The Latest on NBA Elite 11

There has been a lot of talk about NBA Elite 11 and its incoming features but so far little in the way of actual demonstration of it in action and even a noticeable lack of images. That remains even as its rival has surprisingly seen a deluge of gameplay videos. Understandably that has some nervous about the current state of NBA Elite 11. While that may not subside until the demo hits there are some new details on the game that have recently made their way out.

The latest Game Informer has a preview of NBA Elite 11. Discussed is the “Become Legendary” mode which includes the Jordan Brand showcase game that will also be part of the Elite demo. The progression system in the career mode will be based on awarding skill points from “game grades, statistical performances, and how you bounce back after bad games”. The EASBA online league structure will have its own player and team progression along with monthly champions (think EASHL in NHL). Dynasty mode is getting some big changes such as a “GM tracker”, revamped rookie classes, and a rebuilt sim engine.

ESPN has gone into further detail on the Become Legendary and EASBL modes which you can check out here. Of note is that it can go on for up to 25 seasons including trade offers and contract signings. The two are actually completely separate so BL players are not the ones used in EASBL. Instead new ones are created for the online mode which should help balance things out with a cap that will be around a 90 rating.

2k10′s commentary was awful. There was no flow whatsoever between topics, and there was so much repetition it wasn’t even funny. I wouldn’t bring it up, but that was one aspect of 2k10 that they really hyped up, and it turned out to be bogus.

the game looks good to and i jump back an forth between live and 2k but 2k11 looks just like 2k10 and yes i have watched the videos, nothing but the presentation jumps out to me and oh yeah the dunks because they do look nice. all in all i think both games will be good 2k will sell more due to the fan support but a lot of people will play elite this year if they admit it or not//

If you engaged your brain for just a nanosecond and shut your trap you would have realized that I actually gave high praise to the commentating in 2k11 this year. I also went on to say how all sports games should implement this style of commentating. I have said this before 2k even showed a single vidoe of NBA2k11 so obviously my thoughts were spot on.

Now my only detractor was one that any intellegent person would ask. “How frequently will be hearing the same dialogue over and over.”

NBA Live commentary sucks just as much. I just like Marv Albert better than Kevin Harlan. Marv Albert IS the staple of the NBA and being that Jordan is the Theme for this year, 2k should have grabbed Marv this year. Whose called more Jordan Games than Marv Albert.

I’m not a fan of one game over the other as I actually think that a truly sim and enthralling NBA experience cannot be achieved with the current gen we have now…maybe when the next gen of consoles come out. The technology simply isn’t there yet. With that said, of course the video shots of the development of the game are going to look terrible….but do you mean to tell me that if 2K had released a video with the VERY SAME polygon dev shots of some jokerish looing dunk animations, you wouldn’t say anything? Get outta here man.

People hate EA (Madden and Live) because they are not innovative and have a history of being out of touch with the community. For example…it is a good thing that they have finally fixed up some online issues with Madden..but the most concerning thing is this……How could they have made that decision without foreseeing that it was going be a HUGE issue? That whole situation tells me one of two things about EA….they either were truly ignorant and out of touch with the world around them if they did not see that that decision was going to be a problem. OR…they knew it was going to be a problem and simply did NOT CARE.

THAT is why people hate EA sports. I feel that the hate is completely warranted and legitimate.

probably no one has called more Jordan games than Marv, and you’re right, he is THE staple of professional basketball announcement. Having said that, I’m sure if 2k would have been able to get the rights to Marv Albert, they would have. It doesn’t mean they suck for not being able to do it though. Bottom line is this, you throw a lot of dirt around at 2k fans and you’re the 1st one to go bananas if someone throws some dirt at Elite….We all get it, you prefer Elite over 2K and that’s fine. Same here. I’ve always favored 2K to Live. But I think it’s good for both basketball games to do well, and it’s childish to go back and read the arguments on this post just because some favor one game to another. I had Live 10 for a couple of weeks and though it was the best Live I’ve played since 05, but playing it then putting 2K9 in my 360 just felt like I was going from daycare to real school! No, 2K isn’t the perfect basketball sim, but there are some things that game has always had that make me step back every year and say whoa.

Another thing that makes me laugh is how in this video the first clip of the actually gameplay they zoom the camera out as fast as possible hahahhaha. Yes, they talked about more than any other game, but it just didn’t flow. It doesn’t matter how many lines you record if they aren’t tied into the game properly. MLB 2k9/10 had fantastic commentary, the best I’ve ever heard from a video game. That’s why NBA 2k10′s was such a disappointment. It can be done. MLB 2k9 proved that. NBA 2k10′s commentary was hyped up and it ended up being just hype. They need to scrap 95% of the commentary from the past 2 years and redo it. That’s what they should have done last year. I’m just hoping that they fix it for this year. I am also hoping that Elite’s will be up to par as well. Both were stale last year. On a side note, the commentary is the one thing that truly keeps MLB the Show from feeling like a real game. It makes a big difference.

I am a 2K fan, and have been since the Dreamcast days. (man 2K1 was the truth lol) But honestly, I really hope that Elite is a good game this year. I mean, of course I have my doubts because of EA’s built up track record with Live. And EA hasn’t really done much to prove me otherwise with some of their gameplay videos. But we as consumers all benefit when there are other quality products on the market to choose from. Even though I will probably still end up buying 2K this year and only briefly experiment with Elite, two options are still better than one. I also think the presence of Elite and them trying to revamp their system is making 2K think of some pretty unique ways to improve as well. All of us 2K fans will probably agree that Isomotion was an aquired taste. And even though I didn’t mind it once I learned how to use it, it didn’t really provide users with a complete dribbling experience because most people would only actually use a select few of the available moves. With some of the others being done by accident. So I’m glad that they are supposedly developing a more intuitive and true to life dribbling mechanism. In conclusion, while I think we should continue to hold these companies to a high standard, but also be thankful that we have options (unlike with Madden) no matter what your game of preference is.
