New Madden 09 trailer

May 6, 2008 by pastapadre

EA Sports has released a new short trailer for Madden 09. This one features Brett Favre and the Packers playing in the snow, mentions the over 85 new features and enhancements, and claims the 20th anniversary edition will redefine the franchise.

I suspect this was originally intended to be the first look at the game in action. This trailer differs from the debut video in that it is more of a traditional trailer whereas the first one showed off extensive gameplay along with enhancements to the presentation.

Continue on to view the trailer.

I’ll go with weak or wack. Trailer doesn’t do anything for me when I’ve already seen the other one with the actual gameplay footage.

All it does is highlight again how well EA can hype their games. All that stuff was special renders that, while they use the in-game engine, you won’t actually ever see in a game.

I did notice that Favre still holds the ball like an idiot in that clip as well.

Wow, that sounded just like Brett Favre, I coud actually tell it was him, usually you can’t.

Those one-handed grabs would be really cool if they only happened like once a game, but as we all know, people exploit the rocket catch to no end! There are is nobody that can honestly say that the snow effects don’t look dope.

@r00tabaga true the snow does look pretty sweet cant wait to play in that but also i agree that one handed catch happened way to often in 08 hopefully it happens less frequent in 09.

Did anyone else notice that th ball rotated the wrong way? It rotates counter-clockwise, from the throwers perspective.

The commercial feels dated for the simple reason that Brett Favre has retired. Watching him play already feels dated and certainly doesn’t make me think about the coming NFL season.

It’s strange to claim the game’s going to redefine the franchise while highlighting a player who’s out of the league. I think it would’ve been more fitting to watch Eli Manning throw a touchdown.

Overall, it’s meaningless hype and not very revealing since we’ve already seen gameplay footage. And innovation? The community has been begging EA to just make a playable game. It will take more to impress than snowflakes.

I’m still not sold. EA is gonna have to go a long way to getting my 60 bucks after last years next gen debacle. I’ll gamefly it.

The snow looks good in that trailer. It doesn’t look as good in the general gameplay.

The fact that players and the ball still have no actual impact on the snow on the ground is a big minus for me.

I also think the way the snow animates in the gameplay footage isn’t that good. It is about a 3 second loop of the same “snowflakes” over and over.

  13. Knight on May 6th, 2008 2:05 pm Quote

all the snow effects look good but ive seen that one handed catch about 10 times a game in 08.

The snow effects do look dope but as I mentioned before, if you’re going to improve an aspect of the game at least do it all the way. It’s cool that you can see footprints but how come when players get tackled you don’t see any snow flying in the air? Not trying to be petty but it’s a typical EA move take 1 step forward & 2 steps backwards.

I mean this trailer really does no justice for me….its really short with more writing clips then anything….that one handed catch……”yawning”…..speaks for itself…..and seriously I am really sick and tired of this whole HIGH DEF. gaming and all of this nonsense when every quarterback throws exactly the same….no one has there own style….wouldn’t it suck if every pitcher in MLB 2K8 had the same delivery….its just like do these producers not really think outside of the box when it comes to NEXT GEN. gaming if thats what they want to call it…..whats the point of holding that title when the qb’s are like twins all seperated at birth when it comes to throwing the football and movements they make…..lol….I’m not trying to get on EA for any little thing but I think its about time they step up there game since they are the only football franchise I want them to really take off and blow us away…….

The QB thing is a valid point and I am a very big supporter of this game, do they even have sidearm anymore? i know they had it last gen, but i never noticed it so far on 360.

Nope, I won’t be getting Madden 09 after the hunk of crap that 08 was last year.

Madden does need to make the true leap into Next-gen. Same old animations and AI from last gen with new graphics doesn’t cut it.

Well that sucked…If you notice, at the end they mentioned “the first sports game that adapts to you”, this referring to the “Madden IQ” feature in which the game supposedly adapts to your abilities. If that is the dominant feature this year (like the hit stick in 05 or lead blocking in 07) this is going to suck beyond recognition…Man I want to play in all madden and if the AI is kicking my ass because I play poorly I want it to stay that way and lose, but If I’m winning, I don’t want the AI to go “miami dolphins 72″ on me…

They need to fix the gameplay and player models first of all!!!

