First NCAA Football 11 Tuner Set Out Now

Posted August 5th, 2010 at 8:12 am

The initial set of “gameplay tuners” for NCAA Football 11 arrived this morning. First introduced in NHL 10, EA Sports can now tweak game settings through the delivery of tuners which don’t have to go through the patch process. That means adjustments can be made and new tuner sets can be sent out whenever deemed necessary without having to go through the certification period or face the restrictions that accompany patches.

This tuner set includes some changes to gameplay based on feedback and looks to fix for the issue with low rated prospects that severely damages dynasty mode once a few years in. There is no need to restart dynasty mode for the changes to take effect! The tuners will not fix issues such as the QB getting stuck in an animation and running backwards for a safety. That will be handled in the upcoming patch which should be out within the next week or two.

During start-up of the game the prompt to download the latest gameplay tuning data will appear. Continue on for the list of changes that are implemented through this set of tuners and leave your thoughts in the comments!

  • Increased the default starting values for all Recruits.
  • Slightly increased progression for low and mid tier teams.
  • Tuned CPU recruiting to prevent teams from signing too many players at any one particular position.
  • Increased CPU’s focus upon needed positions in recruiting.
  • Top schools will sign 5 star prospects earlier in the season.
  • After a recruit Soft Commits, any CPU team that is not ranked in the top three will spend significantly less time calling the recruit.
  • Addressed an issue with big lineman jumping too high and deflecting passes.
  • Tuned ESPN U Top 150 Players to be more in line with actual top 150 recruits by decreasing the number of Fullbacks and Kickers.  Tuned Field Goal, Kick Offs, and Punting in Super Sim.
  • Amen_Ra

Best sports game out right now, fuck what you heard (well best “fun” factor that is)!!! Hopefully they get those recruits fixed because I would hate to have to start over, but hell rosters get more accurate with each new set so there is some positive trade-off to restarting.

  • Brian M

So Pasta, this means that the recruiting prospects will be rated higher coming into the dynasty? If so, does this affec the current dynastys out there, or just for new ones? Thanks

  • Sean

This will just fine tune an already great game !!! Just might be the best football game of the year…till patch is available for Madden 11 strategy pad fiasco and then we'll just have to see…

  • Jz

So was man to man coverege touched where the DB not only mirrors the WR but runs his route ahead of him at all times? Has this been touched? If not ebay we go with NCAA.

  • Amen_Ra

I play on all-Madden and rarely see that stuff happen. Not thatI am calling you a liar. It's a video game chief, the CB mirroring the WR is the “video game” way of saying good pass coverage. Try throwing to the “OPEN” WR and you won't get picked so much,

  • tunes522

Still looks like ZERO A+ teams, AKA powerhouses, five years into a dynasty. Little strange. And the average number of players 80+ overall in the entire dynasty is still a great deal lower than the default roster. Though it's not as significant of course.

  • coogrfan

The first tuner set is focused on dynasty progressuion issues. It's my understanding that the second patch, which should be out before the actual cfb season begins, will focus on on-field gameplay issues.

  • philliephanatic

when is mlb 2k10 going to update domonic brown to the phillies.

  • philliephanatic

has there been any news about mlb 2k11?

  • boxboy99

Glad they did a lot with recruiting but I would like to see more gameplay tweaks.

  • daley7199

OR……….. Stop playing on Heisman level where the CPU performs unrealistically and drop down to All American where the coverages and the defense in general are a bit more realistic.

  • daley7199

I persnally am having a blast with RTG. I haven't played a full game of NCAA in a couple of weeks now. Its been all RTG. Unfortunately playing that mode all the time, I have discovered some annoyances like “Stupid Play calling” (ie: on every 3rd and 10 or more the play call is a middle draw play, which is especially stupid since I am a blu chip WR and hold the NCCAA record for most receiving yards in history and I am only a Junior.

