NBA 2K11 My Player Adds Signature Shoes

All throughout the week 2K Sports is announcing improvements to NBA 2K11′s My Player career mode. Yesterday it was post-game press conferences and today it is signature shoes. “If you’re gonna Become The Greatest, you gotta have your own signature shoe. Dominate in this year’s version of My Player mode and you’ll see your customized kicks on the feet of other guys in the league. What’s your signature shoe gonna be called?”

I’ve never quite understood the fascination that some have with shoes in NBA games. But there are undeniably many out there who intently follow what shoes are in and how accurately replicated they are. Personally I can’t remember ever even paying attention or noticing shoes while playing the games, but for those who do this sounds like a nice touch for the mode especially if it includes the player signing a shoe deal with a company.

I like the idea. Again, nothing that’s blow me away exciting, but I’m glad to see the 2K crew add some to the game that could’ve been shuffled to the side. They’re trying to make a COMPLETE GAME. As far as the shoes I wish they had more in game (or at least some different generics), but it’s not a big deal.

This totally makes me want to buy the game! Kidding, this feature is irrelevant for me. I’m with Pasta, the shoes won’t make me decide to buy the game. Are they advertising this like it’s a big new feature? If so, I might be extending my break from NBA games to 2012

Yeah they are basically insisting on “play the demo” and you will see attitude. They are totally playing a 2k this year while 2k is playing an EA and pulling out the stops early this year. 2k has yet to say when the demo will come out while EA as said September which many think will be next week.

Being that this is Phase 1 of a three Phase plan I pretty much think we have seen all the nuances from Elite 11 this year. It will have the EASBL and the Become Ledgendary mode and of course the other normal modes. Don’t think there will be any filler stuff like 2k is bringing. Phase 1 is all about the hands on controls and getting them right.

We’re a sim game, but we allow users to attempt moves that the player they are controlling wouldn’t normally attempt because part of the simulation we offer is giving you complete control over that one player while the AI controls the rest of them in an attempt to mimic their real life tendencies and behaviors.

In every sim basketball game ever made you could attempt a three pointer with shaq every time up the court if you wanted to (at least as far as I know). That doesn’t make the game any less sim, it just means the player isn’t playing in a realistic maner.

We’ve extended the control you are used to with three pointer’s to all dribble moves, shots, steals, alley oops…pretty much everything you can do in basketball.

Same rules as the three pointer, just applied to all aspects of the game.

I agree with your previous points about not being able to succeed where the real life player couldn’t (ie the boozer dunk).

But having he ability to attempt the move and fail has been a staple in all sim games with shooting.

So why would it be any different for the other user controlled actions?

I think it’s fair to disagree with our choice of controls, but I don’t think it’s fair to say we are not a sim game because of those choices

Why do people use the phrase “DAY 1 PURCHASE”? I never understood what the relavance was to that phrase. Is it any different from a day 5 purchase or a day 20 purchase. Besides if you want the game why would you wait. Makes no real sense at all

Apparently (Reanimator) who I believe works for EA and is a frequent poster on OS also said that it has been on the table since the complaints about the Artest dunk and he is not sure what build that demo was so he wasn’t sure if it has already been fixed but he said that they are aware of it.

Cuz its good for the companies numbers, and looks good on the game. Why do you think companies add bonuses for pre ordering a game. If you pre order your most likely goin to buy it day one.

Just like a movie that comes out they always estimate their first weekend earnings or release day earnings. And the finals numbers for those days matter the most to the movie itself. Just like the game itself. It sells if its good. Thats why the phrase “day 1 purchase” is relevant.

Yes but the people using it are consumers and not companies. It doesn’t matter to the consumer when you buy the game. In fact I am pretty sure no one gives a flying you know what whether one buys anything so my question still stands. Why categorize the fact one will purchase the game on day 1 to a bunch of gamers?

Just to clarify it takes several weeks for any clear signs as to how a game is doing. The results for madden won’t really tally up on VG chartz until some time in September.

The whole preorder thing benefits retailers like gamestop that have very limited store space and thus gives them a more accurate product count for distribution to their various retail outlets. As far as the publisher goes, pre orders helps them to get a feel for how many discs they need to press and manufacture.

Bottom line its all about saving money.

OS Steve tweeted tonight that EA will giving and exclusive game play video to Operation Sports tomorrow and will be roughly 5 minutes in length.

Presumably it will be of the final build of the game and most likely be played by people who actually have a clue.

Oooh really? The euphoria shall begin! I’m really looking forward to getting my first real look at Elite 11. 2K11 is practically sold for me already with the inclusion of Jordan, and if the demo is what I expect I’ll head down to JB Hi-Fi and pre-order it but this is the first year I’m legitimately interested in possibly getting Elite. The new physics and detailed Become Legendary mode has got me intrigued…I was appalled by the Boost Mobile 24 event footage, but if what Backlash has said is true, and the OSers’ skill level makes a drastic difference I may very well be buying Elite for the first time