With alot of the comments I have been reading their is hope for this generation of commercially induced “sports” gamers to wake up and let EA know that we will no longer accept garbage dumb down football and kiddie arcade trash. Madden is the worst football franchise ever created and EA’s Madden Hype Machine is the most successful marketing ploy ever surmised by a company. It reels in the commercially induced “sports” gamer and casual mindless gamer with flash, labels and hype.

All Pro Football is the greatest FOOTBALL SIM to date but its passed up by these millions of weak minded gamers because these type of gamers care not for the quality of game they are playing but WHO they are playing with.

Don’t buy EA sports games for christ sake! rent it if you have to but to prevent the destruction of QUALITY sports gaming we must make Madden unsuccessful!!

we don’t buy Madden cuz of EA, we buy it cuz of the NFL. NFL2K6-9 woulda sold the exact same amount of copies as Madden has w/o question. People (like me) just love the NFL and “our” teams and each year we get hyped up and also a lil let down. I agree w/others that they should go all out w/snow and not half ass it w/footprints only…especially if it’s offline only :(

Thats a valid reason. It really sucked that they decided to not have franchise and other basic features. I think it lost them lots of sales, but gameplay is 10x more real than any other football game.

Madden Football is like driving a Mercedes Benz with no power windows, no CD player, no sunroof, and no leather….. so all you have is a name. every year we beg for features that should be in a game by now.

If you look at most of their products “which I have a few” they lack in some much detail.

I’m a huge golf fan, and the Tiger Woods series is just awful.

Don’t get me wrong, I like most of the games, I just tired of being disappointed

Let me just start by saying that this game looks to be leaps & bounds beyond Madden 08. I’m sure most of know by now what Madden use to be before Next Gen. The reason I say that is because I just don’t understand how “Next Gen” consoles have way more power than last gen & yet after 4 years the game overall still doesnt compare to the feeling I got playing it on PS2. I don’t want to hear that crap about “they had to rebuild the game from ground up”. When I played Madden from 2001 all the way until 2005, each year I was blown away & couldn’t stop playing. Now, ever since making the move to “Next Gen”, I’ll play the game for a couple weeks & already get tired of it. My point is yeah we were very impressed with the pretty graphics at 1st but afer a while you need more than that to keep us interested. It’s like marrying a beutiful but dumb girl. After the intial lust wears off you’ve gotta have something upstairs to keep me with you. That’s how I feel about Madden & I’m sure many others do to. I mean EA so far is trying to hook us on how pretty the snow looks this year. Yes the snow looks pretty & yes there are footprints but Madden had this already. How come we could see mud & snow splashing in weather games 7 years ago but you still haven’t added this for “Next Gen”? I know it seems like people are nitpicking but we just want EA to live up to they’re potential. It’s 2008 EA! No more excuses! Blow us away again!

Even if you bake a chicken in 20 different ovens, it’ll taste the same until you change the recipe. Hopefully EA has done that.

Nice analogy. I honesty can’t believe, well actually I can, but I’m blown away by the audacity of EA to actually state, “85 new features.” I mean that’s just embarrassing. We know 80 of them will be old; I find that truly embarrassing for them. Sadly, I’m sure they don’t even notice and are patting themselves on the back.

I thought the trailer was pretty good. Of course, it would have made a greater impact if there weren’t other videos released prior.

In regards to “20 years of innovation”, Madden has done some things but when compared to the leaps the 2K made on a yearly basis it doesn’t stack up.

The Genesis years were the best in terms of innovation.

I have high hopes this year. NCAA Football is looking sweet (the grass fields look awesome).

Yo dat was weak EA. last year I actually went back to playing my ps2 (i have a 360) and had mega fun with the game (partially laughing at the graphics and how annoying John Madden was). The thing that makes these games attractive to me is quality gameplay footage in the trailers, skip the other videos. Madden stopped a tradition by putting Farve (an inactive player) on the cover, but don’t make me break tradition and stop buying this game.
