MLB 08: The Show roster update 3/31

March 31, 2008 by pastapadre

This week’s roster update for MLB 08: The Show contains 195 player movements with a handful of them being highlighted below. The Red Sox, A’s, Braves, and Nationals have played regular season games but the rest of the league starts up today so look for next week’s update to be even more significant.

LF Paul McAnulty moved from Padres Minors to Padres Bench.
3B Chase Headley moved from Padres Bench to Padres Minors.
RP Kip Wells moved from Rockies Starting to Rockies Relief.
3B Scott Rolen moved from Blue Jays Position to Blue Jays Minors.
LF Shannon Stewart moved from Blue Jays Bench to Blue Jays Position.
RP Justin Hampson moved from Padres Relief to Padres Minors.
RP Tim Stauffer moved from Padres Minors to Padres Relief.
C Johnny Estrada moved from Nationals bench to Nationals minors.
RF Jeff Baker moved from Rockies Minors to Rockies Bench.
DH Scott Podsednik moved from Rockies Bench to Rockies Position.
2B Marcus Giles moved from Rockies Position to Free Agent.
CP Brad Lidge moved from Phillies Closer to Phillies Minors.
2B Nick Punto moved from Twins Position to Twins Bench.
RP Greg Jones moved from Dodgers Minors to Dodgers Relief.
3B Tony Abreu moved from Dodgers Position to Dodgers Minors.

Adding to the impressiveness of the updates is that SCEA is actively seeking feedback for future ones. Whether it is errors in the rosters, batting stances, or even details as minuscule as the equipment the players use they’d like to hear about it. You can send in feedback in to sceamlbfeedback@gmail.com

How about them fixing the fatigue issue in Franchise Mode?

Is there anyway to keep using the roster updates in franchise mode to keep the rosters current, or once you start a franchise are they locked in?

As far as I know, once you start a franchise you’re stuck with the roster that you initially use. Kind of stupid on my opinion, but that’s how it is I guess. I’m waiting until next week’s update until I start a franchise, I’m happy enough with RTTS as of now.

I really wish they could update the player’s pictures in the game. Not only are they pictures from last year (from all that I’ve seen so far) but so many are outdated or missing. I don’t understand why big time rookies like Joba can’t have a picture in the game. This should be a feature that can be updated, especially if they’re thinking of editing player’s stances and equipment. This and the fact that players “ghost” through each other are the only real annoyances I have with the game. I hate seeing players run through each other, or constantly walk through the home-plate umpire after scoring. Other than these few things, I love the game and think RTTS is a very fun feature.

PASTA! OK, I know this has nothing to do with MLB 08
but there is a gameplay video of ncaa football 09 at http://www.youtube.com an search ncaa 09. The video will be called “first look at ncaa football 09″. OK?

Is 2k8 not going to get roster updates? - Reeso2991

Yep - they’ll be included in upcoming patch

2K’s updates take longer as, unlike Sony’s game, they have to forward update to Microsoft for approval, so my guess is they’ll always be a week or two behind

  7. pastapadre on March 31st, 2008 3:10 pm Quote

Well I’d expect a 2K roster update within the next week or two. They had stated that they were shooting for 5 or 6 roster updates (opening day, all-star break, trade deadline, 2nd trade deadline, end of season)

Hey, ha anyone noticed that the contracts are a little off??? I think they are contracts from last season? Does anyone have an opinion on this?

rookies have to appear in an official MLB game before they can be added.

See above. A player has to appear in a regular season game before he becomes part of the MLBPA and can appear in a roster update.

You realize that any updated rosters would conflict with your franchise rosters, don’t you? I mean really, is it so hard for everyone that asks to grasp that concept?

  15. agent k on March 31st, 2008 7:54 pm Quote

So I assume that MLB 08 does not use fake names as much as they do in MLB 2k8. Example, MLB 08 Fukudome is not in the game and in MLB 2k8 his name is Fortunato. I don’t have the game so I don’t know what they do in MLB 08.

  16. alex96 on April 1st, 2008 5:29 am Quote

i was watching a preview of MLB 08 and it included Kosuke Fukudome even though i beleive he was not a part of MLBPA. Whats up with that?

So much for opening day rosters for 2K sports. It’s also been what, three weeks, since we were promised an update “shortly”. This is getting ****ing ridiculous. Xbox 360 users can’t even play the only baseball game avaible to us on opening day because 2K put out such a piece of **** garbage game. The thing that makes me so mad is that every word that Ben Brinkman has said publically has been a lie for two straight years now. The game does not run smoothly at all Ben, which I’m sure you new about while you were being interviewed. It’s not the most realistic baseball game out there Ben, because baseball games do not include five to eight home runs PER GAME! Also, 2k, if you are a sane person than the word “shortly” does not mean three to five friggin weeks. I’d be more okay with the update taking a while if you had just come out and said THAT IT IS GOING TO TAKE A WHILE, and not lied to us, AGAIN! I hope 2K sports goes out of business so 360 users don’t have to put up with Brinkman and the company’s crap anymore…it’s absolutely absurd. Anyways keep us updated Pasta, appreciate the info.

Ha yeah its a big mess after their mods irresponsibly announced it was coming and then that it was out in the official forum. Now they’re blaming MS (sounds familiar considering they did the same with the demo lol). I hope for their sake its out before their big online weekend begins tomorrow. As to knowing when it’ll come for sure, I don’t think anyone can say.

Why does everyone insist on complaining about the “stupidity” of being locked in with the roster from the start of your franchise? YOUR ROSTERS ARE GOING TO ALL CHANGE AFTER ONE SEASON ANYWAY! That’s the POINT of franchise, is to make your own fantasy moves and run the team how YOU see fit, not “mirror every move in the real world.”

Could we have a place to post these updates as they come out? Seems as though tons of us cannot get online with this game (the freezing Belkin bug) and would like the new rosters. How do we go about updating the rosters then? Burn them to CD and run a file? Thanks for any help.
