Madden Mock Draft picks 9-11

We’ve now reached picks 9 through 11 in the Madden Mock Draft. Again we are in an area where team needs take precedence as ratings are going to be comparable between most of the players that can be considered. The Bengals, Saints, and Bills are up and all address areas of weakness with their picks. All three teams go defense here.

#9 Cincinnati Bengals - Glenn Dorsey - DT - LSU

Dorsey slips to #9 as rookie defensive tackles don’t show as much value as most other positions. They just don’t make much of an impact and in many cases will not be rated higher than a current mediocre DT. The two highest that went last year started with an 80 and 79. Look for Dorsey to come in with around an 82 but that probably won’t offer a big upgrade at least to begin the year.

Still the Bengals need to improve on the defensive line so Dorsey is a good value at pick nine. The other consideration would be at wide receiver but with DeSean Jackson off the board none of the others would’ve merited being taken this high.

#10 New Orleans Saints - Sedrick Ellis - DT - USC

Pretty much the same deal here with the Saints as with the Bengals. Ellis should start rated an 80-81. Corner was the secondary position that was looked at but once Dorsey and Ellis are gone the remaining DTs in the draft are going to be rated in the 70s. A corner with speed that would be effective in Madden can be found later in the draft.

#11 Buffalo Bills - Leodis McKelvin - CB - Troy

The Bills pass defense was terrible last year and McKelvin would come in and improve the unit right way. He would also be able to contribute in the return game. This is another team that could also use a wide receiver but ultimately taking a top corner right here would be more valuable.

Hey, I have been following you madden draft and am really enjoying it. What madden rating would you give the #11 pick Leodis Mckelvin?

yea these picks look good but i think malcom kelley will be a decent reciever in the pros because of his size pretty decent speed i wtched him in a couple games this year and he looked great in all those games

I can’t see how Glenn Dorsey doesn’t go in the top 3, Rams or Falcons will/should take him.

The Falcon should take him unless they are stupid. An pick MAtt Ryan whom I think is very overrated.

Pasta said it isn’t a mock draft, it’s a draft stating his predictions for player overalls in Madden.
    Ex. Dorsey around an 82

On 08 Dorsey was an 80 with power move and big hit weapon.

    He wasn’t on the game.

But if you import the draft class he is.

I don’t think McKelvin goes past New England but would think the Bills are going w/the Thomas kid from Michigan State. We already have Greer and McGee and just signed W.James to come in and start so a WR is taking here or a trade down…

Dang, you make some good points which makes it hard to go against your thinking! However, my previous thinking dictates my path, lol.

Bengals—I agree that theBengals need help with defense, run defense, but I think Dorsey will already be gone.

The Bengals pick 9th here but drop to the 15th pick in round 2, 14th in round 3, so I think So. Cal’s Sedrick Ellis will be the most added value player for the Bengals. He made a big hit last Wednesday at So. Cal’s Pro Day which will equate to at least 81 or 82, which most likely will be only a tick below Dorsey!

Saints—I really don’t think Dorsey or Ellis will be avail.

Corner help the Saints do need, so for my $$, CB Mike Jenkins with his speed and height would come in rated in the low 80s. And I would start him immediately for the Madden Saints.

Bills—I like your thinking on McKelvin.

However, I think Malcolm Kelly opposite Lee Evans is a bigger impact for the Bills. J.P. needs all the help he can get, and Kelly gives him a big target that is pretty darn fast, and would garner him an 80 or 81!

    Thanks,

    PTR

By the # 9 pick for the Bengals Glenn Dorsey wud be gone so the Bengals wud have to take the next best thing which is Sedrick Ellis.. The Saints will take Dominque Rogers-Cromartie and at 11 the Bills take either Malcolm Kelly or Limas Sweed!!

    Hey PP,

Big fan of the mix of news and commentary so far. Keep it coming.

Just curious, are you giving any consideration to the offenses and defenses that teams run? Dorsey seems like he’ll fall somewhere in the top 10, but isn’t Cincy’s 3-4 problematic for his 4-3 technique?

Just thinking out loud, love the work so far.

Thats an interesting point. I doubt it would make much difference though in the game since they’re dependent so much on specific ratings categories. If they were to have players who fit specific schemes play better in them than in others you could be right on that. But at this point I think you’d look to just get the highest rated DT regardless.

Dorsey Is Going to the falcons and Mckelvin gonna go to the patriots

Saints would be looking at lb, te, or ol if they can’t get a dt. We definitely took care of our corner needs in free agency.
