MLB 08: The Show roster update 4/14
April 14, 2008 by pastapadre

The weekly roster update (4/14) for MLB 08: The Show is now available by visiting the SportsConnect section of the game. This updates includes 121 player movements. It also should fix the minor issue caused by last week’s update which removed some player equipment. SCEA has highlighted some of the changes made below. If your PS3 doesn’t have access to online you can download the file from here and then transfer it over.
SP John Smoltz moved from Braves Minors to Braves Starting.
SP JoJo Reyes moved from Braves Starting to Braves Minors.
SP Josh Beckett moved from Red Sox Minors to Red Sox Starting.
CF Jim Edmonds moved from Padres Minors to Padres Position.
RF Jody Gerut moved from Padres Bench to Padres Minors.
LF Paul McAnulty moved from Padres Position to Padres Bench.
RP Bob Wickman moved from D’backs Minors to Free Agent.
C Michael Barrett moved from Padres Bench to Padres Minors.
LF Dmitri Young moved from Nationals Position to Nationals Minors.
RP Hideo Nomo moved from No Team to Royals Relief.
CF Tony Gwynn Jr moved from Brewers Position to Brewers Minors.
LF Ricky Ledee moved from Free Agent to No Team.

Hey Padre,
Any idea when 2k8 will actually have an update?

Don’t really have a set date to look for it from them. Best guess would be sometime this week, possibly next week.
IS FUKUDOME IN THIS ROSTER UPDATE

He was in the last one… He’s in my game, and I haven’t downloaded this update yet.
Fukudome is there, but no picture and the commnetators don’t say his name

Thanks Pasta, appreciate the info…This is getting ridiculous though. I mean first they say opening day, then they say the same day as the patch, they just keep lying to us. I’m going to be really upset if I wait all this time and there aren’t more player pictures in the update, which is why I’m waiting to start my franchise is the first place. Something just really bothers me about those generic faces. I really hope it’s this week. Anyways thanks again for keeping us up to date on the situation Pasta.
hey pasta,
The roster file you posted isn’t showing up on the ps3.
Any ideas?

I haven’t done it this way so I’m not sure the exact process. But did you extract from the zip file first or are you just trying to transfer over the zip file. I’d guess that you would want to take the extracted file over.
Thank for your input.
Ya, I tried both ways… it’s not showing up. I’ll try to figure something out.
Thanks

You should have a folder titled “PS3″. Inside of that folder, you should have a folder titled “SAVEDATA”. Inside that, you should have a folder titled “BCUSxxxx” or something along those lines. Make sure you have your folders structured that way. If you don’t have the folder setup EXACTLY as I typed, it won’t work.
Copy the folder “PS3″ (with all the other stuff inside) to your flash drive, pop in in the PS3 and start the system. Under “Game” choose “Saved Data Utility”. Scroll up until you see “USB Data Device” or whatever your flash drive is called by the PS3. Highlight the roster file, then hit triangle. Choose “Copy”. The save will then be copied to your HD. From there, load it up in the game.
I checked out the download, and it’s just the “BCUSxxxxxxx” roster file folder. So for anyone that’s confused, again: create a folder titled “PS3″ (all caps). Inside that, create a folder titled “SAVEDATA”. Inside that, drop the BCUS folder. Then follow what I said above.
is there a list of the full update available?
I’ve downloaded it multiple times, however, what I get is the zip file “April 14th roster update”. After I unzip that I only have the “BCUS…”. Basically, I don’t have the PS3 folder you mentioned.
Thank you for your help.

Uhh, they never said the roster would be out by Opening Day. They said a couple weeks after. If they would’ve released it on Opening Day, then they couldn’t have added some of the new guys who hadn’t batted in the MLB yet. A player has to bat atleast once in the MLB in order to be an official player.

Ben Brinkman said in a conference call back in February that roster updates would be provided “as needed” as well as opening day.
Any PSP updates this week?

