Are You Satisfied With The Baseball Games This Year?

No one can reasonably expect a perfect game, there will never be one. However consumers do have a right to expect a finished game. What we have this year, with MLB 2K10 and MLB 10: The Show, are arguably unfinished games. They certainly at least released that way, with The Show needing a patch to clear up some big franchise problems and freezes while 2K10 needed one just so people could play online ranked games without getting stuck and having to restart their consoles. And in the case of the multi-platform MLB 2K10 they have chosen to neglect the PS3 version by not releasing the patch there.

However, even after the recent patches that have released, both games have pressing issues that remain. Just to mention a few: In 2K10 there is essentially no managerial AI in My Player mode, fielder arm strength is off the charts, and the lag in online play requires the user to commit to swinging before the pitch can even be read. The Show still is plagued with instances of freezing, various bugs in franchise mode, and the online play is once again a major weakness for the series. While both games can probably be pegged as “good” they certainly have their share of problems to go along with their strengths. Still the excellence of The Show’s gameplay and authenticity and 2K10′s fun factor shouldn’t be overlooked despite these things.

So, the question is, how do you feel about this year’s crop of MLB games? Are you ultimately satisfied with them or do you find yourself frustrated by what is lacking or the problems they’ve had? Vote in the polls and leave your thoughts in the comments!

Not happy with The Show this year. All the franchise bugs and freezing go along with them really not improving the game or adding anything new. I wouldve been better off staying with MLB 09 this year if it werent for the rosters.

  • TNOT

I bought both. Disappointed with both. Combine what they are good at and it would be nearly perfect. 2K10s commentary, The Shows gameplay. They both need help with online though.

The fact that MLB the Show came out and said Online play was a priority (I commend them for that), and it not being up to par combined with the franchise bugs and everything is unacceptable to me. Due to their involvement in the community and constant feedback I will continue to support them and observe how they handle things moving forward.

MLB 2K10 made some great progress this year. We all knew they weren't going to take last years game and turn it into The Show over night so they definitely satisfied the expectations I had for them.

  • HustlinOwl

    30 team control = satisfaction

  • Jd

in MLB 2k10 the game freezes on the coverboy.

  • Weirdo

I have The Show and I'm freaking pissed that my RTTS won't advance past a certain date, it'll just stay there. The thing that bothers me the most is that it was a problem last year as well for some people. What the hell is that?

  • Sportsgamer

Its the same with Football, basketball and baseball. I dont care about hockey, so i dont know about that sport.

Football is by far the worse out of all 3 of the sports i named. Baseball games both of them are far ahead of Football by a big margin.

  • okafor43

Very dissatisfied, they have a year to make a game right and they produce a product filled with bugs and many other problems, no excuses and its not like they are making a drastic change to the game

The only people who say they aren't satisfied with MLB 2K10 either don't have the game, or they are Sony fanboys.

  • Amen Ra

Too many bugs. I”m sick of this “workaround” shit. Fuck that, make a complete game when did it become the buyer's burden to learn how to make the fucking game work properly.

  • shame

NO ! and will not be buying either next year.

  • mattcolby

Boy Pasta, you opened up a can of worms with this article. Time for all the nitpicking and bitching to begin!

Simply put, MLB 10: The Show is a solid game. Is it perfect? No. Sports games that release every year with only a one year development cycle are never perfect. Is that an excuse? Maybe. But when I put my game in and play it, I am still amazed at what a great representation of the sport this game is. Pure and simple.

I'm even giving Franchise mode a try now that the patch has been released. Is it perfect? Certainly not. But is it still fun? Yes. There's so much going on under the hood in franchise mode that it's a wonder they get anything right. Text based sims try and simulate transactions at this depth and still have problems. So at the very least, it's a valiant effort made by the developers to get it right.

This is still a great playing game of baseball and I'm still noticing cool details with every playthrough (like the Opening Day sign on the field changing years as you progress through franchise). It's the little things that make this game great.

So I guess I'm in the minority when I say I'm “Very Satisfied”, but then again I don't play games looking for all the things I can nitpick about. I play them to have fun. And this game is just that…fun.

This Pasta Padre is such a hater. He thinks he is better than any magazine or reviewer out there. lol. It's so funny. IGN and Gamespot (both great websites) and they've rated The Show great, with little flaws that can be over looked. You just love attention.

  • TheTruthHurts

yet you come and read his blog? gtfo hater… lol ign and gamespot.

  • so what

IGN & Gamespot are cupcakes when it comes to reviews….. never ripped a game …..ever

  • PostG

thanks pasta for staying on these companies. it bothers me that no other website follows how they do, i guess because they are worried about having access to early previews and things like that.

  • Wosten

dont think im disappointed with 2k10. its not like anyone could have high expectations of that beforehand. its a decent game im having fun with but still isnt as good as one would hope.

  • ken

interesting to see how many people really arent all that excited about the show this year. i had a feeling there were some (bugs and lack of new features) but it looks like next year will be a turning point for the show. if they dont step it up they could be in trouble.

