NBA Elite 11 Finally Emerges

With the major changes that have taken place that make up NBA Elite 11, it has been noteworthy that no actual gameplay video has appeared. Understandably that has made those following the game nervous as EA Sports’ MO the last few years has been anything but to shield their games from being seen.

Over at Operation Sports a thread has been ongoing discussing NBA Elite 11 which is actually out on display at “Elite 24″ a high profile high school basketball event. Those who have been able to attend have had the opportunity to get hands on with NBA Elite 11 as well as NBA Jam. So the first impressions of the game along with the very first in gameplay videos is now here.

Needless to say that early thoughts on the game have been less than impressive. Some general reaction has been that it is difficult to pick up and play, the action is chaotic and out of hand, that it is a dunk-fest, that the real-time physics have been pretty much non-existent, many animations are awkward, and that shooting is either tough to get or can become automatic. There are variables to consider though and ultimately the demo and directly captured footage will provide more insight. However this is what we have to work off for now. Seeing Carlos Boozer dunk from the free throw line (:44 of vid #3) doesn’t require much of a breakdown.

The videos are rough but that comes with the territory of filming in an environment such as this one. As always feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments!

wow what a sad excuse for a basketball game! THIS GAME LOOKS PATHETIC! Another reason why I have picked 2k since 2k7. 2k11 will blow this insult to the NBA away..

Based off observations of the videos shown. What I didn’t mean was that 2K’s control scheme is a more accurate representation of the game; that it is the overall look of the game is a more accurate representation. I prefer Elite’s controls with the combination of the shot stick, as I’m a fan of using analog controls.

Its funny because we were just saying that the people playing the gamescom footage of 2k didn’t know what they were doing and just bullshitting around and all I heard was complaints about how the game play wasn’t realistic and its cheesy and 2k is done blah blah. Throughout this whole NBA 2k vs Elite battle now you are here saying the same shit. Im not a fan of any company, I just play the best game available, but ill give it to you, sincerely, you are a die hard EA fan and I can respect that

Guys watch that dunk that Wade did against the lakers, just automatically dunked near the foul line. what the hell is this?? when they said it included nba jam, did they mean the game, or included elements of jam into elite? Too arcady, and the animations looks terrible, so much for total control and new physics or whatever they’re hyping

I think people wanted to see if ELITE would live up to the hype. I mean physics are more than just player colliding and things in the game should not be able to happen at all if they cant happen in real life. Carlos Boozer dunking from the free throw line with people under the hoop doenst happen in real life lol

better is a relative thing. if 2k actually gets their online play working i think its a slam dunk. but elite has good features.

Sure, let me post the directly captured gameplay that EA or a media site has released…oh right there is none.

We’ve seen this with 2K the last few years (even this one) letting user captured off screen footage be the first to hit. 2K has usually seen that be rough in reaction too but they have quickly followed up with better footage. We’ll see if EA does that as well. If not, then things really are as bad as they seem.

Should consider though packaging NBA Jam in with it. If someone wants Elite they could sell their Jam code probably for $20+ on ebay. I think we’ll see some retailer incentives too, I believe Walmart is offering a $10 gift card with online preorders.

Looks okay. Looks exactly like last year seriously. The gameplay looks unrealistic in spots, like Boozer two handed dunk from the free throw line on someone, WTF was that? I will still try demo but as I thought 2K is still so far ahead.

FYI just thought I’d mention I’m mostly pleased with the comments here. Still have some people baiting but I think that will subside over time if everyone remains reasonable. I am thinking of instituting an auto-hide to comments that get “flagged” by more than a few people. My concern with that is people may flag just cause they don’t agree with a comment. But thanks everyone for at least sticking to topic here and commenting on what is on hand instead of bickering (for the most part)!

well fortunately i looked at the many reviews form past iterations of games released by both companies and watched dev diaries and gameplay videos, from their i used a well known strategy called the scientific method to test my hypothesis based on previous data, general knowledge and past experience…

Its worrisome. I’ve stated before that I’ve had a bad gut feeling about Elite for a long time. All this is certainly a concern but there is no need to make final judgments at this point.

