Second NBA Elite 11 Gameplay Video

by

Last night EA Sports released the first footage directly captured from NBA Elite 11. It seemed to have been put together in reaction to the off-screen footage that made it out over last weekend. Even with what was meant to display the game under ideal conditions the general reaction was quite heavily negative.

Now a second gameplay vid has arrived via Operation Sports. This one features the Oklahoma City Thunder @ Detroit Pistons and is the first look at CPU vs User (all prior videos have been head-to-head). Continue on to check it out and leave your thoughts in the comments!

“I will use real time physics to throw this game in the garbage.”—scottysummersx.

    wow lol

  • Bullitt_711

    project kage, that’s funny.

I’m pretty sure I’m still getting both, I love the NBA games too much. I pass on so many titles so buying two isn’t a huge deal.

I’ve had a pS3 forever and sell all my games all I have left is NBA 08, MW2, Socom Confrontation, Madden 10. I’ll add these two NBA games to the roster and likely sell one of them within a week and a half of release date.

  • LJ7321

wow…this reminds me of NBA Live 2003 so much. “NBA Freestyle Stick is off da hizzle fo shizzle, dizzle” -Snoop Dogg. And now he has the main song for NBA 2K11. From these videos it looks like we should follow suit haha

  • Hungryandrew

    CLASSIC!!!!

  • Philly

I’ll definitely be looking for your thoughts. Yeah I agree. They’re vanilla vids. No hate towards Elite, I just wish they’d dial up the greatness Live used to have. The things I read in the Insight today for 2K are insane man. It will definitely be a solid game as long as the on court gameplay is at least decent. We’ll see though.

I think you misinterpreted what I was trying to say. I was saying that some of the shooting animations looked realistic and some looked very awkward. There were a few shots that looked more like soccer passes than basketball shots. I was in no way referring to shot selection, as that is in the hands of the players. I also know that players sometimes shoot up awkward shots, but I was referring more to jump shots (ie 3:55). Seeing as how this is a gameplay video, all I can comment on is how it looks. I still have a lot of interest in this game, and especially the new control schemes. I don’t expect perfection, nor do I feel that 2k is perfect in control or graphics. I’m not really sure where you got that impression.

This game looks TERRIBLE I mean wow like I said on the last Elite Video next season Mike Breen JVG and MJ need to come to NBA 2K because this is a waste of their great commentary on suck a horrible game.

  • Poo

This game looks absolutely horrible…. Quit while your behind. Please EA….

  • Blak Baki Hanma

I really don’t want to beat A DEAD HORSE here but…
When traveling isn’t called (KD took 2 steps THEN A PRO HOP)…
    When a blatant push-in-the-back (over the back) isn’t called…
When the CPU doesn’t throw a pass for 2 minutes…
When Charlie Vills and Wilcox bring it like Amare (in traffic no less)…

I just can’t believe a 16 yr old franchise can be this horribly inept at conveying a realistic and quality basketball experience… but I’m afraid these vids are inarguable proof.

There’s a reason we don’t know the difficulty level and gp settings… because it doesn’t matter. This is the game that EA set out to make, an afterthought pasted together by a team of nice guys that read a pamphlet about basketball but HAVE NEVER SEEN A NBA GAME IN THEIR LIVES.

IF YOU DON’T KNOW THE RULES OF BASKETBALL AFTER 16 YEARS… WELL… THAT’S OK… TO BE FAIR, I DON’T KNOW SHIT ABOUT HOCKEY.
BUT I DON’T TRY TO SELL MY LACK OF KNOWLEDGE FOR 60 BUCKS A POP EITHER…

Maybe they were trying to make the worst hoops game ever… if so…
    GREAT SUCCESS!

If they set out to make a NBA sim… well…
    NOT SO MUCH!!

  • Legendoflegends

LOL!! Yeah, I was laughing to, look like he was on a break and then he did some fancy step move and turned it into a fadeaway….This game is pure trash!!! Shouldn’t even be on store shelves…I’m not even downloading the demo!!!

They are Vanilla but that should be another worry as well. If the competition is dropping pretty good videos then why keep it Vanilla to combat them? That isn’t doing them any favors in public opinion which does play a big part in sports game sales. They should be trying to wow us.

As far as waiting for a demo I’m eh towards the idea. Devs always talk about the extra time a demo takes and the resources it takes away from completing a game. They’ve backed themselves into a corner seeing as they have to release a great demo to win public favor back but also need tons of polishing to what is looking like an inferior product.

Also, the “filler” isn’t filler if used properly within the context of the game mode. Some say “filler” but others would say “immersion.”

I agree. The screens don’t look too bad but the vids look like PS2.5

3:25 Prince attempts a Euro Step

  • Anonymous

this game looks like its 8 years behind where it should be.