    • KA1Z3R

yeah I love RTG. I am currently a freshman 5 star running back for LSU. i have won conference player of the week 3 times but they still are like, HB screen pass. It’s first and 10, run me for god’s sake

      • The360King

Yeah, I know what you mean. I love RTG, but the play-calling pisses me off sometimes. I play a 5 star freshman running back with TCU. I’ll be killing the D busting 6-9 yards a pop and they’ll steadily go away from the run. To make things worse, a third to half of the running plays will be option plays and I’ll have a clear lane down the sideline and the QB refuses to pitch the ball. Instead, he keeps it for a gain of 1 yard.

when you are a Running Back on the option you have to call for the pitch using the LT, I figured that out when I was doing mine with Auburn and Newton kept keeping the ball, finally I pressed the LT to see if it worked and it did…I wasn’t open to say the least lol.

Just finished playing a game. I noticed that passing was A LOT easier than before. I didn't have any super-linebackers knocking down or intercepting passes. I did notice that when I tried to throw a pass near a linebacker over the middle, my QB threw it over my receivers head. Anyway, I'm not sure if it was just the teams I was playing with (FSU vs Virginia), but the game seemed too easy now. I'll take that over throwing unwarranted INT's though.

  • Jz

EA won't let you Dl the tuner package without a online pass.

  • http://pastapadre.com/ pastapadre

Supposedly yes. And it would apply to ongoing dynasties although not until the new recruits come in (if you're in year 2 or 3 for example it isn't going to raise ratings of the guys you already have).

  • Amen_Ra

I only play as a QB in that mode. Can you call audibles as a WR? I know you can't in real life, but I was wondering does the video game give you that option.

  • daley7199

No you cant call an audible which makes sense and you also cant put yourself in motion which also makes sense. However you can use the quick play feature where you can quickly line up and repeat the same play again but the defense tends to read that pretty quick after the first time you use it.

Its pretty fun being a wide receiver though because you are running the routes and you can call for the ball when open and most of the time the QB will throw it to you. I made the mistake of picking a shitty team. I wanted to play with the Hurricanes but I mistakingly picked Miami of Ohio….LOL

However having said that I hold every NCAA receiving record and am a Heisman Candidate in my Junior year. The Red Hawks are poised to take the Mac East championship and make our 1st bowl appearance. It seems like the game plays very scripted in order to make your team progress each year and not just dominate out of the gate.

You playing the QB roll I would imagine you have alot more control over the out come of your games where playing WR or any other position you are at the mercy of the AI

  • jonathan

yea i have a wideout for boston college and i hate that the cpu misses me on deep fades and such. but rtg is pretty fun this year, they coulda made it great if they added more stuff like they had on ps2, like the heisman presentation or upgrading dorm rooms, or the campus popularity factor. idk, just something to change the scenery.

  • kbomb1upc

What about man to man defense and play action? That my biggest complaint with this game. Man to man defense is ridiculous because the CB reacts before my WR even makes a step and My WR has to plant and cut for a route while the DB doesn't lose a step. And I've never in my life been so afraid to call a play action as I am now. It’s almost a guarantee sack if a PA is called during a blitz. That’s just plan dumb.

  • whitehippo24

Does this make it where it's possible for me to actually play a human opponent in my online dynasy or will that come with a patch? I can play the same person in a regular Xbox live match but it won't let us play in our dynasty.

  • Amen_Ra

Yeah I've only played QB where I can be the offensive coach as well, I've never done anything else.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/ABLC757UG25E6RN7OECFE57JLA Daniel

QB getting stuck in an animation? Hows this a NEW problem; its been around for years!

You simply can NOT cram enough animations into a game and expect to cover every possible angle for every possible interatction. EA needs a new gameplay engine already.

  • ncaa11h8er

i think this is one of the worst ncaa games iv ever played.

  • cthomp7280

When you don't mix up your play calls, the defense will pin their ears back and start blitzing you to death. You need to use the run to set up the pass. Use screens to take advantage of overzelous blitzing. And use Play-Action after a few 5 or 6 yard runs.

You shouldn't call PA more than once or twice per drive.

  • skihawks

If you want attention, go to a local Wal-Mart and shoplift…

  • Danny

No fix for man to man defense? This tuner update does nothing for me… sucks

  • cthomp7280

And you said so yourself, Blitz + PA = Sack. Thats true in football PERIOD. Not just in NCAA 11. Screens and Draw plays beat blitzes.

