years. The biggest factor for me will be online play. If there is lag online then the game is almost pointless if you can't play against your friends. Pasta any details on the online play or prevelance of lag?

    • Anonymous

How can you say the game is pointless if you can’t play online? They can’t seem to create a playable baseball game for the last few years & you’re talking about online gameplay being the only point to the game?? How about making a playable baseball game first?

  • geolink2349

    Looks like an arcade game.

  • floridagatorfan

It looks better than I expected, but it just is missing some things. The sounds just are a bit off for me in comparison to The Show. However the thing that annoys me the most watching the video is how slow a 90 mph fastball looks. It looks like a changeup the way it drops.

Overall though this looks pretty good, though I will be getting The Show.

  • rob

If you mean boring instead of patience, and boring instead of strategy, I agree 100% with you!

  • rob

OMG, the world is ending. Something that isn't gameplay related sucks. waaa!

  • rob

    EA fanboy alert!

  • BU1B22

had the same thing happen to me

  • t. daley

OK, so tell me what video game IS FLAWLESS. Once again another dumb comment. Also you claim to be a Show Fan and you acknowledge that 2k LOOKS improved. By estimation improved doesn't trump the show so why bother with this post at all.

There is no way on this planet that MLB2k will put out a game after 2 epic failures and suddenly be competive to the Show that has steadily and sytematically improved each of its past 3 years.

Its time for a reality check people. MLB2k will be a servicable game at best and probably wont be much better than MLB2k7 was back in the day. All of you dreamers and 2k fanboys need to wakeup and get real. The Show has and will continue to rule the roost, much like NBA2k continues to rule the basketball landscape.

  • Amen Ra

Look, if you don't like the comment why the fuck would you reply to it?

I see you on here You're always trying to call someone's post dumb and shit but you make the dumbest comments, so you can get off my nuts.

bitch I never said 2K would be competitive to the Show, I said they could make a respectable game. So once again get off my nuts duke and STFU

  • Anonymous

im starting to feel that people sure dont like to give 2k credit for improvement. they seem to have put out a far improved product from the last couple years, and people r still mad that one thing isnt working right. the way i see it, if its functional, its a start, and its worth some praise. with the show being the leader in baseball gaming, its hard to make improvements on a game. thats because u cant outright make a game perfect after the year they had. its gonna be a couple years before they get it right. just give them credit for actually turning down the right street

    • oliver

I dont give credit for things that should never have been a problem being fixed. Seriously the year is 2010, I shouldnt have to be told that improvements to the game include “now fly balls are caught”.

  • sandul

oh man i totally misread your post, i'm SOOOO sorry… you were clearly bashing 2k. my bad.

  • sandul

you think the show is boring? then stick to these other games, that's fine. it's your opinion.

  • lame

it looks just like 2k7 to me

  • Anonymous

this demo looks pretty damn good and the rating are also really good so far other than rollins 89 and jeter 87, but compared to the show the ratings are awesome.
