NBA 2K11 Includes Obama Appearance

Earlier this year it was discovered that Madden 11 added a visit with President Barack Obama as part of its presentation package in Franchise mode after winning the Super Bowl. 2K Sports is also including Obama as part of the NBA championship celebration in Association mode.

Surprisingly EA Sports took some misguided heat for the decision to include him, even though traditionally Super Bowl winning teams teams meet the President at the White House. It seemed that some wanted to turn the inclusion of Obama into a political statement when in reality it is simply about offering a cool moment as a reward for winning it all…just as those teams in real life get to experience. I didn’t know it was in Madden already but I think it’s cool. Sports games are finding ways year after year to mirror what happens in real life and I as a fan of sports videogames think it’s great. Anything to add to authenticity is a great move going forward…

How do you figure that it’s not a political statement? I’m not saying that it’s a bad thing, but it’s quite obvious that they’re including Obama because they agree with his politics. If McCain was president right now, do you think you’d see him cropping up in Madden and 2K11? Answer that honestly.

Yes, it doesn’t matter who the president is when the championship game is won the winning team visits the white house and meets the president.

It’s not a huge difference to me, but as long as nothing gets excluded, the more detail they add the better. I’m also hoping this kind of depth reflects on the rest of the package, but 2K11 just sounds better and better…and as for the “borrowing” thing, who cares to be honest? I’d rather let the devs duke it out and ripping each other’s idea as well as add their own, and just play the best overall product. Why is it always 2K vs. EA?
I mean, are we going to say something like Call of Duty “borrowed” multiplayer gaming from Goldeneye? Please/

I am not an obama supporter. Do i think this is a cool feature YES BECAUSE ITS A PART OF THE NBA thanks for playing kids but its a fact they travel to the damn white house ever year so big deal its obama this time he will probably be in past year 8 because thats how the game works it does not support your delicate sensibilities but to entertain

I think it’s neat. Disappointed that people are trying to turn it into a political thing, but not really surprised. I don’t see the big deal personally. Similar to the included soundtrack, hairstyles, shoes, the length of shorts, and etc. it just connects the game to this period of history. If you’re simulating the 10-11 season it makes sense to include the guy that was President at the time. It’s not like it shows a big, “Congratulations from the most (awesome/terrible) President ever!” graphic or whatever, it’s just your usual meaningless ceremony. People need to chill out.

It would be a neat touch if it would randomly generate a different President every 4-8 years after ’12 though. It could have some % chance of re-electing Obama in ’12 and then it could just generate a random appearance from there. The game already knows how to create a bunch of anonymous rookies every year after all, so it’s not like it’d be hard to apply that to the President.

#2. It’s cool as fuck his likeness is used whether people like it or not. What’s the ultimate in sports? Winning the Ship, Going to the Whitehouse, then Going to Disney land, point blank it’s sports cliche’ and is long overdue.

Another thing long overdue? The Fucking Parade.
