NFL Head Coach 09 trailer

EA Sports has released the first official trailer for NFL Head Coach 09. Some of the aspects of the game shown briefly include the play creator, free agent negotiation, coaching decisions, and actual on the field action.

The game looks really good at this point and it definitely sounds like they’re on top of the features and options that are necessary to make it work. Graphically it is such a drastic improvement over the previous Head Coach in every way including the on field action, sidelines, and menus. The screenshots have looked great but now seeing actual video confirms that and it certainly appears to at least rival (if not surpass) Madden graphically.

There will be several more videos for Head Coach 09 coming within the next few weeks. Continue on to view the first trailer or check it out in HD at the official Head Coach website in the media section.

Great looking trailer, like the end where you make the ‘defining’ choice. I wonder if you will be able to create yourself?

that’d be pretty neat if you could use something like they did with Tiger Woods Game Face to make yourself as a coach.

something i noticed that could be interesting if it turns out to be true is that the crowd seemed to be a lot more active than in previous madden games…could this mean that EA is finally making an effort at providing an accurate representation of the atmosphere of a real football game?

Beautiful…This game has to be slated to release relatively soon if we’re seeing all of these interviews, pictures, & vidoes; atleast I hope so anyway.

well they havent announced a date but have stated “fall” in interviews. Right now retailers are showing is as the first week of September, which would mean it would be out days before the start of the NFL season. So that seems to make sense.

I think why there are so many screens, videos, and so much info out already is because the oncoming rush of NCAA and Madden media, it would be a lot harder to promote properly with those two getting so much attention. I was told there will be several more videos for Head Coach out over the next few weeks.

    ^^^Interesting…

Just wanted to add one more thing, the O-line play towards the end of the video is a little alarming. Freeney beat the initial blocker, then the O-Linemen that was supposed to help just watched Freeney run by without trying to impede his progress.

Maybe that play is from an early build, maybe it was just a hiccup, but if that’s indicative of how the O-line is going to regularly play then I’m not going to be happy; at all. I was also hoping to see a more realistic pass protection pocket.

Looking forward to seeing more videos.

If I remember correctly in the first one they let you put yourself in with some pretty cool choices of clothing like the Tom Landry look or the Jack Del Rio.

Looking great. I seriously can’t wait for this game much longer. As a coach myself, I love the more technical aspects. Should be fun.

It seems like EA makes a point of showing glimpses of a Super Bowl that actually features the Super Bowl logo on the field and throughout the stadium. Maybe more care is finally being put into presentation.

Good eye. I didn’t catch that initially. For me, the protection (pocket) is one of the biggest problems in Madden 2008. But like you said, it’s early.

It’s never too early. Every issue should be pointed out now. It’s easy to assume something will be fixed, but let’s not forget having to wait for a significant Madden 08 patch.

I like the concept behind Head Coach, but for me, I’m looking for two key features: online play and the game day experience. Coaching a team during a game in Head Coach 09 and playing Madden 09 should be very different experiences.

I appreciate Head Coach’s “you make the call” menu and the “play it safe/go for the jugular” choice, but don’t you also make the call in Madden? I hope it really goes beyond that on game day, and I really hope there’s online play.

I am completely saddened that Madden 09 will look NO different graphically then this. I’m passing on both games altogetehr. in 09 they needed to do alot more and the gameplay looks EXACTLY the same as well, as the visuals minus a few sideline things. I’ve said it. i’m thorugh with next gen football

this looks awesome. can any of this footage lead to what madden 09 might look like?

I’m interested as to who EA believes to be the target market for this game.

As a poster mentioned above, while playing Madden or APF or whatever you already are responsible for calling the plays, deciding when to be aggressive, etc. You’re already responsible, if you’re playing franchise mode, with managing rosters, free agents, etc. It appears to run on the same Madden engine

So, as I understand it, the unique features would be play design and to not be involved in the “button mashing” of the actual play you’ve called - watching the CPU animation

I’ll be interested if the increased marketing results in significantly increased sales

I wish that they would make a baseball game similar to this with the use of classic managers (Earl Weaver, Sparky Anderson, Tommy Lasorda).

I missed the old text-based statistical simulations.

Eski… look up Out of the Park Baseball. I’m still in some active online leagues that use OOTP6.5 (although OOTP8 is out now). It’s kind of cool competing against other GMs. You can allso play alone. Here’s the website for one of my leagues:

If you are interested, let me know. There’s usually an opening or two every now and then.

But yeah.. I’d love to see these games get to the level of Head Coach.

I don’t remember back to the last one, but I really hope this comes out with post-draft rosters.

I believe you’ll have the option to start with the NFL Draft or start at the beginning of the upcoming season with the current (probably heading into the preseason) rosters.
