NBA Live OTP night five recap
February 18, 2008 by pastapadre

It was an interesting night of OTP with the new roster update plus some different developments. That led into a really entertaining dunk contest at All-Star Saturday Night which I was glad that I didn’t pass up watching.
The first real problem participant was involved and it took two attempts at games to figure out who it was. He was calling timeout after timeout prompting technical fouls and was intentionally fouling on defense. That is why I’ve suggested there needs to be a way to boot someone from a game but this also showed that someone who is calling timeouts or intentionally fouling over and over should be booted automatically.
Game wise the Suns-Lakers matchup was relatively competitive but Andrew Bynum was an unstoppable force. At points the Suns felt helpless on defense even when the Lakers missed they were often there to grab the offensive board. The All-Star game matchup was a complete fiasco as the East routed the West in the most lopsided game in OTP history. 24 turnovers for the West in the game and those turnovers early dug a hole that was just too much to ever recover from.
Continue on to view the stats of the games and watch highlights from the Suns-Lakers video (trust me no one wants to watch the ASG one). Thanks to Im P Dub for putting this video together.
I lost track of who was controlling who. So if you leave a note in the comments I’ll add your name in.

So how many guys are you actually playing with on this? Is it just 2 on 2? I’m thinkin about picking this game up just for this mode, but want to make sure it’s pretty well populated online.
Pasta- any chance of getting an NHL OTP night set up? Maybe Mondays? Then you can recap? I think it would be a blast.

We’ve been getting at least 3 on 3 and usually more. This night was 4 on 4. Last week we even had 5 on 5. I think in terms of jumping into random games they’re not going to fill up, but by setting up a night/time for people to get together like we’ve been doing it works really well.
I think there is already an NHL OTP night coordinated by a few different community sites, Ill see if I can find out if thats still going on.
I just think Hockey through here would be cool. This is by far the best community of any I have found in regards to sports sites. You should defintely get one up and running- I have people who would definately be in. It’s just tough to find consistant games with people that don’t quit halfway through, or want to player lock (goalies included).
NHL has team play?

Its a time issue for me though to organize another event like that. I’ll see what I can find out though because the guys who had been running the NHL OTP are quality and the EA community manager even had been playing in it each week.

Yeah, the limit is 3 on 3 though.
That’s horrible that you guys had a problem participant. I don’t understand why people just try to irritate others. Alot of people online have a lot of growing up to do.
I was Shaq the first game, Iverson the second but was busy doing stuff the second game and not paying attention and ended up having to leave
It looks like someone on the Lakers taped that?

So, does anyone want to play a good half court offense and utilize the games features and animations or is it gong to continue to be a fast break dunk fest?
I agree with PDub. It would be nice to play a normal game where every play isnt just a pass downcourt for a dunk. Seems like thats how most games in up……just an up and down dunkfest because you cant see one half of the court to play enough D to slow it down. But its still fun to at least play with normal guys…..
Halfcourt would be awesome but the thing that sucks is that we cant set up and run a basic fundamental play in any half court offense which is the pick and roll. I thought we had some good passing on the Lakers side of the ball anyway but I hope next year we can at least use the B button to set picks.
I had grant hill and carmelo anthony.
That second game did really suck, I am definately up for next week.
We’ve had a few played that were slower paced. I think if we went with some of the lesser teams that would help. Less superstars increases the tendency to play as a team. I was also wondering about possibly doing some international matchups.

International teams would be fun surprisingly China is not that bad yeah Yao is obviously a beast but they got some shooters on that team. I wish I could play with you guys again but at school it is a terrible connection so when I get back home I hope you are still running these.
Yo. Let’s start a Global League of OTP. Stats and shizzums. Full Monty. Let it do.
What system do you guys play on? Looks like fun. Also does anybody know whats going on with the roster update for Live 08 on the Xbox 360. Thanks.
…. i was kobe lol
Starting this week do some international games and we keep the same teams and make like real teams and stay with them. Let’s get this going Pasta.

I would definately be in, but it might be difficult to get that many players plus to be able to have 10 play at a time.