I dont think they have it out…. yet.
Nice to see another Bruno… not too common in the West Coast.

Yea, you are wrong, but good try. Everyone knows they said the roster would be released on opening day…hence everyone is waiting for the “opening day roster”, but thanks for playing.
Hey, is Evan Longoria in this roster update?
Longoria isn’t in the update, but he should be. He was born in my town and we grew up together. He made his debut on saturday and smacked his first homer today versus the yanks.Don’t understand why hes not in this week! He’s the top rookie and future all-star!

If you check the 2K forums, no one was expecting the roster updates on opening day because of the reason I said above: new player names/pics couldn’t be added that early. So “everyone” was not expecting it.

Yes, they are

Well, I can’t speak for the people on the 2k forums since I don’t post there, but people here and many other places were expecting an opening day (or thereabout) roster, since Brinkman said as much. An update two days after opening day (when everyone had played) would have been terrific.
Jeffy777 you are making zero sense…People are waiting for the “opening day roster”. Why would it be called this if people weren’t expecting it on opening day? After all 2K did say that a roster would be out on opening day. Oh, and I do check the 2K forums. People have been outraged for three and a half weeks because the roster that we were TOLD, get it through your head, TOLD, to expect on opening day has not only not arrived but 2K hasn’t even released a statement regarding when to expect it. Stop defending such a terrible company that is handling this matter in a terrible way. They never, ever, said the “opening day roster” would be out a couple of weeks after opening day. If this was the case i don’t think people would still be asking, “Where is the opening day roster?” Sorry to keep repeating myself by saying “OPENING DAY ROSTER” but you just can’t seem to grasp the fact that 2K announced this before the game even came out. If you are still not getting this try asking yourself why you think people like me are so angry over this situation. Do you think it is because we don’t have a second roster, or could it be that we haven’t recieved a roster that we were promised? Hopefully this post will help you understand, but seeing your comments so far, I doubt it.
First of all, I’m not defending 2K. I have posted MANY complaints against them on their forum, mainly about the online lag.
I’ve been hanging out at 2K’s forums since Feb, and this is the first I’ve heard of this “Opening Day Roster” you speak of.
If you read the threads there, you’ll see over and over again that people are giving the same answer I posted above about why the roster didn’t come out on opening day….
I can give you tons of links to these threads if you want. In fact, I’ll start a new thread on the 2K forum with a collection of links for you
You are the first one I’ve heard of talking about this “opening day roster”, so this “everyone” you speak of seems to be more in your head, lol.
Ronnie (the 2K PR guy) said that the first roseter could be expected “a couple weeks” after opening day, not on opening day.
Again, I am not defending 2K. I think it would be great if they did weekly roster updates like Sony does, but unfortunately we can’t expect as much from 2K. Sad but true.
PS, I was kidding about the starting a new thread part, just in case you thought i was serious
And yes, I agree, 2K definitely should’ve given us a roster update by now (if not on “Opening Day”), so this whole discussion is really irrelevant by now.
Let’s just drop it
We can drop it, but just so you see it yourself, Google “Ben Brinkman conference call.” You can find myriad recaps of the call and even the call itself. There, Brinkman says there will be an opening day roster. It’s been reported here and numerous other places; unless 2k closed the threads, I’d be shocked if it was never discussed at those forums. However, I guess I’ll take your word for it.
Deal, we’ll drop it. This isn’t a site for pointless arguments anyways. I like Pasta, he runs a great site here, so we’ll drop the stupid thing. No hard feelings.
Sounds good guys, no hard feelings
I honestly had never heard of Brinkman’s promise about the opening day roster, so I was just going by what was said on the 2K forum…..so it wouldn’t surprise me if the threads telling the truth were deleted….wouldn’t be the first time.
So yeah, they should of definitely given us a roster update by now regardless. Sony on the other hand is doing a great job with it though.
can someone email me the PSP roster update?
im having too much luck.
