NCAA Football 11 Focus Outlined

EA Sports has released a new blog, one that outlines the general philosophy and areas that have been concentrated on for NCAA Football 11. Though it doesn’t include any new reveals it does provide the opportunity to get a feel for the goals that the NCAA team is hoping to hit on this year. Those are cited as the core experience, authenticity, and innovation. You can check out the full blog posting here.

At the end of the day we all know what ultimately matters in a football video game is what happens on the field. Controller in hand, heart pounding, clock running down, season on the line. That’s where it all counts. Running, blocking, passing, it all has to perform and perform well. It’s the foundation upon which all other major game modes are built; dynasty, career, etc. As a long time fan of NCAA Football, it’s clear that great core gameplay is fundamental to a great game experience.

I’ve mentioned it before, and it may considered as something under the “authenticity” unbrella, but I’ve found the most glaring element of the game to be lacking is emotion. That is part presentation, part atmosphere, part drama…all that have been missing this generation and especially stood out to me in NCAA 10. I’m not sure NCAA needs more in the way of “innovation” this year, lately the series has been used to introduce new modes and features more so than refining the gameplay and overall experience. I would like it to use the pro tak system that madden 10 used and slowing the game down a notch would help the gameplay as well. Madden 10 was really enjoyable this year even for novice players like myself. When I played online in Madden against more experienced players, I always felt like I was in the game and I had a chance to come back because of the pace of the game. NCAA 11 needs to slow down a bit and bring back emotion to the college game!!

I could not agree with you more Pasta. The game lacks a personality. It plays too much like a simulation without the feeling that every College Football game on a Saturday has. If the game can (re)capture that, which I think it had with the gimmicky pump-up-the-crowd feature in 05-06(?) versions, then the game will take a much appreciated step forward.

Dude pro-tak is not even football. I don't even know why they wasted all their time putting it in the game. It looks like rugby if anything.

Half the time when you're pro-takking someone anyways you have 5 guys tackling the RB and then he breaks loose for an 80 yard TD.

The gameplay is so pathetic in madden it's sad to see.

Atmosphere and gameplay is needs to be the focus for NCAA 11. Drop “Season Showdown” because that was a waste and no one really play those games.

Here is what I want.

Gameplay:
1. Slow the game down. 2. Have a option where we can choose to play sim like what they did in Madden 06 meaning you can't do onside kicks or go for 4th downs unless you have to. Also have a Sim lobby for this too. 3. Make the accellerated clock more like Madden 10. I hate the Chew clock because we couldn't adjust it it.

Presentation:
1. Different broadcast crew. ESPN/ABC. If NCAA Basketball 10 could do it with ESPN/CBS why not the football game? 2. College Gameday Show. 3. Put the referees in this game for once. 4. Players with dreads.

Folllow Madden's footsteps which you guys already do yearly. Introduce the TV presentation from college basketball (RIP) and add in that all important “emotional” aspect of the game and youve got a winner. Even though as a yearly buyer I am pleased with the 10 version and still play it alot.

PS: EA can we take the presentation cam from MLB the Show? The whole constant focus on the field with minimal breaks works wonders for the realism.

Cmon EA, so far all talk and no quality. These guys are bragging about stuff that shouldn't have been taken out of the game in the 1st place. In game saves? Thanks but you're half a decade behind. I used to be an EA fanboy. I followed the blogs last year and then we get this “Oh look at our field goal nets” shit. What do you have next year lined up. Maybe you might brag about taking out the mascot games and putting in the Mini games like option attack that you guys had years ago.

Despite it being a horrible game, the NCAA Basketball got the presentation down pat. They need to do that and make this game feel like a college football game. Instead of adding more dumb innovations, fix the crap game that they are producing. While most enjoy Teambuilder, I thought it was a waste as they wasted way too much time putting together that project. Enough with the innovations and make this a good game once again after a number of years

i dont mind these blogs about gameplay, but as a first impression i wish they wouldve told us something bigger and better, even if they couldnt tell us much about it (which they keep saying “better things to come” and these are just “small additions”)

College football in not faster than the NFL in no way. It may seem that way because it's more spirited and exciting than the NFL but it's definitely not faster. Most of the players in college could not hang with most NFL players. I'm sure if you ask any NFL player what is the biggest change from college to the NFL. I'm sure all of them would say the speed of the game is much faster. If you don't believe me then pay attention and watch a college game on Saturday then watch a NFL game on Sunday. There's a big difference in game speed!!!!

