Latest Madden 11 Gameplay Footage

A couple new videos has been released showing off directly captured footage of Madden 11 using the demo matchup courtesy of Gamespot. For anyone who missed the details of the demo, which arrives on July 27th, those can be found here. While there were a lot of gameplay videos that came out of E3 one of the difficulties with that environment is getting the audio across. With these not only is there cleanly captured footage to assess the gameplay from but you can better evaluate the commentary and other audio elements. (Update) Hearing that the commentary was cut back for the demo build, not sure if that explains the bad delay however. While the commentary was far from stellar in the E3 build I do remember it at least being better than what comes through in these videos.

Hopefully it's not just me when I say that Gus Johnson sounds waaay off. I love his work to death but he is so late in the commentary! Thanks for telling me he's trying to turn the corner 3 seconds after he did! (and what's up the the “Lester” comment! The dude's last name is Leonhard!) I also understand that they read off a script (which I wish they wouldn't), but just in case no one knew that, Gus is great enough to SOUND like he's reading off a script. Still somewhat excited about the game; he's got to be better than Hammond, but I wish they'd let him do a more freestyle-like commentary (like he did when they let him commentate with people from different gaming sites). Pasta is there any way you can find out if this is how he'll sound (with the late reaction commentary) when the final build comes out?

not to mention Edwards first catch where he spins into the guy but because of the animation the guy cant tackle him. Game is gonna be the exact same cuz EA is so dependent on animations.

Absolutely nothing to be impressed about here. Looks like every year of Madden and While I'll say Johnson is more energetic than the subdued Hammond, still nothing to rave about. Give me back Madden/Summerall or Madden Michaels.

That still doesn't make up for why there's lag between the play and the commentary. I mean there's always been a bit of time between the play and the booth guys on EA's games but not this bad! I'm not trying to bash the game; I have hope it'll be cleaned up somewhat when the final game drops. Honestly I'm just mad at ALL the nickle and dime B.S. moves EA Sports have used in their games lately. But I'll save that rant for another day.

There is no commentary before the snap. They have the offensive coordinator talk during that time.

These videos are pretty uninspiring, nothing I haven't seen before.

Announcing doesn't sound too great, “touchdown, New York” has as much excitement as if he said “timeout, New York”. With those who mentioned 2k's NFL announcer, he sounds like Johnny Carson, I didn't care for him much.

Wow Gus sounds really off…Like hes way late on the plays…maybe they should look into hiring some voice actors who they can have more time with to record

I mean like Gus saying Peyton Manning steps up in the pocket, looking through his progressions, sees a man open, throws it to Reggie Wayne, down at the 11. Instead all you hear is Throws it to Reggie Wayne down at the 11, because Ian said they had to take out commentary for it to fit, and that's the obvious filler place.

I have to agree with everyone else, that commentary set up is God AWFUL! How can they still say “real NFL gameday experience” and have that kind of commentary? I hope I can turn off the annoying offensive coach. That to me is such a gimmick idea, and it sounds so bad. I think this may be the downfall of Madden 11. We may all be bitching about the commentary and then next year Ian and the gang will say, “Madden 12…real authentic NFL TV presentation.” I know I may be dumb for saying this but that commentary will ruin this game for me. I can only hope, like the rest of you have expressed that this is what they threw together for the demo. Please, oh please, let that be the case. And don't anyone tell me “it's just commentary”. We all know how bad commentary can take away from a sports game experience.

Although Gus sounds great on tv, he put WAYY too much emotion in this years game.it would be great if he'd just say some things without the “emotion”. Hell, I'd pay full price for next years game if they add more lines for Collinsworth and bring in Dan Fouts for the play by play. As for gameplay, looks slightly better than last year, still they need to tweak the running animation. But seriously having Gus yelling screaming when I make a 1 yard run is just painful, and to have Collinsworth come in and say the SAME DAMN THING AS LAST YEAR is even worse.

I will be buying Madden 11 but WTF is up with the commentary!!!!!!!! Gus Johnson is way off of what he should sound like..but of course its not his fault its EA's terrible audio producers!!

i think regardless of wat people think about the game we will still get it cause we have no choice pretty much when it comes to pro football games. To me i see no difference. If anything ncaa blows this game out of the water just looking at it. I really hope the nfl takes away the licensing and makes it universal again cause im getting sick of this. But like i said until theres competition that stupid looking developer with the glasses that looks like he knows nothing about football will keep on putting out BS.

You act as if he is programmed to catch every pass. Don't be a douchebag. You know very well these things are based on mathmatical probabilities. Also just because Edwards has more drops than people think he should have doesnt mean he a complete butter fingers and drop every pass. He actually played well last year for the Jets. You must be a sorry ass cleveland fan. Cleveland is the toiletbowl of the US and it doesn't surprise me on bit that athletes will do anything to get out of that shit hole.
