NBA 2K11 Includes “The Jordan Challenge”

Though it has been suspected ever since Michael Jordan was revealed to be the cover athlete for NBA 2K11 there is finally confirmation on a new mode featuring him in-game. The mode will be known as “The Jordan Challenge” and allow for gamers to recreate many of his career highlights as well as play with some classic Chicago Bulls teams of the 80s and 90s (though based on the screenshot above it appears there will be some generic players included on the roster).

CNBC has further details on the mode which has 10 different versions of Jordan, the different situations to play through, and that each one requires certain goals be met such as matching point totals or shooting percentages.

The games that fans can play with different versions of Jordan include all of the following: April 20, 1986 (Game 2 of the 1st round of the playoffs against the Celtics when Jordan scored 63), March 28, 1990 (regular season game against the Cavs when Jordan scored 69), June 3, 1992 (Game 1 of the first round of the playoffs versus the Trail Blazers when Jordan scored 35 in the first half), March 28, 1995 (Jordan returns to the game and scores 55 against the Knicks), June 11, 1997 (the famous Jordan “flu game”) and June 14,1998 (the day of his last game in a Bulls uniform as his last second shot gives the Bulls its sixth title under his reign).

It is also stated that there will be additional features in NBA 2K11 that will feature Jordan and be discussed leading up to release of the game. What do you think of “The Jordan Challenge” and what it means for NBA 2K11? Leave your thoughts in the comments!

I like it. I never played modes like thi son other games but for this I will. Everyone knows these moments. I just hope they created his moves and animations close to how he really played.

First of all this sounds better than a “LeBron James Moments” mode. Now, I am not one for gimmicks but I understand why game manufactures feel the need to stuff them in games. So getting MJ to grace the cover is fine but doesn't really excite me.
As for general thoughts on both games, NBA Elite looks horrible and I have no confidence in the new controls but I really hope they prove me wrong. 2K11 looks good, but the game has looked good for the past three years. What it really needs is a tweeking of it's controls so you're not playing Street Fighter when trying to execute a simple play (I just dated myself.)
So to sum up, the whole Jordan thing is a nice PR move but last year additions of both games proved that we are in a era of patches. So the one thing all of us basketball gamers can count on is both games will not be finished when they are released.

While Jordan being in the game is cool, and was a great marketing tool. I”m getting tired of hearing about it. At this point in time I'd rather see more new screen shots of actual gameplay or a discussion on what moe they are adding. If Jordan is the only thing new about the game, I can already see myself saving $60.

Two of the 10 challenges don't have specific dates tied to it.

You can play the 1991 Finals version of Jordan as well as play a game in 1990 style vs. Dominique Wilkins and the Atlanta Hawks, where gamers are challenged with holding Wilkins to 25 points or fewer.

Meh. Not really excited about this at all. First off, it already says some of the Bulls players will be generic. That means many of the players on the teams that you are playing against in this mode will be generic too. What fun is it trying to recreate historic moments if the real players aren't even there? Even if they had all the real players I wouldn't be too hyped about this. Give me some wholesale game play improvements over these type of additions any day of the week.

So basically the Jordan Challenge is just a rip off of what Madden has been doing for years and that is offer some of the best games in history and you get to replay those key moments in the game only in 2k's version it is relagated to just “Jordan Moments”.

This is the “BIG” news that 2k Ronnie (Ronnie Singh) was alluding to fhe fans on his forum. This is a laughable joke. Typical 2k BS. Not impressed one bit and besides with 2k's shoddy defense and relative ease in scoring, how hard will it really be playing with Jordan and accomplishing the challenge. Not much of a challenge in my book.

Since when has your request EVER been a priority with 2ksports. Cmon, how long have you been playing NBA2k? 2k is all about creating a smoke screen of hype surrounding there technically inferior product. How bout 2k just release a game that actually works on day 1 and that doesnt require major patches just to have certain game modes functional. 2k may be the best basketball game, arguably, but that is only after extensive post release patchwork.

First off 2k has already stated that this years focus was on polish. So WTF do you think that means. It means that you are basically getting a more polished version of 2k10. Wow MJ looks really good there. Probably the best looking face i've seen in 2K. As for the Jordan moments, I hope there are a lot. I remember playing a mode like this in All-Star baseball on my PS2 a long time ago. I remember having a lot of fun playing it. Let's see how this progresses.
