First Directly Captured NBA Elite 11 Gameplay

Over the weekend the first chance to see NBA Elite 11 in action arrived and the results weren’t pretty. That EA Sports has held back on releasing gameplay footage has been notable and allowing those recorded sessions to be the first opportunity to see the game has raised even more eyebrows. Now EA seemingly in response has released a directly captured gameplay video via Operation Sports featuring the Bucks @ Knicks that runs 5:35.

Keeping in mind that this is a carefully selected segment of gameplay, does it change your perception of NBA Elite 11 at all? At the very least the video brings in the element of audio with the new three man crew of Mike Breen, Jeff Van Gundy, and Mark Jackson. Continue on to watch the video and as always leave your thoughts in the comments!

ok it looks OK now I guess. The commentary is great, but why do the players move like they have sticks up their asses? And whats with the player and jersey models? they look horrible! I mean Live 10 looked cartoony, this just looks like ps2.

  • Anonymous

the commentary is alright man.. And this is from a 2k guy. They have signature lines from Mark Jackson and Breen. But nothing beats the enthusiasm of Kevin Harlan in 2k.

  • Anonymous

yea and the better game product is 2k in this case.

  • Anonymous

man as long as Mike Wang is here.. we’re good to go. Look at the masterpiece that 2k7 was? and then Wang left, we had decent 2k8, 2k9.. 2k10 was good again, and now 2k11 is back on that 2k7 masterpiece level with Wang back on board.

  • Anonymous

yea if they want to directly compete with 2k, they should atleast show the broadcast cam. especially with that ESPN integration? it only makes sense. But thats the least of their worries. the player models and jersey graphics are pathetic.. Then Knicks jerseys are like bright white, but they have this dark shadow in them in the game.

    haha lmao.

i’ve stopped buying Live ever since that disgrace to basketball in Live 06 on the 360.

  • Anonymous

That looks pretty disappointing. It’s a shame too, I’ve been a 2k purchaser since 2k6 but I’ve always kept an eye on Live as well. I thought Live was making a comeback after last years pretty ok game but this doesn’t look like it’ll be surpassing it this year. 2k’s gameplay is always superior even if it was canimation, I just hope that Live’s new physics engine doesn’t prove 2k’s point that some canimation is necessary.

I think its time to step back into reality?

  • projectkage

5 minutes of footage can go a LONG way. This is proof.

2k11 is the way to go man.

EA should just attempt to sell nba jam and tell people they get elite free, this shit just get worse every update.

yea it all looks nice, but why are there no smooth animations? they players move jerky and they graphics look horrendous.

  • Guest

How you gonna say, ” it all looks nice “, then say ” the graphics look horrendous ” ? 2K’s animations are always stiffer anyway, aren’t they ?

  • Mike

Well, you’re Ryan Ribblett, so shut the fuck up, 2K ass lick.

  • shimoda

Not so bad. Not so good.

The same old story in the end.

Next year EA will say that they fixed a lot of problems in Elite 11.

    Nothing changes.

  • Anonymous

like it looks OK, but the player models and jersey models and animations look horrible. So pretty much EA failed on three things that matter the most. The Commentary is an improvement from years past, and the presentation is good with the ESPN.

And 2k is stiffer? what game have you been playing for the last 5 years? 2k has always been smooth as silk.

  • Hungryandrew

Shit, this looks like a ps2 game. Physics?? You know how about putting the “3″ year physics plan together, instead of releasing it as incomplete, yea the video is more clear, but its CLEARLY TRASH!!

  • Hungryandrew

wang said in a interview, that after Live 10 hit the stores, the team talked about “11″ and he said from the development talks, EA didnt share his vision, and he decided to go back to 2k.

  • Hungryandrew

Its not even close this year, man, what a disgrace, absolutely terrible. People who are defending this game , are in denial, MAJOR denial.

  • Bigpapiandchipper

The obvious problem with this video is that it’s human vs. human with EA guys playing it to make it look as sim as possible.

So many times in the vid it’s clear that with a couple crossovers they could easily just walk right in for a dunk (like in the event vids), but they keep pulling it back to hide that game-killing issue

  • Hungryandrew

I’ll say it again, no wonder durant looked bored and half asleep while playing this trash , during those Elite promos.

  • Hungryandrew

EA needs to get off thiier asses. Bad enough they’re doing it with madden because they’re the only game in town, but with the nba, they have hard competition. I honestly think Peter Moore has no managerial skills, no leadership and no vision, and these developers working on Elite, for them to think this game is revolutionary? They need to be taken to the yard for a DIRT NAP!!

  • Hungryandrew

Revolutionary physics?? So why are there so much warping and skating?? Reminds me of NBA Live 99 for the N64!!

  • Hungryandrew

What is the deal with the net animation, so unrealistic. NBA Live 10 had way better looking crodws and way better crowd atmosphere, what the hell is going on?

  • Rkelly089

Does anybody get the impression that Daley ate the open end of a shotgun after this video?