  • Anonymous

    Immersion?………Hmmmmmm………Fair Enough

  • Anonymous

Finally got a chance to watch the second vid at home. The big hang up I see people have is that they are too stuck in there perceptions. For example: Tayshaun Prince doing a Euro. The point isn’t whether Prince can or has ever attmpted one in an actual game before. The point is that you have the tools at your disposal to make him or any player attempt it. Like with the dribble mechanics in the game, some players will be able to do things better than others and if you attempt to do something that a player shouldn’t be able to do, this game will punish you for it like in the Bynum quick clip when he tried to dribble behind his back.

So Prince’s Euro is a good thing. I am sure he can do it if he wanted to and the person playing the game wanted to make that move. He didn’t have to do a Euro, he wanted to do a Euro and that is great. I don’t want a canned animation everytime I go to the rack. I want to control exactly what I do when I go to the rack.

The only problem I had was on the Durant Hop Step. Again the user decided to make this move and it was great. The problem that I had was the AI defense seemed to slide with is hop step instead of being knocked over by it. Minor point and I will get over it. Might just need some RTP tweaking. Overall I am satisfied with what I am seeing gameplay wise.

I am not a graphics whore like most of you appear to be. The graphics are acceptable for a sports game.

Yeah. There have been attempts to make single player progression based modes in plenty of sports games but they always seem to be lacking. After creating your player you work him out in some sort of camp, join your team, earn your roster spot and that’s basically. Having a few RPG-ish elements can only help that mode and hopefully let players immerse themselves in it more.

It’s certainly better than static menu’s with coaches comments. Now, whether they pull it off or it gets repetitive within 2 days is a different story but it’s a step in the right direction. I’d love to see more RPG elements in 2k’s mode, Madden’s Superstar mode and The Show’s Road to the Show mode. It can’t hurt it unless it’s implemented in a way that will turn the player off.

  • http://twitter.com/alvie78 ALeX Cote

5 mins of play… 16 jumpshots attempts, 5 dunks, no layups. Out of 16 jumpshots, 9 missed. Maybe this is a WNBA game

  • Live10_fan

This is ridiculous that the net moves even before the ball gets to the rim.

Come on, EA. Fix that. You’ve had months to work on this. EA haven’t done their job.

  • Bmgoff11

video looks good can’t wait to try the demo out to make final decision

  • Anonymous

Yeah and while they are at it, tell them to clean them smudges on the backboard glass. I don’t like hand prints on my glass……. :P

By the length of your post, I guess you indeed do like to beat a dead horse….LOL

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ketewa-Edwards/54708425 Ketewa Edwards

I gotta stop watching these videos every video I watch makes this game look more and more discouraging seriously I’m tryna understand why this game looks so unnatural in terms of the player movements I just can’t get past that?

  • Anonymous

That is why all this hype 2k is doing doesnt phase me. You have to see the forest through the trees. We have all been here before. Why is this year or this game going to be any different than any other game that tries this shit.

Come on. Press Conferences? You know and I know that you will watch this, you will think its cool and and after doing it a few times you won’t give a shit about and you will just be pushing buttons to get through the shit.

How many hours are you going to spend creating sneakers. Probably more like seconds. This isnt MOD NATION RACERS where you can literally spend hours designing cars and characters.

Jordan Moments: Pretty cool but once you get through them which won’t take very long how often will you go back to it? You will do it so you can unlock rookie Jordan then you won’t do it anymore.

Rookie Jordan: Ok cool enough. Stick him on your team and play. Very good and meaningful usage. Thumbs up on that.

  • Tsunami

I’ll still wait for the demo before I COME TO A CONCLUSION WITHOUT PLAYING IT!

  • Samutuck

The NBA Elite 11 team have ethered and destroyed themselves!!!!!!

  • Rtran19

love the espn presentation even tho mike breen sounds alot different and unnatural.. just wish espn was on 2k

  • http://www.facebook.com/vicsib Victor Sibley

they should stop with the vids. this looks like live 99 with new announcers and espn integration. What was tayshun prince doing on that breakaway layup?

  • http://www.facebook.com/vicsib Victor Sibley

lol he was on the cover for ncaa march madness too. he gonna have win 3 ships in a row to overcome it.

  • Anonymous

I must say that the game looks pretty good but there’s still a bit of sliding though. I didn’t know the NBA was a part of the NHL. Mike Breen really ruins it with his play-by-play commentary. He doesn’t sound authentic at all. He does a much better job when he’s working NBA games on ESPN.

  • Anonymous

    Hahahahaha…..LMBO!!!!!