  • skihawks

The down lineman and linebackers knocking down passes was irritating as hell. So glad that EA addressed this.

  • skihawks

    Pasta,

I know EA is fixing gameplay and dynasty issues through tuning and the upcoming patch. I know that the patch is also going to “upgrade” the amount of dirt on uniforms.

Has there been any word from EA on fixing the pride stickers on the helmets? I know in the long list of items that need attention that this is nit-picky but this would go along the lines of the dirty uniforms in that the game has pride stickers for teams but most are invisible unless you go into instant replay and zoom in. Ohio State's show up fine but the tomahawks for FSU are invisible until you zoom in and even then they disappear depending on the angle of the camera.

The pride stickers were visible in past gen iterations from the actual game camera. It would be nice to see those stickers pile up….

  • kbomb1upc

What are you talking about? You are supposed to run a PA when you are being blitz because the defensive is trying to stop the run. PA should catch them by surprise. But they never bite on the PA and they just continue straight to the QB like I didn't even fake the hand-off. That's not real football

  • kbomb1upc

I play with Michigan and I run the option which means I pass the ball about 10-15 times a game and run the ball 25-35. And it doesn't matter if I ran 9 times in a row the computer reacts like I just didn't fake the hand-off and heads straight for my QB. PA is broken and there's no doubt about it. Go to practice and try it for yourselves. Pick PA plays and random defensives and see how many times you get sacked and sometimes even before you get a chance to throw the ball.

  • Amen_Ra

I don't think the CPU redshirts so that may make a difference

  • kbomb1upc

I agree. Man to man defense kills this game for me. Its very un-realistic. Players jump your route before you even get a chance to run it. This really needs to be fix before I can start enjoying this game.

  • Jaw3165

Not sure if this has anything to do with new tuner sets but in my first game after downloading them, the computer scored a td, missed the XP, and then I had to kick off ! WTF?

  • skihawks

This is a bug not caused by the tuning…I haven't had it happen to me but it has been beat to death in forums….

  • daley7199

That shit happens alot in my RTG campaign as well. I play a WR so you can imagine how frustrated it becomes when your sorry ass CPU QB keeps getting crucial passes batted down at the LOS.

  • daley7199

So when you play as QB you can call your own plays or do the plays come in from the coach and you run them but have the option to audible?

I think my next RTG will be a K…………LOL I can play an entire 4 yr college career in like an hour.

  • daley7199

I meant to pick the Miami Hurricanes but mistakingly took Miami of Ohio. Talk about your shitty QB's. My starting QB cant hit a deep sideline route to save his life. He will either throw it 5 yds out of bounds or out of the back of the endzone.

He also cant it the quick out routes to the sidelines either. It always winds up 3 yds behind me and at my feet.

What really infuriates me is when I completely blow out my coverage and I am WIDE OPEN down the field for a TD and the douchebag over throws me by 10 yards…..BTW my speed is 97 and acceleration is 96. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cgalligan18

I am in Year 1 of my dynasty.

Will this affect the recruits that I am currently recruiting? Or, do I have to wait until Year 2's recruits to see this change???

  • Jaw3165

Thanks. 3rd year in dynasty and that is the first time it has happened to me.

  • Cthomp7280

I have 10+ deep pass highlight videos that come via PA. I wouldn't go so far as to call it broken. it works.

And have you checked the grade of your line?

  • cthomp7280

No, what are YOU talking about? Any person with half an ants-ass worth of football knowledge here will tell you that the blitz is not used to stop the run. That's Football 101.

The blitz is used to create a mismatch at the line of scrimmage to outnumber the blockers on passing downs. Depending on where the blitz is coming from, there will be a mismatch that gives the offense a similar advantage. If the blitz is from the middle, the slant/screen will be open. If its from the OLB the screen/draw will be open. If its from the corners, the flats and the outs will be open.

  • Cthomp7280

These people are KILLING me. It's as if they've never seen blanket coverage before.

Cornerbacking 101 = The goal is to guard your man as if you are running his route for him.i

This is not somethin that needs to be fixed. Some of you folks need to get your gaming skills up to par!