Watch your tone kid.

First off 2k Tercel put a single thread for elite buried in the General basketball discussions and has a sticky saying that thread is the only place to mention Elite. If you go to that thread its still just a bunch of 2k fanboys ripping on elite so perhaps you should get your facts straight. Furthermore 2kTercel didn’t even have the common courtesy to sticky the elite thread so people could readily find it. Trust me I have been banned numerous times from Tercel and it has always been for talking about EA sports.

So how bout you cool your Jets Kid. You have no idea WTF you are talking about.

What I am saying is that you all seem to forget how jacked up NBA2k10 was last year. The video maker Chris Smoove is a staunch 2k gamer and probably one of the most rational out of the lot of you fanboys. He has plenty of videos documenting the problems 2k has had and didn’t fix last year though they promised they were.

So I am saying just don’t forget who you are dealing with here. I know you are all in a stuper over the whole Jordan thing but you aren’t asking the right questions. You seem more caught up in Elite than you do with your own game. Both videos I put up here show you some huge problems in 2k. He has alot more video on You tube. Lookem up. and see for yourself. I’m just saying both companies say alot of BS. You guys seem to believe 2k’s BS a whole lot more.

Do you buy a car before you test drive it? I rest my case. Play the demos then decide. Neither one of these games has beem played by anyone posting on here so all these comments are useless.

I am sure EA will drop the demo this week or next. We can resume the debate then. Other than that all this is just a waste of time.

But you are right though. It will all subside until you start dropping info on MLB2k11 and MLB:the show 11.

Funny where are all the 2k fans now. You cant defend a game where a true player can destroy your game right before your eyes. Smoove did the same exact move over and over again and basically scored at will right down the middle of the lane.

if you read what i wrote,i said i will make my final judgement once i have played both demos but from what i have seen,it looks like the game took two steps backward.your right,i should play the demo first before i make up my mind but i can’t yet,so all i have to go on so far is what i have seen and this looks awful and this is coming from an EA fanboy but i have to call it as i see it…that’s just my opinion and i respect yours as well.

I called this from day 1. This is EA’s “m.o” they released all these developer promos and hyping up elite, then showing practice 1 on 1 footage. Now we see the 5 on 5 gameplay, and to nobody’s surprise, its a disaster. Revolutionary physics? Whats that?? Leaping behind the foul line, and your defenders glide backwards as you dunk?? Total control?? Yikes, no wonder Durant had that bored and regretful look on his face during the promos. Hes playing it and said dam this game sucks, and “Dam I’m the cover boy, dam I’m promoting this, players in the league are going to ridicule me!!”

I feel the same way about the 2k footage. I love what i’m seeing you just have to take it with a grain of salt watching people make a mess of the game when it’s all run and gun, you know what i mean? When i saw the 2K footage i was like wow these guys aren’t leaving any stones unturned. I mean watch close and you see things like players wipping their hands on their shorts while in a defensive stance…. now thats life like…. thats in the game 2K has always been aware of the “little” things mattering. I think for some reason the genre of hoops has the most closed minded of gamers.

true but i think people are going to have to wait to hear from EA if this was an instance of an odd glitch. lets not pretend these thing don’t happen in both titles. Hell i’ll try to locate the dunk on the 2K clip where the player on the close up of the replay doen’t even have the damn ball.

Oh and the ball physics in Elite look very strong IMO.

I usually don’t post here, I just enjoy reading the comments and laughing…but there is no way after seeing these videos that a resonable person would not be concerned; and just as troublesome is the lack of official footage from EA of real gameplay. That alone should raise massive red flags. I own many EA games (Madden, NCAA, Tiger Woods, Fight Night) and many 2K games (NBA, MLB, 2K8). I love sports games so I tend to buy them all as long as they play well. I don’t trade or sell games so I can go back and compare old games to new games and the footage shown here looks like a huge step backwards. That is just a fact, it is right here before your eyes. Let the fan boy talk go, be it 2k or EA, the footage shown here comical. Could it change? Maybe, but before a purchase this game, I need to see/play something that convinces me that these video represent an abberration and not the final game.