  • Jusurin81

WOW! What was that? Is that the best they can do? You cannot tell me that looks better than 2k11.Come on Pasta man really now. EA is saying this is better! WOW! 2k11 all the way man1!

  • Anonymous

I most certainly agree with you. Mike Breen sounds really ackward! You can tell that he’s a rookie to videogame commentary.

  • Anonymous

You make good points but they are also valid for every sports game out there too. Endorsements, Shoe creation and Jordan Moments can easily be one off affairs, similar to the Vision Cone and GameFlow.

I can’t be mad at a developer choosing to add depth to their game modes. I enjoyed Madden’s Superstar mode that first year but it hasn’t been touched since. A few extra details would’ve made it a killer app.

My only real issue with 2k last year was the crappy online performance which did get better as time went on. Besides that the gameplay was great, controls were deep and it was a satisfying experience. Sure there was some canimation but that should be toned down some this year. The gameplay is already solid just by porting last years over and if the additions they’ve promised come through then it’s a hit. All the other My Player and Jordan stuff is really icing on the cake if the online issues are resolved day one. (which they likely won’t be lol)

  • notre damer

check out 4:51, weird change of direction for durant

  • Dj

im sorry i cant read this. its too long, o and thats what she said XD

  • jusmegamer

T.I. will be back out of prison again before this game gets good. Seriously, they are trying there best to duplicate the 2KCam with this camera. This is what happens when copying goes bad. They atleast had the crowd reaction correct last year, that is even bad this year

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NYDEWBU3IQ3NXN5IT4NVTO4TNM AL Tracy

This is much much better than the videos from the event

A pretty decent game, I’d definitely try the demo

  • Philly

I wouldn’t say Elite looks bad, it just doesn’t look much better than the older games. And my biggest problem with Live/Elite has always been the fluidity of the moves. Like you’ve always been able to dribble well and drive; for all the talk EA has had about control, I really think they’re wasting time because to me the game has always had good control. My thing is the animations look off, especially when players jump, players dribble without doing any moves, the times where they’re hunched over worse than the guy from Notre Dame. At least last year the atmosphere was there. The graphics don’t make the game unplayable. The commentary, though needing some improvement, is fine. I just wish there was a way to get better and more animations in game. When they do that, to me they’ll really be taking a big step forward.

  • whitemamba

Mate you’re no fanboy, cos you tell it as you see it.
LOL just don’t start saying ‘EA SHITZ ALL OVA 2KS BIATCH ASS SUCKAZZZZ’
then I’ll hate on you ;)

  • whitemamba

But they’ve certainly been released a lot more info than Elite this year haven’t they?
Not only that, but I’m sick of disappointment every time more Elite footage is released.
First the off-screen footage is released and it’s crap
Then we get on Player vs. Player on-screen footage…still crap.
Then we get Player vs. AI on-screen….still crap
I’m getting tired of disappointment from EA, I’ll still try the demo but there’s certainly a reason I’ve pre-order 2K11 and not Elite 11.

  • whitemamba

Like MCGDos, I agree on some of your points but I think IF 2K can put in an improved product that plays well, has responsive online and has a deeper Association (I’m a big Association guy) as well as including some news toys to mess around with I’ll be happy.
I totally agree with the pointless speculation, but at the same time I personally look at Elite’s package and I’m not really feeling it:
EASBA: Not really a huge online gamer, bar Call of Duty so it doesn’t really factor in hugely for me personally
Real-Time Physics: This’ll be interesting, don’t like the early signs but will have to play myself to get a real feel.
Become Legendary mode: Obviously this’ll go head-to-head with MyPlayer and as a guy who’s picking up 2K11 for sure this sure, I’m hoping MyPlayer is solid. HOPING!

  • Reece2106

    You kept NBA 08 :|

  • Nphillyk

This game is TRASH. I have given up hope for EA and Elite this year. (Especially after Madden, now this)

  • Djcw22

ok. ea needs to take a close look at nba 2k11. because ea obviouly hasn’t gotten it through there head about how far behind they are. starting from the way the basket moves wen a shot goes in to the feel of controlling the players. IT SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2k has smooth game flow. and if u haven’t noticed the MY PLAYER MODE this year is HOTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 the onky good thing going for ea right now is madden. ea needs to get it together if the want to compete with 2k at all.

  • Djcw22

haha. i like the play on words. “there is no competition 2″ FABOLOUS lol

  • Nphillyk

For me, it wasn’t the fact that he attempted it. It was more the fact of how it was executed within the framework of what was happening at the time. He was leading the break with on one ahead of him and decided to do a canned Euro step. After which, he immediately morphed that into a fadeaway from the side of the rim. Never seen that happen in a real life basketball game or NBA 2K for that matter. smh