  • Tlaw10

You've never heard of a run blitz? Teams blitz to stop the run all the time

  • HurtsMyBrain

    Really?!?

  • kbomb1upc

I really hate explaining these things to people don’t understand football. But ok, a play action is used when a team is expecting the other team to run to confuse them. When playing online against a human, the only way they know how to stop the run is by calling a blitz. On previous Madden and NCAA games, everyone including the blitzing players, would react to the fake hand-off pause a second and then continue to the QB. This pause or delay was enough time for the player to get the pass away. Play any Madden or NCAA game and call an all-out blitz and watch difference.

But in this year’s college game the defense neither pauses nor reacts to the fake hand-off. They just continue full speed to the QB which in turn causes a sack. Madden 11 demo has the same problem. They've taken PA against blitz complete out the game.

  • kbomb1upc

You fail to realize that the problem isn't the blanket defense but the problem is when the DB runs the route before my WR even makes a move. Slants against man to man is a crap shoot because the DB runs the slant before my WR even gets out of his break and don't even talk how bad DB’s jump the Dig route. And I haven't seen a double move work on this game since I've had it. I've seen some occasions when the DB jumped the route so bad, he had to stand still and wait for the WR to finally get out of his break so he could actually check him.

I've played college DB and I can assure you that this is not even close the being realistic and I can't wait until they fix it.

If you run slants too often they will guess ur route. Thats the only time I’ve seen it, and I’ve played about 4 seasons, but on all american. Heisman just makes my guys fumble too much and my hb gets caught by DE’s with 77 speed, so if ur on Heisman, this may not help. Oh and on another note, I’m calling bullshit on ur claim to being a DB at the college level. U were probably a backup DB in a high school JV team, if anything. You don’t have to lie to support ur point. A cb will jump routes more often with help over the top. Also try pump faking toward ur guy first on double moves. If you know they are in man try sending him in motion. Having said that, personally, I mostly audible to a run when facing man defense. I mostly pass when they are in zone, and use a slot or twins to expose what defense they are in.

      • Anonymous

HAHA!!! I love it. How are you going to argue about how bad man to man defense is when you are afraid pass against man defense yourself….lol. You say you audible when you see man, why, because they always jump your routes. I can’t believe you are even trying to defend it when you only pass against zone. You would not audible to a run if man to man defense wasn’t broken. If you ran man to man defense on Madden 10 you would get ate alive.
And anyway playa, I don’t have to lie about playing college football, my stats speak for themselves, and I don’t have to waste my time trying to prove it to you.

        • Anonymous

I can beat man easily, just giving u some tips to help out. The reason I “usually” audible is my online dynasties I play with the weakest team in the toughest conferences, so every little bit helps. When I play my friends with better teams like Texas, TCU, Texas Tech, I dominate man coverage all day long. And I appreciate u not wasting my time trying to prove ur false claim. I’m not sure where ur going with the madden 10 thing. Madden 10 man coverage was non existent, in my opinion. I find it refreshing that they tightened up the man coverage on NCAA 11

Man I don’t have any problem beating man to man defense. You just aren’t throwing at the right time,.

        • Anonymous

I’m not having a problem beating man coverage, I was just trying to help someone else. It’s easier for me against zone because I use the worst teams in the stronger conferences for a greater challenge in my online dynasties, like Kentucky, Illinois, Baylor so the secondary I play against are waaay better than my receivers, so easier to pass against zone

last I heard they are working on this but it won't be on this patch

  • KA1Z3R

I gotta say i am having a blast playing this game. Easily the best football game I have ever played and I have played every Madden since 05 and rented almost every NCAA in that time frame.

What's awesome is i am getting realistic results from my 56 team created league. I didn't figure it would be this fun to play as them since Madden always screwed it up every year. But the ability to customize every player on each team down to meaningless things like kick accuracy is amazing and really makes this feel like a great game.

Move over Red Dead and BFBC2, my new favorite game is NCAA 11

  • http://www.thegamingtailgate.com cdj80

I believe that the QB animations freeze is in the upcoming game update. That's not something tuning can adjust.
