Gamestop Madden Monday: Options on Demand

April 28, 2008 by pastapadre

Continuing with their “Madden Mondays” blog feature for the third week in a row Gamestop has posted details on the picture-in-picture play call window. You can read the posting in full here.

To keep the game moving, the Options OnDemand PIP Play-call Window will streamline the flow of important information, like player and team stats, instant replay and even Madden Tips, which suggests a feature you haven’t used yet with a video tip explaining it. Think of it as the animated paper-clip thing from Microsoft Office, except it’s MADDEN! You’ll also be able to make substitutions right from the play-call screen or challenge a call with Coach Picture-in Picture.

The less time spent in a pause menu the better. It’ll be interesting to see it in action and how natural everything fits but it sounds like a positive addition. The overall presentation and game flow seem as though they have been heavily focused on for 09.

    Pasta,

I’ve never been one of the guys who closely follows the release of videogames up until recently. So my question is, when do the features for Madden typically release?

Looks like Madden is stepping up its game this year. Looking closely at the screenshot, it looks like progressive shadows have made it back in.

Well we know a few already thanks to the cover press release and follow-up interviews. Now in the coming months it’ll be more spread out when it comes to features or previews but they’ll be relatively consistent in that a long time won’t go between news. They want to make sure the game is always getting some sort of exposure. At least that is how it usually goes. This year they dumped the entire feature list for NCAA all at once but I doubt that’ll be done with Madden.

Hey, Pastapadre. Off topic, but what’s up with the OTP NBA playoff matchups? Am I missing them and you just aren’t announcing them on your site? Or are you too busy with the recent game coverage?

Yeah I just haven’t had any time lately to take part in something like that. I’m thinking about it for this Saturday but I’m not sure if it’ll work out or not. If I do I’ll have info about it on Thursday or Friday.

Pasta what about formation subs, like when you change your players who are on special teams and such.

Sounds Good. This game gets better and better every week.

  8. Rob on April 28th, 2008 12:43 pm Quote

well by the looks of those screen shots, it’s still the one play at a time deal

  9. Xtremedunkz on April 28th, 2008 12:57 pm Quote

Why do people complain about the playcall screen? If you are playing someone on the same console you can hold the button down on the play you want and keep moving around te plays and release the button and your original play will be called.

    Pasta and everyone else.

Don’t you see the major mistake in this picture?

It says 1st and 10 on PIT 30, Touchdown 30 yard run by W. Parker.

If he scored the TD why are they on the 30 yard line?

Any clarification on this picture Pasta

It’s giving you the option to view a replay. The original play was probably 1st down, and the Steelers ran it in from there.

Hey pasta, any word about having all alternates and using them online?

  16. SmashMan on April 28th, 2008 2:29 pm Quote

I actually made no sense there. They wouldn’t run it in from their own 30 yard line.

The actual scoreboard does say PAT, and has an updated score.

looks interesting enough. i hope it is as good as it sounds and not just more hype. is EA actually trying to make an excellent game here? maybe. it looks that way so far.

yeha it says 1st and 10 from the thirty cause thats where the play started and then it tells the result which was td run by parker all thirty yards

It says 1st & 10 on “Pit 30″ meaning that Willie Parker would’ve had to run for a 70yd TD. They haven’t reached the Steeler logo at the 50 yard line. You can see that the play started from their own 30.

I don’t know. I think they’re 3 different highlights of the drive to chose from
    1)1st & 10 on PIT 30
    2)Touchdown
3)30 yd run by Willie Parker

Usually it would say 30 yd TD run by Willie Parker.

I really hope they bring in the advanced play clock. You know… the feature where after you pick the play the clock runs down to 16 seconds or so…

it meant i could have realistic times in my games. I could actually play the real 15 minute games, and it made the stats look much more realistic in franchise mode.

Do any of you guys remember this, and what it was called?

  29. blackngoldfan on April 28th, 2008 6:15 pm Quote

Yeah, it was called “accelerated clock”

But is it pre-snap where you can go and alter the line-up in your roster mode or before you play the game and set your line-up up. I dont won’t starters on the kickoff team. I want to be able to set up my own starters for certain formations.

  31. Fort on April 28th, 2008 8:07 pm Quote

I’m loving the “coaches replay” for challenges. That’s one thing I’ve hated: not being able to view a replay before you challenge. Even one angle would be nice. Hopefully this works out well. I’m loving everything about this game so far.

I believe it’s both. You should have the option to set your formation subs before starting a game, and make on-the-fly formation subs during the game without going into the menus.

why did they move the in-game scoreboard to the top of the screen? that is going to bug me so much..

does anybody else not like that?

also looks like they changed the camera while passing.

They may have moved the scorboard because of the stat overlay graphics that are supposed to be added to the game. I would rather have a bar locked at top. Right now, it feels like I’m looking at a rear view mirror.

I liked the in game scoreboard from 06/07/08 this yers kinda looks cluttered, and it will bug me too with it at the top.

Oh and it shows, 1st and 10 on Pittsburgh 33 ; 30 yard rush by Willie Parker. It shows the sequence of the play, it was 1st and 10 on the Pitt 33 then he got a 30 yrd run. It doesn’t make sense because if he was on his own 33 and then ran for 30 wouldn’t it be on the Balitimore’s 55 yrd line, not a TD ?