  • blondeviking64

So what are the Franchise bugs in the show? I havent seen any yet. Nor have I had any freezes yet. I never play sports games online, except fifa, because I prefer to play the game closer to how it would be realistically and most players seem not to do that. But as far as problems with the game, I have yet to encounter a big one. There are things I find annoying. Like when a player gets injured in game it almost always says something about how he was going to try and play through some injury or other. But I havent noticed anything major. Is there something I should look out for or is this game solid as I suspected just that it doesnt do any major jump out at you changes from last years game? (by the way there are improvements in mechanics, player motion, and actual game play that I did notice from last years game)

  • blondeviking64

    what are the franchise bugs?

  • blondeviking64

Or they didnt like it that much. Whats up with all the insane 2k fan boys? This website has shown me that people are obnoxious about being locked into this game company vs that game company and its all so stupid. Go out to the parking lot and have a nice no weapons fight and be over it. You go back and forth like preteen girls fighting over the last shirt on the sale rack at Glitter or some gay store. I swear Im so sick of it. Play whatever game you want and I could care less which it is. Just get a life.

  • Amen Ra

You must not read Gamespot very often. I always think they have great reviews. I have never bought a game from them rated 8.5 or higher and been disappointed. IGN are on the EA payrool. Everyone know's that much.

  • blondeviking64

i started my franchise before the patch and still am unaware of the “bugs” everyone was talking about. I also have enjoyed this game greatly because its a pretty fun game. The first time a fan tumbled out of the stand to catch a foul ball I saved the replay because that was cool. I play games for fun also.

  • Pasta works for EA

What I want to know is why Pasta EA Padre never writes articles like these for EA games. I can name you a shit load of bugs in all EA Sports games and yet Pasta Padre never bashes the people that give him free games. I can't blame you for that. But just come out and say it and stop making shit up. Everybody knows that you are a lacky for EA. Be real about it and maybe just maybe you wont come off looking like a total douche.

You were wrong about the patch for the show taking into late April. But yet you will tell all your 10 geek followers that it was due to your blog that they released the patch fast.. HAHAHA

You reported that EA was going to sue South Park then said that you were contacted by EA…Yea ookkkk

and they told you they would not…But then on your twitter you tell the world that you cannot believe other sites are still saying they would sue even though they told you they were not.

And I come to this site to just tell it like it is. So that the noobs here who think you acutally have inside sources can see that you are just a lacky for EA and really do not know much shit about sports games.

Like who the fuck cares about your mock draft…Really…are you next going to tell us that you get info from the NFL Network….Hahahahah

  • TNOT

    lol idiot

  • DjNunez

Why are you writing, literally, LETTERS of bullshit thinking YOU know anything, YOU look like a douche, not Pasta. If you don't like Pasta's entry's so much then here's an idea, GET OFF THE FUCKING SITE ASSHOLE! You'll save everyone the drama we don't need.

  • Derrick

thanks for listing out some of the problems with the games, i hate how some want to ignore them. both games disappointed me this year.

  • conner

damn you are a dumbass. scea says they arent starting to work on a patch until after they take a vacation, thats information to pass along. pasta corrects a story that was made up by some other website. good information again. im sure he appreciates you visiting the site though lol

  • SDwinder

Gameplay and presentation are fantastic in The Show 10, and a defintie upgrade over 09. Very challenging on default Veteran skill level for both pitching and batting, with all Sliders at default. I have played 40 Exhibition off-line games using the Angels and all their Starting 5 pitchers against the top teams and their top starting pitchers. My Batting Average is .265 with a little over a HR a game, and two doubles a game. I have about 15 Triples too. I average over 4 Runs a game. My ERA is 3.65, and my Won-Loss is just under .500, but getting better as I get more disciplined and make adjustments. I have scored 10 Runs in a game, and been Shutout. Lots of game variety. Lots of close games. Best baseball sim game yet. As for online play, League and Franchchise stuff, I will have to defer to others, as I havent explored those modes yet. I know there were some bugs on release. Have those been fixed with the latest patch?

  • amen ra fail

obviously you have no clue what you are talking about. gamespot hasn't been reputable since they fired Jeff Gerstmann for refusing to write a favorable review about a game that was advertising heavily on their site. Gerstmann was the only good thing gamespot had going in that he always wrote honest reviews.

Anybody on their staff that was worth a damn quit after that and that was like 2 years ago.

    Have fun at gamespot.

  • Amen Ra

Bitch shut yo punk ass up.

First off you a faggot for even being on Twitter reading about another dude's life.

#2 all these video games suck putting out the same shit, but what The Show did this year was the worst I have ever seen!!!

    #3 Fuck you

  • erich

some franchise stuff fixed but others still need workarounds. some freezes still happening. and online isnt any better now then it was at release time.

  • nike21

dont speak too soon dude…..you never know what they have for next year….either more bugs or one hell of a turn around…
