EA extends offer deadline for Take Two

May 19, 2008 by pastapadre

The news that was alluded to for today regarding the EA offer for Take Two is that the deadline has been extended yet again. It now is set to expire on June 16th. The actual offer has not changed and still sits at $25.74, the same value (2 billion) as it has been since it was initially revealed back in February. Unfortunately there is no indication of movement one way or the other and the uncertainty will continue for the time being. As of close on Friday over 6.2 million shares had been tendered.

If you can combine ALL Pro and Madden / Nba 2k8 and Nba Live/ etcetera I think you would have some great sports games. Because each company is good at doing certain things. So if they would be willing to take for example Madden’s smoothness with All Pro’s animations they could create a gr8 football game.

So I think it would be good if EA bought 2K.

Maybe if we EA could get the rights to the MLB license, maybe they can create an MVP Baseball game with the MLB license, plus get another NCAA Baseball license and do a combination NCAA and MLB baseball game, with the idea of playing a college career, then maybe some type of draft, to get yourself in the Major Leagues. That would be great. Something for the NCAA Baseball and MLB Baseball fans !

I doubt they would combine an NCAA and MLB baseball game…I thought about this for College Hoops. If 2K could somehow combine College Hoops with NBA 2K, they’d have an unbelievable, unbeatable game on their hands. But I can’t imagine it’s feasible - although it would be damn sweet.

As for this whole thing. Does EA really need to keep offering to buy Take Two. Seriously, what if Take Two doesn’t want to be bought? They can keep ignoring offers ’til the cows come home…which seems like what they are setting up for.

And this idea that EA would automatically “combine” games or just adopt 2K games as their own is absurd. First they’d have to dismantle the engine’s for both games just to work on a new “combined engine”. The 10-month development process would not allow for it. And they won’t throw out traditional Madden for EA’s Madden 2K10…it’s not going to work that way. EA has had the ESPN license for awhile now and has barely used it…I can’t imagine they’d incorporate 2K’s fundamentals that quickly if at all, especially in the current-gen. Maybe in 2010, 2011 we’ll see something with the next-gen systems if this deal happens, though this deal is far from inevitable.

It’s not going to happen you can tell as they keep begging them.

First off you don’t offer 2 billion dollars to buy a company then shut it down. If and When EA buys TTI there will definitely be utilized for a profit. My guess is that Visual Concepts and Kush would be used to develop sports games for the newly named freestyle brand. That would mean games like 2k’s The Bigs would be a nice fit. VC could probably do something with the struggling NFL tour which is total garbage or maybe bring back SSX to next gen. I don’t think they would necessarily combine studios to make the mainstream titles. I think that would be counter productive and ruin the franchises.

EA isn’t going to shut down everything, but they would most certainly shut down 2K Sports, which is really the relevant point for us. There is zero chance that they would do anything beyond hire a few programmers off the old staff. All the 2K lineup would be history.

The best thing would be EA utilizing the developers/programmers to create some great sports games and actually bring their image back up. I’m all for buying the business but only if it’s being used to better the games

They won’t be able to utilize the programmers from Visual Concepts or Kush if those programmers decide to leave, which many of them already made it know that that’s what they will do if the takeover happens. There aren’t many seasoned, talented developers out there that will willingly work for EA. I see the Thomas brothers and others at VC leaving to form their own company.