  • Boyleparkhoopa

Omg wow they still have that stupid dribble animation where the player slides his feet like he is playing defense and his torso doesn’t turn at all

  • joel0078

I think this will eventually happen. If I’m remembering correctly, the fate of the Live series was up in the air after the release of Live 10 last year. I guess they decided to give it another shot. It’s always nice having different titles to choose from, but thus far I am thinking Elite looks terrible (and I’ve bought Live every year for the last 6 years, along with 2k). Minus an outstanding demo (which I highly doubt after all these videos), I will only be purchasing 2k this year.

  • vlnj13

I wish this were done by the NHL team. They consistently put an incredible game together, and NHL 11 looks to be more than on that pace.

  • joel0078

“they have been preaching all along that its about getting yoru hands on the controls and not just watching a bunch of videos”

Yes, they have been saying that. But great controls mean nothing if the rest of the game is sloppy. I know you’ll never agree, but that’s the truth of the matter. 2K has been preaching controls too, but their gameplay videos have far exceeded anything Elite has put out. And I’m saying this as a guy who buys both games every year for the last 6 years. They aren’t “holding back until the demo drops”. At this point, what you see is what you get. I am guessing most people are going to be disappointed with the demo. I’m personally hoping for a good demo, because I like playing both games, but I just don’t see that happening this year after watching all these terrible gameplay videos. The end of EA basketball series may be closing in sooner than later.

nice table on the sidelines haha, awful

So where do I put my quarters in? Do we get a free roll of quarters with the pre-order too? I just hate how the players move, shoot, dribble, everything. The commentary has promise but this looks exactly like the same old same old. If the players are going to continue to look like a bunch of stretch armstrongs with over exaggerated movements I am not interested. The net doesn’t even look to have improved which was another huge issue for me. Just too much working against it for me to consider it this year. Too many other good games coming out in the next month or so for me to be able to buy this arcade game too.

Okay, I must admit this looks alot better than the vids that were posted a few days ago. The game has potential, but it without a doubt is nowhere near as polished 2K at this point. The animations just aren’t as good, detail isn’t there, and commentary isn’t as fluid.

Some good though. Whether the devs were purposely trying to play as sim as possible or not, it is a good sign that the game can be played sim.

I just hope the game sells enough to continue the series to keep the competition going. NBA 2K has had the battle for at least 4 years now if you ask me, but it wouldn’t be where it’s at without the competition.

  • Bux

the scary thing is… that video with Stephen Curry and Durant saying how sick it was smh, them dudes where clearly paid. I had both Live and 2k last year, but this… BLAHAHAHAAAA i think this was made for the Atari jaguar

  • Dre2778

Lets bow our heads and have a moment of silence for the game that once was: NBA LivElite. It is now dead, and the funeral arrangements have been made.

  • Philly

Actually we buried it after the Boozer dunk… It tried to pop up outta the grave but we couldn’t let that happen…

  • Stunnerko123

    Can u say ass

  • LafayetteAzevedo

WOW, this game is still horrible and it still plays like a crappy ARCADE game. The players don’t actually look like they are engaged in the game. Just more standing around and squating for what they call defense. I can’t believe they still make NBA games, just sad. This game won’t sell and they’ll have to scrap it. They need to make a deal with 2K to lift the baseball license in exchange for the football license so they can both make all the sports game… death of Madden, ha!

  • Nakhsjhn

this is sad…live 10 was playable and ea should focus on copying 2k…they went the opposite way …backwards…for a second i thought i went back in live2001…

i think it’s not to be taken lightly too.If they thing we’re stupid then i say noone buy this outdated piece of crap. I play from 1988 bball games and i can’t accept this crap…we want evolution and that’s why every year we pay money…

  • http://twitter.com/usuallyimcool rell

lol thats the problem its not early..the game comes out next month its in its final stages yo

  • Hungryandrew

Hey guys, NBA 07 from 989 sports on the PS3, is better than this crappy game lol

  • Bokinghbk

BOOOOOOOOO! Looks just like Madden Elite 12 is going to look. Looks just fine to me guys. Can’t wait to play it. Its a must have. I am sure after the 2nd 0r 3rd patch it will be on par with double dribble.
Did Ian Cummings work on this title too??? Something to consider. Madden Elite 12 comming next year. New features 1 Play action plays. 2. Dirty Uniforms. 3. Franchise Owner Mode. I just preordered my copy at gamestop and got 1,000,000.00 Madden coins= $3.00. Peace

  • http://twitter.com/THEINFAMOUSDC Bernard Shanks

it such a waste of Mike Breen JVG and MJ they should be on 2K11 the best commentary group on the worst basketball game

  • Xcef2008

Maybe I’m wrong but that doesn’t make any sense though from a marketing stand point. Obviously NBA Live was struggling and getting a bad rep. That’s why they changed their name. So why would a struggling company wait in till last minute to bring out their best stuff? Wouldnt it be smart to show your best stuff early to get people talking and excited and then simply throw out your demo last to be the final selling point. No struggling company or business is going to say: “Heres a bunch of crap but dont worry once you’ve already made up your mind, then were going to show you all the good stuff”. I just dont think EA can afford to do that, do you?