I agree with Buckeyeboi. The college game is not near as fast the NFL game. You don’t even have to watch, just listen to interviews from Rookie “QB”s. They will tell you which is faster

NFL game speed is faster. But athlete speed in college is much faster. In NFL, you got some select burners/speedsters on every team like Devin Hester, Jamal Charles, Desean Jackson , Jeremy Maclin, Felix Jones, Randy Moss, Calvin Johnson etc. In college you got all that speed on one team, like the Florida Gators do right now on their roster. Their big guys(defensive tackles, defensive ends, offensive linemen) can all run with their speedy guys running out of the shotgun and set some huge lead blocks and all you need with Jeff Demps speed is one block to spring him and he is gone.

There's a reason College Football is by far the most popular collegiate sport and even more popular than some professional sports. Those three words are the reason.

they need to improve the ball carriers running animation. They run too much like robots. Also the quarterbacks throwing animation. In campus legend u should be able to return punts and kicks and there should be better play calling. There should be post game celebrations and pre game traditions like u of m touching the go blue banner. If they could add some more realistic animations that would be great too. They need to make more plays. They keep giving u the same plays every year except for some new ones like four verticals and the wild cat plays. But thats not enough. I am a huge fan of college football and i think they could make this game a lot better, although it is already good. They should just focus on gameplay and presentation this year.

I couldn't agree more with you Pasta. They need to concentrate big time on upgrading presentation/authenticity and not even worry about innovation this year. They've done a ton of innovating over the last few years. Concentrate on making the gameplay authenticity better…. like Madden did last year. I promise you sales will go up if you just work on making the gameplay/presentation golden.

I agree… the gameplay is a bit stale… they should revamp it a bit… the animations should change to become more like real players…the plays haven't changed for a while…

I'm done believing the hype around this game. It used to be my go-to game, the one I wouldn't put down until the next one came out, but now it's basically a joke to me.

Unless I hear some seriously glowing reports about dynasty mode and the overall atmosphere of the game in the weeks after it's released, you can count me among those who will probably never waste my money or time again.

Time to step up EA.

Make the crowd more realistic like when a player gets hit hard the crowd should react with a roar of ooo's and ahh's like damn that was a hard hit and hard hit's should be in replay's too. I think the Teams should have entrances that would be the best…And have spring games like how the ps2 ncaa version had it i think the ps2 ncaa is better then the ps3 ncaa version.

No it's not. The NFL has the top athletes in the country. College isn't faster. There is just a bigger disparity between super fast players and average speed players. Ask any NFL athlete what's different about college vs the NFL and they'll tell you that it's the game speed

I just took their online survey. If you haven't done it already then what are you waiting for? I wrote this blog entry last night http://mgreenhaw.blogspot.com concerning a troubling issue with TeamBuilder my nephew ran into the other night. Overall, I think they are on the right track with game play but I think they need to get rid of “Fourth quarter computer cheat mode” LOL.

About 2 months ago, I was playing in my Seahawks franchise in the superbowl. I threw a 58 yard touchdown to win in overtime.The commentary? “and he's in for the touchdown. The final score of the game is, 27-21″.

Seroiusly. If that's the atmosphere you get from throwing what in real life would have been one of the greatest plays ever, how can Madden consider itself even a halfway decent game. Commentary is clueless, and there is no atmosphere. They cant even get crowd noise right. Crowds will cheer at the end of an 80 yard td run, but in real life, the reach the max volume just after the RB has broken free. Madden assumes the fans watching the game are as clueless, as well, the play by pay.

E.A i love your college football games i have every singal one. If your trying to get help with making the game better than please listen to my opions. My dad and me love ncaa football 10 we play it all the time, one thing we hate more than any thing is not being able to throw the ball when your getting dragged down by a deffender. another thing we hate is when the ball hits a deffensive back in the the hands more than twice and him not catch it. the last thing is making it more realalistic on the field and off like doing more cricual activities with your players in dynasty and making custom sounds for the highlights when they come on at half time. thats all i have faith in you to make a badass college football game, thanks for reading and go S.E.C
