Your Early Thoughts on MLB 10: The Show

With MLB 10: The Show now out here is an opportunity to post some thoughts on the game. There are still no reviews published which is somewhat surprising especially combined with the lack of a demo but for the most part there remains strong consumer confidence in the product. I’ll be spending time with the game over the next few days posting videos, impressions, and especially focusing on the online play performance. You can follow me on Twitter where I’ll be noting some things as I go through the process before pulling everything together. So feel free to drop any impressions or observations on MLB 10: The Show in the comments!

What batting difficulty are u using. Maybe I just suck. Lol. Thanks for the info I am striking out like 12 times a game.

Best sim? If the AI trade logic, lineup logic, waiver logic and player potentials are so screwed up as to make it unplayable as a franchise, it's hardly much of a sim.

The engine needs changed. They've been avoiding it for years and it really shows.

The Show's pitching plays like the real thing?

How is looking at a meter hovering above the action and not even paying attention to the strikezone like pitching? You may as well be playing as a kicker in a football game, because it's the exact same thing. Considering how this is such a big part of the game, it doesn't feel anything like baseball. Where is the emphasis on mechanics, balance, getting the arm started at the right time and hitting the catcher's mitt?

I'm on All-Star. I think the strikeout issue goes hand in hand with the HR situation. It's when you get too aggressive and don't have a good enough feel for the strikezone. Focus on the zone, be patient, and you'll make better contact and the HR's will come.

One more thing. When I say too aggressive I should have clarified that I mean swinging too early, as well as out of the zone, etc. If you hang back an extra couple of milliseconds you'll see pitches better, have better timing, and make better contact. Don't give up on the game. It's fantastic, once things get going for you. It may be worth taking it down a level to start, so the frustration doesn't build up. Anyhow, good luck, I hope it gets better for you.

Wow. What is with all the trolls? There is no need for insults on a blog like this. If you disagree with their opinion, just say you disagree. There's no need to belittle them.

Now here's my quesion, and I hope to be answered in a civilized way. The franchise rankings posted in a previous blog had the Cardinals franchise ranked 17th (pretty low if you ask me). But I just got the game, and they are actually ranked 30th! (Wtf?). I haven't noticed any comments about this so I'm wondering if I got a buggy disk (it's happened before).

Please do not bash the Cardinals if you reply. They are my favorite team, but I would understand the ranking if the players on the team really did suck as bad as the game says they do. Thanks for input.

I forgot to mention that I live in the stone age and don't have an internet connection to my PS3. So downloading a roster update won't solve my problem.

Once again, 2k10 is completely outclassed. The graphics look like a game produced during the first year of Xbox360. The Show is outrageously realistic, something that 2k cannot due with their baseball games. The hitstick is broken, imo, because you can swing with power each time without consequence. That is by no means authentic. The way the ball comes off the bat in The Show is unparalleled, and the pitching and fielding is spot on. The only reason 2k10 stepped it up this year is because they pretty much copied the presentation from The Show, as well as “My Player.” The fielding in 2k10 is piss poor. The last game I played, each time a ball was hit in the hole at short or second, the fielder would make the play and magically stop right in their tracks, as if they were walking to the ball. The Show uses REAL physics, not some stop and go garbage like 2k10. For anyone to say that 2k10 is superior to The Show obviously is not good at judging the quality of a sports videogame. The only gripe I have with The Show is that the hitting can be VERY difficult on the higher difficulties, but, I guess hitting in Major League Baseball isn't simple in real life. 2k needs to stick to basketball games. I'm lucky enough to own both consoles and I don't even consider buying 2k baseball because each year the game is released with loads of bugs and impossible online play. The players look SOOOOO fake, the jerseys are SOOOO off. Whats up with the player numbers covering their entire back? lol Jkizzlenuts is a fool and apparently only has a 360 and attempts to justify his purchase. Play The Show and you won't say 2k10 is a good game. The Show outclasses 2k10 is EVERY category possible….I guess the people who need an arcade-like baseball with childish gameplay and 20 hits a game and 7hrs should look at 2k10. If you want quality, realism, and a game that captures this sport better than any other sports title captures its own then buy The Show.
